I'm glad somebody else noticed Halo: Reach's dynamite soundtrack. It's funny, Halo lways sees me listening to its soundtracks long after I've stopped playing the game.
But yes; if I had to give a game the title of Bess of the Year, I would give it to Civilization 5. It's a perfect retread to the franchise, and my most played Steam game (behind the almighty Team Fortress 2, of course). _________________

Yeah, Reach definitely gets Soundtrack of the Year from me. Even beats its predecessors, and that's no small feat.
I'm saving up AC Brotherhood for a rainy day, but I expect awesomeness. I tried Mass Effect 2, but for some reason I had trouble with it. I found some of the gameplay a little clunky at times, and I wasn't a huge fan of all of the characters (Aussie accents not withstanding).

So are we doing user top 3 as well?
Just Casue 2 - becasue its simply fun. No dramatics, just an open world to play in.
Batlefield Bad Company 2 - see Cians comments
Red Dead should go here but I want to give props to Enslaved. For all its flaws it is the most "engaging" title I've played this year. If COD:BOPs was the game everyone brought but shouldn't (sorry anthony) this is the title that everyone should try that hasn't. Even the casual player - it holds your hand enough to perhaps be the transition title to deeper games.

Im glad Bad Company 2 & Amnesia: Dark Decent got mentioned.
Bad Company 2 for me was the best shooter all year, not only did it look and play well but the story did something I wish the CoD's and Medal of Honour's would do: not take themselves too seriously and have laugh.
Amnesia was something that has achieved something that no other game has nailed this generation (except maybe Dead Space): get horror right! _________________

It's great to see Yakuza 3 on the list, the game deserves every bit of praise it receives. _________________

Picking three fave games is a very personal thing, but I think Kim has it spot on. While other titles may have been a bigger surprise, Red Dead, God of War 3 and Mass Effect 2 seem to have the universal vote of critics and gamers alike.
I think a lot of people like to bag them a little merely because they were expected to be great so expectations were always harder to surpass. They had the hype and the budgets, so it's like they were expected to be great, whereas something like Amnesia or Sam and Max comes in without much fanfare. But when we look back in a few years time, it's these three games that will still be right up there influencing other games.
I also think the originality of Heavy Rain is also significant. Yes it had plot holes you could drive a semi through, but any game that is brave enough to have an ending where a kid dies is a pretty major step forward for the maturity of games development. The different ways people I know approached the same scenarios was amazing, and it took me back to discussing Deus Ex and the Fallout games in that you could play it in so many different ways.
Bring on 2011! _________________
