You're not, and the loose hinge is MOST DEFINITELY not something that is normal. Of the two that I bought, the DSmith models top screen hinge is solid as a rock, with barely any flex when its open. The other 3DS I bought on launch day, from Kmart, has an approx. 5 mm flex to it. It doesn't feel solid, and once you see both side by side, you realise its a pretty dodgy manufacturing fault.
Id send it back personally.

PSP is outselling 3DS in Japan since its release!
Stunning!

Well to be fair, the DS launch had worse games. Pilotwings, Nintendogs and SSFIV isn't a BAD line up.
I'm sure it will pick up. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Still, it's Mario. I don't think Mr. and Mrs. Average consumer really care that the Dpad control was crap (and was it even that bad? I don't remember having too much trouble with it, unlike I do with Okamiden.)
EDIT: Played again just then. Still don't see the problem with the D-Pad controls. A joystick would be a bit nicer, but I don't find it majorly distracting or anything. Anyone else disagree? _________________

I agree, it didn't bother me much then, and it doesn't now. I reckon Mario 64 DS was a big seller for the console back then, it's certainly what I bought it for. Plus, the graphics were a good improvement over the original version:
6 million copies+ sold. _________________

Are there any 3DS handgrips that also double as an alternate power supply?

Just over 15 hours until the embargo is lifted on the 2011 Capcom Captivate event... Hoping to see Monster Hunter 3DS confirmed when I wake up tomorrow... _________________

I'd be wary about that. A bunch of gaffers seem to think that the long running "GAF -> Internet -> GAF" theory applies to this one, where a bunch of them gossiped about it in a podcast, and it spiralled out of control into "Monster Hunter at Captivate".
Maybe, who knows. It would be bloody weird for Capcom to announce a MH game at an American event though. You'd think they'd save it for Japan. _________________

Yes, as the rumour mill goes though it was scheduled to be announced in the aftermath of the Japanese quake and the event was scuttled. Having said that I readily heed your caution, but choose to cling to my slim hope anyway. XD
On a different note... I managed to get a streetpass hit yesterday! While driving! _________________

No Monster Hunter anything at Captivate, confirmed by Capcom Europe.
The rumour started on NeoGAF and snow balled from there. Tis but a pipedream, sadly, until Capcom announce otherwise. _________________

Some of you have talked about problems with your hardware, but ive noticed something slightly strange with mine lately that's a bit different.
Whenever i turn it on to play it ive noticed a vertical strip on the screen not move correctly (parralax barrier blinds or wuteva they're called). It seems to get stuck, until i literally just rub it with a finger and it goes away. Anyone seen/heard/read anything about this problem?

Could quite possibly be a mark being made by the border of the bottom screen on the top of your screen when you close it.
Also, the European release for Zelda:OoT is June 17th, so we may get it June 16th or June 25th. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."

Yeah, I've had the same - it's a smudge being left from where the top screen touched the edges of the bottom one. Awesome design there, really makes me confident that my hardware will last more than a couple of years... _________________

I discovered while playing DS games that you can turn on the wireless (if you turn it off/it's off when you start the game) by hitting the home menu, then flicking the switch (kinda like how you change the brightness in DS mode).
Don't think it was mentioned before.
EDIT: Nevermind I am completely mistaken, please ignore this post entirely. _________________ "If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you."
