So I've noticed lately that the games taking up most of my time aren't the 100 dollar AAA titles, they're the 5-10 dollar downloadable games or ones that are just completly free or kept affloat by optional micro transactions.
so I thought I'd start a thread for it.
Currently I'm playing.
Wakfu: Free open beta
The open Beta for the Wakfu MMO. it's pretty neato. Basically an isometric turn based tactical MMO, featuring a dynamic player controlled world and eco system. None of the plants or herbs or whatever you harvest respawn naturally, instead you have a choice of either chopping down a tree for wood, or harvesting it for clippings that you can plant to grow new trees. This even goes down to monster spawning in some zones. It's all pretty neato. There are only 6 of the future 14 playable classes available at the moment though. And I'm guessing once it goes live it will have a subscription fee.
You can get it here for free though
Spiral Knights: Micro Transactions
It's a cool little dungeon crawler, like the crystal chronicals games on the DS, (Not so much the cube one) Basically in groups of four you play throug dungeons, get loot, craft items to get deeper into the dungeons, get more loot, etc etc. It's pretty addictive. The micro transactions are pretty unobnoxious too, it's nothing like getting uber loot or shit, instead it works out that you have 100 energy. Doing things in the game uses up energy (Going down another level costs 10 energy for example) once you run out you can't go any further untill it replenishes (Takes a day) or you can buy more energy for real cash. So bascially it just limits how much you can play. Still a great little game
So anyone else getting hooked on free/cheap games? _________________

Nice thread Benz.
I totally agree that the best games are often the cheapies! I got both the humble bundles and have put a suprising amount of hours into playing them. The most time has gone to Revenge of The Titans, which is so simple but I love it. What is it with really hard games that makes them so fun! On top of that there is also Braid, Machinium and world of goo and several others which i have barely looked at. _________________ Da Bessssss

If you want a deep, free MMO, there's heaps out there.
I played Kingdom of Loathing for years...
