I've read a lot of gamers say they suck at 'x' type game but still enjoy them etc. Racing games are usually the first one mentioned but thought I'd see if anyone had a certain type of game they are not good at but still own and play.
My genre would definitely be fighting games. I suck at them but love them. I have (for PS3) Soul Calibur, Tekken, SSF4 and KOF12.
Can handle most of the moves but it's the combo's and depth I get lost in. Hearing the experts talk about how they play confirms how much I suck
Still, doesn't make me enjoy them any less!

I'm terrible at DotA/HoN but still (used to) play it a lot (until all my friends switched to HoN and it came out of beta). I don't play in pubs but it's a fun thing to do with friends, which is why I enjoy it. _________________

Fighting games here too. It's my second favorite game genre after RPGs but I can't play them properly. I just can't get my head around memorizing all the combos and inputting the commands quick enough. It doesn't help that I can never stick to the one character either.

RTS style games (Command & Conquer, Warcraft etc).
I'm able to do the single player campaigns, put me against others in a LAN and my lacking skills appears really quickly. Of course i've learned over time to not just rush a person's base within 30 seconds of the match starting , but still my tactics usually end with me failing.
Many driving games - i stay "on road", but depending on the game... i don't brake/accelerate at proper times (although i usually can master it eventually once i learn the tracks + learn the timing of the car that i am driving). My main gripe is i can never get the perfect racing line.
NFL games (Madden in particular), will never master it in full, i prefer running ahead of passing.
Fighting games: I'm ok, but my skill level is only just passed that of a new person playing. Depending on the game (Street Fighter, MK and Tekken i can hold my own), games like Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter.... i only know basic moves and can be beaten fairly quickly.
Fifa - good against the cpu ai (i rarely play world class though), when i take my game plan and execute it against human players..... i don't do as well. I can contain them most of the time, sometimes my "play" becomes too cute and i get scored against (sometimes this happens within a minute or so of the match starting..... ).

I love RPGs, and end up buying quite a few of them (especially of the handheld variety)... But damned if I ever have the time, or, more importantly, the patience to play them!
It's notthat I'm unable to play them on a skill basis, I just suck at the time element _________________

I am really bad at fighting games! Like, really really bad. Like, playing on 'very easy' and still doing badly.. But I do kind of enjoy them and they are actually fun with a friend *le gasp!* when normally I am much more inclined to play singleplayer. It is just a shame so few of my friends play games and when I do play with someone else I get ownedd... I actually played Virtual Fighter 4 with my girlfriend who doesnt even play games, and she beat me. >_< I just hit random buttons to fight and I am not fast enough to press the block button in time.
I also really like puzzle games and point and click adventure games but absolutely awful at them I need a walkthrough the whole way through especially with adventure games, which ruins most of the fun, but I like to play them for their stories, humor and charm, and other nice things.
In general I am not great at any games really mostly from a lack of caring enough to get better since I am not 'hardcore'. But I have become quite good at shooters particularly since playing MW2 online. =) _________________

RTS. I'm pretty poor at micro managing, but some of my favourite storylines stem from the RTS genre so I try to stick with it but often get quite frustrated.

I've never played through all of warcraft 3 without godmode on.
That's one of my favorite games but I'm just so bad at RTS games it's embarrassing.
I also really enjoy MMO's but hate the whole way end games usually play out to turn it into a job. I want to run an end game instance once maybe twice to have fun and then not grind it for fucking ever. _________________

You know what?
Everything competitive. Never enjoyed competitive gaming, nor competitive sports or anything for that matter.
Gaming is a solo experience for me. The only competitive I enjoy is Demons Souls PVP, anonymous and not really part of the core game.
I suck at it, cause I dont really do it much. I usually check out the Mplayer on latest FPS, fighter etc then get bored after a week or so.
Co-op all the way for this escapist gamer. _________________

Funny you should say that, I recall specifically at the time Generals came out I was a bit late in nabbing the copy so hadn't done the Chinese campaign yet, me and a few mates decided to LAN it, all chose random and I got stuck with China, about 5-10 minutes in I had figured out how to mine the place and to plant some propaganda towers before I got scud stormed... twice.
Of course, I then got them back in Dawn of War as soon as the Eldar got the Fire Dragon so I could sneak them into their bases and cheese it big time, but yeah C&C is my weak point horribly in RTS gaming. Hell, I'm struggling to do the GDI campaign on C&C 3 it's that much of a bitch to me.
Other than that, I suck at fighters, am average at shooters and mmo games about the only one I'm semi decent with is Savage only because I used to go to Geelong to LAN and they always wanted to do that at like 3-4am when only the hardcore were up, and yeah, practice from newb to not so newb. Otherwise, I'm decidedly mediocre and deteriorating unless I'm wired on sugar.

And im the exact opposite, i really suck at single player games, whether it be FPS's or racers, anything really.
i suck so bad.
but as soon as im playing others im not too bad, not great but not too bad. maybe its because i pay more attention when others are involved, dont know.
but i just found it funny that you said about competitive and me being the exact opposite.
but as for a particular game type, maybe RTS, dont buy many but i have a few, and i have to cheat, thats why i dont buy many. _________________

Sports games and most racers, primarily because I take no interest in them whatsoever, though some arcadey sport games and racers I quite like and get pretty decent at.
Every other game I have some kind of uncanny ability to just 'adapt' to them very quickly. This is especially apparent in FPS. Must be my background in competitive gaming or something. _________________

Resident Evil when it had the still cameras. I couldn't aim at all. enjoyed playing them though, even though I always gave up pretty early.

Fighting games for me also. I suck majorly at them yet I buy loads of them.
I got rather good at Tekken 3, Killer Instinct and DBZBT3 but other than that, I'm practically hopeless at fighting games. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.
