Really was not expecting this: It's getting freaking slaughtered by the critics. 20% approval on Rotten Tomatoes so far...

This isn't the imagination of a young girl; it's the fantasy of a 14-year-old boy steeped in kung fu, Call of Duty and online porn.

The movie is like an arrested adolescent's Google search run amok.

Like a spastic wet dream

Like watching someone channel-surf through five video game boss battles at the same time.

A series of extravagant computer-generated adventure scenarios linked by grim mental hospital plot

If the goal was sensory overload and audience stupefaction, he has succeeded indeed.

it's like watching an unofficial sequel to 'Showgirls' with some 'Kill Bill' and 'Battle LA' thrown into the mix.

Sounds awesome to me. My wife probably won't be so appreciative if I take her to go see it though =P

I was hoping that they'd be able to appreciate the awesomeness (like with Scott Pilgrim), but I guess it was too much for them this time. icon_razz.gif

One movie was edgar wright who averages like 85-90 % on Rotten Tomatoes, full of indie darlings and based on a trendy hipster comic.

One movie is Zack Snyder who averages like 50-60 %. Full of no bodies and based on nothing except "Holy shit that looks cool"

This movie didn't have a chance in hell with the critics. It never did.

That said, it's gunna be fucking awesome.

Just watched the preview.

Looks amazing.

I think we should start up a website where we critic the critics. That'll show 'em to not be too flash.

Emily Browning isn't a nobody. icon_razz.gif I can see what you're getting at though, they are two different beasts indeed.

Lemony Snickets, Blue Healers and Ghost Ship?

Yes... yes she is.

A lot of people saw that movie (it was a success, too). icon_razz.gif That was back in 2004, and I still remembered her when Sucker Punch came around. Ah well, she hasn't been in anything too major since then, but it's not like Blue Heelers wasn't a major Aussie show.

Anyway, enough about that. Movie looks great, me and my bro will be seeing it together as soon as it's out here. icon_smile.gif

Wow...

I knew the plot wouldn't be good but wow, that was terrible to say the least. icon_sad.gif

Crank
Just plain bad.

Visuals: 10+

Story: 2

The action you see in the trailers is most if not all of the action in the movie in 5-10 minute intervals.

Made me want to leave about half way though.

3D would of worked well for this movie.

Just got back from it, this movie was dumb as shit.

Awesome though. Zack Snyder can't tell a good movie to save his life but his movies are constantly fucking gorgeous.

Basically it's a serise of loosely connected music videos.

Yeah, the music video bit is so very apt. Seriously, the first... half an hour of this film? There's more slow-mo than normal speed, more lyrical content than dialog (also 300% more good music utterly butchered than damned near any other films. Made me so very angry), and more extreme close-ups on pointless shit than you'll see in your standard movie marathon (although that's pretty much his style anyway).

I spent the first part of the film loathing it, the middle section going 'buhhhh... derp this is awesome, girlies and video-game-trope-porn'. and then the end just going 'WHAT?! WHAT??!?'.

If I'd paid that much to watch just the action sequences, as some kind of nVidia tech demo or so, I'd have felt much better about the whole affair.

Sat through to the end of the credits (also, credit sequence - WTF?!) just to see whether there would be a massive trollface picture on screen - 'cause that's what I was expecting.

As others have said, the action is just stupid and awesome, but everything else is just... stupid, insipid, heavy-handed slow-wank about nothing worth a damn.
