So the AFL fantasy league game Supercoach will open their 2011 season next week. I am wondering if there is any interest from you guys in forming a PALGN league?

All we need is 16 (or is it 17 this year) members who would like to participate. I'm happy to set up a leauge and help people join up etc. Hopefully we can get the numbers together, if you are keen just register your interest here and we will see how it goes.

All so, feel free to fill this thread with as much biased, uninformed, one-eyed, speculative AFL gossip, opinions, sledges and analysis as you like.

I'd be up for this. I've done it for the past two years and actually went okay last year. Won the league me and my friends had set up, I was pretty chuffed about that.....

Can't wait for the season to start. Looking for a 4-6 finish for the Blues this year.

GO Blues!

I'm in, I'll be joking it up so don't expect anything by way of solid performance, much like last year for me really.

Screw the crows, go the Saints, give us the premiership or we'll continue flooding the papers with scandals and leaving to NZ to chat with Pakistani's!

That being said, certainly hope the Crows do better than 2010, screwed me royally with the tipping they did. icon_razz.gif

Yes the crows are the reason i went so bad in supercoach last year, i had a heap in the side for the first game and slowly traded them during the year using up valuable trades. I had no trades going into the finals which is the killer. I'll do better this year, i'll follow my head not my heart!

I'm definitely down! Learned a lot in my first year, definitely not going to repeat the mistakes I made that resulted me in not playing 1 defender for about 5 rounds :'(

Of all time? So... like will they make the finals then? icon_lol.gif

Actually I would like to see Freo do well. Is Barlow back from his (leg) break?

They already did that. They got through to the 2nd round (semifinals) last year.

Anyway "of all time" would limit them to never doing any better, so kartanym better be hoping they win the grandfinal =)

Hey I know something about sports!

I think Barlow was a major part of a reason the dockers year was successful, averaging over 30 possessions a game, until the tragic break happened.

Yeah he was, you could probably claim he was their best player to that point. Still they went on to win a final with a young side, they have to be happy with the year they had.

I find it hard to see the Top 4 chaning again this year though, Geelong may lose a few more games, but to me Pies, Saints, Cats n Dogs are still the 4 best sides in the league.

Also I will do Supercoach, even though I'm shithouse at it.

That's EXACTLY what I mean icon_razz.gif

And Barlow is ready to go, from what I've heard. Hopefully he continues on where he left off.

He might be readyto go physically, but much like with guys coming back from knee recos it'll be interesting to see if he goes as hard at contests as he did or be a bit apprehensive at the strength of his legs. I mean all things being equal he runs a very real risk of ending up like Goose Maguire or Nathan Brown who lost any semblance of being premier players with their broken legs, so I wouldn't be placing undue pressure on the guy to blitz it from the get go.

In related news for any Brisbane fans, Xavier Clarke did his knee again at training as well so, a few injuries to speak of already.

Brown and Maguire both weren't good to go physically though, hence all their further problems and never finding that form again. Both hada lot of stress issues in their legs/feet cos they just couldn't handle the load required following the injuries.
With the rehab they would have done Barlow will know already if his leg can handle playing. Obviously you can't predict how it will hold up after 6 weeks, but he would know going into round 1 that he's fine to play.

Xavier Clarke had LARS surgery and could be back as soon as round 5, giving him one last shot at saving his career.

Alright then, it is almost time to kick this thing off. The league opens tomorrow, which means we can get a look at the player pricing and the new structure. The addition of a new team to the AFL has impacted on SUPERCOACH, for those who have played before, expect a few changes from previous years.

I think there are going to be a few interesting choices in team selection this year.

First off: Ablett. He used to be a must have player for every supercoach team, expensive but worth every cent. Now that he is no longer in the cattery can he still perform? Will he miss the protection of the Geelong midfield? Will he go the way of Judd, trying to support an entire team on a single set of shoulders? Or will he step up to the challenge?

Next is the often underappreciated position of Ruckmen. Many people forget to pick good rucks, spending money on ‘star’ players instead. Remember that you have to play 2 rucks every week, and they will get (near) a lot of ball. So who will you choose? Last year Sandilands scored 100+ consistently, outperforming many midfielders, and clearly claiming the top spot for ruckmen. Will he stay consistent? And if you don’t get him who will you pick?

Lastly, there are BYES this year. That’s right, not every team plays every week. As such we will all have to plan ahead. Don’t just stack your selection full of players from your favourite team. Diversify!

I could go on but will stop there icon_smile.gif
Look forward to seeing how everyone’s teams shape up.

I think i'll give Ablett a miss this year. He hurt me in a final last year when i had him as captain and he only scored around 70.
