What is this? Another Nintendo 3DS event. Wee!
When is it? 19th, this Wednesday, though likely 20th for us.
What time is it? 1:45am in Melbourne. Oh, the event? 3:20pm EU time, I think.
Where is it? The land of beautiful women, dope bars, and good beer; Amsterdam. There's also one in New York but who gives a rats.
Why should I give a crap? Read on.

So here's the thing; the 3DS was stealth announced by a PR release out of the blue, likely because of investors pushing and manufactorers wanting to talk and rar rar bla bla. Nintendo then went "WEYO!" and finally blew the doors wide open at E3. It was pretty mad. Then they did a big Japan show in September wrhich was pretty rad. There might have been a thread on it maybe or something. They also did a recent show in Japan but not a huuuge amount came out of it, mostly because it was targeted at getting average Japanese Joe hands on with the system.

ANYWAYS, this show is big super duper awesomeness x10 to the extreme, and that's because this is basically going to be the be-all-end-all 3DS event where we learn everything. This is where we're going to learn about;
  • Price and launch date (maybe not for AU, but definitely US/EU).
  • Launch line-ups.
  • New games.
  • Online networking system detailed (friend codes ahoy)
  • Virtual Console 3DS detailed
  • 3DS Ware detailed, and titles announced
  • 3D movies somewhat detailed
  • The 3DS OS detailed and everything else

Also its hosted by Jonathan Ross, who is a stupidly big Nintendo nerd.

As a writer, you should be paying attention to the Amsterdam one, but as a gamer you should be carefully watching the New York one. That's certainly what I'll be doing since I plan to import one from the U.S. EU details will be announced in Amsterdam, U.S will be announced in New York. To get the full story, you'll need to watch both.

Am I the only one who is consistently surprised by how much of a nerd Jonathon Ross is? I feel out of the loop.

*Is unfamiliar with that phrase, but still gets the gist*
I'll take that as a yes.

OK: good news everyone!

There are more games and other surprises to be announced at the event(s) on the 19th.

There are rumours suggesting that a Metroid game will be among them.

Whether this is a new Prime, Other M, Side Scroller, a new game altogether or just the old ones on VC isn't known yet, but there's only 2 days to go until it's all revealed.

For those interested, the US event will be held at 1:00am EDST tomorrow.

So under 6 hours to go until we find out the launch details!

Edit: US deets; $250 USD, March 27 release.

No real surprises in the US event, very short. But our european brothers are still going, and already they've confirmed a lot more. Ubisoft have 8 titles to be launched within the first few months, including Rayman, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.

Yeah that's a big plus already. And the ability to connect to gamers without the console physically open sounds kinda neat. I can imagine that coming in handy for Animal Crossing too.

EDIT: March 25th in Europe.

So it looks like it's getting a worldwide release at the end of March icon_smile.gif

The 27th won't be awesome because we won't have our US imports by then! Also the launch lineup is crap! Hope that changes. No mention of Puzzle Bobble 3DS for US or EU! What am I going to do now?

You can now preorder the 3DS on Amazon.com.

Cost is ~$275USD = ~$275AUD! That includes priority shipping (2-5 days).

Indeed, I just ordered mine from there. They're doing a really good deal on them. icon_smile.gif We'll have to wait a couple of days for them to turn up, but that's fine. I'm still eagerly waiting for a U.S launch title list though.

^ That was quick! Long wait though... waiting to see the local price, though it definitely won't be less than $275!

They haven't confirmed a true launch lineup yet, just what games will be released between the march-june window. I'm more than happy, though, if I get my hands on Street Fighter or Dead or Alive in the first batch.

Also, Nintendo Australia confirmed this morning the 3DS will be out in Australia and New Zealand in March 2011. Further details will be confirmed at a press event in Sydney early February.

EDIT: Just noticed, the DSi store software will work on 3DS, and it looks like they will be available in the e-store for new customers.

Just went and preordered my 3DS from there as well, because of your mention of the price.

Megaman Legends 3, here I come!
