For me, a tie between Game Boy and SNES, the two consoles I grew up with and have many fond memories of. The N64 and Xbox 360 are worthy runners-up.

Well i don't really care because i don't really want gta anyway (more into cod and other games) |
...Isn't Call Of Duty also rated MA15+? Surely it's not suitable for someone of such a young age like yourself.
And Yeah, GBA+SNES are the winners for me. They BOTH Have Donkey Kong Country's _________________

I was thirteen up until today - I feel I can butt in.
I think an R18+ rating would be a fabulous idea. People my age, unless they're mildly mature, should not be playing Grand Theft Auto, or even Halo. I'm a bit of a hypocrite though - I play GTA on PSP, although not much. It has no affect on me, however, I understand that it isn't real. :B
On topic - my favourite console is definately the DS. It has a wide variety of games, and maybe twenty five absolutely stellar tites. well worth it, imo.

It had no effect on me. I played GTA when I was 12 and I clocked Mortal Combat as a 6 year old. Although if we do introduce the laws I see CoD going up to R18.

What?
But I saw it on the news!
This sociopathic 12 year old that was neglected by their mother and beaten by their father played GTA and then killed someone! _________________

I agree that if someone is mature enough to handle a game, the age rating doesn't matter all that much. I mean, I played Silent Hill 1 when I was 14 years old. Sure, "this game has disturbing and violent images", and my first playthrough was pretty damn creepy, but that's about it.
So yeah, if a person is mature-minded enough, then I don't see a problem with it. *shrug*

Seriously tough one.. i think best memories are from SNES.. Something about playing the Donkey Kong Country series over, and over, and over... and SMW.. but i also have extremely strong feelings for my N65.. Banjo Kazooie && Ocarina Of Time...
Also - i agree, if a person is mature minded enough, yehha for sure play these games at any age.. however it's those in the same age category that aren't quite as 'mature minded' that you would believe cause the issues.. and restricting all under 18 might be the best resolution, even though many people under 18 could definately deal with it... I do however believe the '17 year old me' from 5 years ago would definately beg to differ..

I'd hate to be a kid growing up with some of the parents these days, there's not one kid/cousin I know that's allowed to watch the simpsons, let alone play something like GTA.
80's/90's parents are the bomb, I'm glad my parents bought me GTA3 when I was 13 or so, and watch T2 repeatedly when I was 7. Kids are lucky enough to watch Teletubbies these days (just from who I know, probably different with others)
Probably completely off topic but I'm drunk so sue me.
On-topic, probably the PS1 for an 'at the time' favourite. Was just blown away when I first saw Destruction Derby playing in Myers with a $1000+ price tag. And all those buttons on the controller, what could they possibly all be used for??
Finally got one a few years later, and was properl introduced to '3 dimensional' gaming for the first time, epic games like ff7 and 8 and getting truly scared for the first time in a game playing Resident Evil, and realising just how violent games can get with the original Grand Teft Auto. Nothing can compare to those first ever moments playing a console.

That's just the beauty of the mind. For some people it appears to have no effects whatsoever (played Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 when I had a SNES, which would've been around 7-8 years old) but for some, it might be an influence but then from what I read, good parenting rather than preventing kids from being exposed to violence, drugs and sex in the media can have a more beneficial outcome in kids than wrapping them in cotton-wool in the long run. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Disagreed. Parents are perfect. Video games and pictures of boobies are evil.
I mean, my grandma knew this boy who never saw any sort of sexual content, no matter how mild it was (even saying the word sex was forbidden), and was not allowed to affiliate with people who talked about it. If he did mention, look at or hear anything sexual, he was punished.
And you know what, it did him no life-long harm. He was fine as an adult. After all of the intense counselling sessions he went to after flashing my grandma in an alleyway, of course. _________________

Like most things the answer is somewhere in the middle.
Kids need to know that there are things that are bad (ie. sexual abuse). But more importantly they need to know why these things are bad. If they just get the "don't do that cos it's bad, and you'll get punished" approach, then they will only ever think about the punishment. They never get to conceptualise or explain what the bad thing is, and why they feel an urge to do it.
It is better to have some level of exposure (and a guiding hand) than complete ignorance. _________________ Da Bessssss

gamecube yo.
rebel strike, tales of symphonia, windwaker, ikaruga, baiten kaitos, mario kart, killer 7, smash bros, resident evil 0,1,2,3,4, do i need to go on?
it was mostly forgotten about, but such a great little console, shame the wii turned into a mini-game console for the most part with enough bad gimmicks for the next 3 generations. _________________

I have to say i love the Nintendo 64.. there may have been a load of bad games on the system, but doesn't every console? with titles such as The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64, its a fantastic console. My favourite of all time. _________________

I liked Bubsy... they used to play it on some kids TV game show and it always looked like fun. I never actually played it myself though, once I actually got a SNES (about 5 years later) _________________
