After reading the latest PS Blog post about PlayStation Plus, I have no interest in it what so ever.
Since their hook is that you need to keep subscribing to keep your "freebies", they can jog on.
They should of called this a game taste service since that's all it really is. _________________

Nothing there interests me at all, unfortunately for Sony.
I see Playstation Plus as being something I'll keep an eye on, and if they eventually decide to include anything worthwhile (other than titles many of us likely have owned for over a year now) then I'll re-assess my stance on it all.
As it is though, if I bought the yearly subscription now, the first 3 months will be going down the gurgler, as there's no appeal for me whatsoever. _________________

Well, let me be the first to say I just signed up for Plus. For me, the first two months are great, the only thing I already have is Zen Pinball. I signed up for the year's subscription (works out to be $5.80 a month), the free LittleBigPlanet is a great bonus. I'll let you guys know how big the download is.
Edit: Amazingly, it's only 2GB! Not bad at all. _________________

I don't think it's a bad deal long term if you are willing to commit. But for me, I'm a very fussy gamer so I don't think getting games that I'm not interested is of any value.
It's still not clear about Minis and PS1 games for the PSP transfer. If you unsubscribe and have transfered a game to your PSP, can you still play it?
I take it also that all games in this model have to be authenticated online before you can play it. No net, no play. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Yes, they do have to be authenticated the first time. That's not a big deal though, why would you get Plus if you had no access to the net? _________________

i'm kinda interested in plus, in theory, but the main thing holding me back is i already own a lot of the free content this month, and then it struck me that the thing that i was mostly interested in after that was getting access to all the PSN games as demos, and then i realised how retarded it is that i'd be paying to play demos.
Why the hell can't PSN do the same as XBLA and include obligatory demo "modes"?
i reckon they'd get much more sell through if they did.
i guess that's a rant for another time...
i really don't like the idea of the DRM being tied to your subscription either, but i'll still keep an eye on how the content changes over time. it's not enticing enough to buy this month, but who knows what the future brings? _________________

It makes sense, it's only a good deal if you don't already have most of the content. For some, this will be the case, for others it won't. As for the DRM, Sony didn't have to do it that way, but you can see why they did. Plus is more of a loan than a true giveaway of content - allowing customers unrestricted access to the downloaded content would mean less incentive for people to keep subscribing. I'm not sure if I'll still want to play the stuff I'm downloading now in a year's time anyway. It can be a bit of a trap at times though, if they offer something you really want during the last month of your subscription, you'll be tempted to sign up again so you can keep using it. Still, if you've been happy with their service until that point, there's no real reason not to.
I look forward to seeing what Sony have in store for us. inFamous is an interesting move next month. _________________

So you can play your downloaded LBP while signed out of PSN? I think that's what LeonJ was getting at _________________

Aww, look how cute he is with his little plus.
You're the second person on my list to get it, the first is also from PALGN, john_solids. _________________

I biggest problem I have with this service is you have to make a lifetime commitment. If you want to get out you are throwing away all the content you have collected. But then again, I guess you could just sign up for 3 months or whatever.
But I'm kind of tempted to get it for just LBP free bee alone.
I still don't understand the full-trail thing. I mean, for us Australias download quota is a premium, so I'm more inclined just to download the demo anyway. But I guess not all games have demos do they. I mean, what's the point of an inFamous trial when there is a demo available?
Re: Internet connection, I just curious to see if say your net is down, can you play a game downloaded from the plus service still. I have a feeling it need need to authenticate each time you try and play it.
Although a free PS1 game a month is probably worth it.....since I just got a PSP Go....oh dear I'm talking myself into this thing. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Well I got suckered into it. Despite not need anything they offered for the first 2 months. Pretty much it was the huge amount of +'s on my psn list put me over the edge. Also my friend bought LBP off me for $20 which has made it worthwhile. Its also cool because of the mini's and psone titles, stuff I probably wouldn't buy but is really cool to have for free. Will reevaluate in 1 year's time, I just hope they get on top of adding some advantages for new titles to + members, especially Monkey Island 2 and Dead Nation.
EDIT: Oh and the automatic download thing seems really good, I'm with optus so they offer a huge amount of bandwidth off peak, so I can set up all my dl's then instead of staying up till midnight or starting it before uni. _________________

yeh im another one to get suckered into it, more for the automatic downloads though, only problem i have is that its downloaded heavy rain and modnation racers demos for me, i already own one of them and the other i didnt need a demo for it, but i suppose i doesnt read your mind.
but i would prefer if you could turn of downloading demos, i really just want it to download game updates and system updates for me. _________________

In that case, yes, you can play LBP offline. It's not connected to the Plus service anyway, it's just a freebie. You don't lose access to it if you stop subscribing. Interestingly, Wipeout HD doesn't appear to have an expiry date on it. The Minis and PS1 game, however, certainly do have them. Could Wipeout be another freebie like LBP? In any case, all of the Plus content works offline, the Minis and PS1 game don't even need to be authenticated before you play.
In answer to the question of what would happen if you transferred a game to your PSP and then stopped subscribing - the file would simply expire on the marked date just as it would on a PS3. _________________

Very good point. I can already see it happening - i'll really enjoy a game want its DLC, it not be + discounted so i'll buy it anyway at full price. Then 3/6 months later it'll be free on +.
I'd rather keep my $70 and but what i want when i want and if its free 6months later so be it.

WAY BETTER IDEA! as with my above post then you can download all the stuff went you want, without uming and arrghing.
The way it is now you'll have 3 or 4 good months where you want most of the stuff and the others will be useless. For those 3 or 4 months if you bought all the stuff it still wouldn't add up to $70 bucks.

No I'm just trying to get Peace Walker and some games for my new PSP. My credit card has expired since I last bought something on the PSN. I have 3 separate credit cards with different banks, and not one works. I've tried using the website, Media Go and the PS3. All fail.
GOD this always happens when I use the PS3 for more then 5 minutes. It's just a technical nightmare to do anything! RAGE! Spent the last 20 minutes trying to find a support number to call with this problem (yes I know it wouldn't be open now but I want to find the number). That site is a piece of crap. I type in search 'call support'. I get back 'how to call somebody else on your PS3'. Why do I need to google 'Sony Support'?
Lets not mention the wonderful firmware download I always get slapped with when I want to use my PS3. I love it, when I decide to turn the stupid thing on and do something, I always get the 20 minute wait for the new firmware install. Like FUUUUUUUUU.
Now I'm just angry. F it, I'm going to play SFIV. _________________ Shin J Leon.
