And there's your answer. Nintendo will never consider Australia as being worth their time and effort - like it or not, there are bigger fish to fry. It's a shame, but there ya go.

The N64 launch advertising campaign (including console adertising and game advertising) was (and as far as i know, still is) the single largest advertising campaign ever witnessed in Australia at the time, yet this is merely decent?
and i agree about PS2's launch titles... i bought mine the week they came out in Australia, yet it took me about 6 months to buy a game... i think the first game i bought was Zone of the Enders...

It's sad to see that Nintendo neglects this market so low. We may be small, but dammit we matter as much as anyone else. A sale is a sale and the bigger the market, the more games and the bigger their profits would be. PS2 and Xbox show that you can get decent numbers of consoles out there, but Nintendo just doesn't see that maybe?
If things do get worse, it's going to be a sad day when we don't see Nintendo's products on the shelves.

In Nintendo's eyes, you don't matter, because the market is too small. There's very little that can be done to overcome this.

It's unfortunate about Nintendo's presence in this country but as was said in the article they just don't care. I'm sure that even if Nintendo do neglect this country completely, diehard Nintendo fans or "hardcore" gamers will import the consoles anyway and continue enjoying Nintendo's awesome games like the Metroid series. (selected just for GT2.  )
I know I'll always support them and importing isn't that expensive anyway when you think about it so yeah.

theres an idea for a business...
locate yourself well enough and you should do alright importing whatever the next nintendo console is...
i wouldn't expect them to fully pull out though, the gameboy series is doing alright isn't it?
even though i not so keen on Nintendo recently, it would be a shame not to have the third option around...

No, I was referring to the GCN launch. The N64 launch was pretty fantastic, marketing wise. Problem is with the GCN launch, they didn't sustain it long enough.

I fully expect the PSP to absolutely slaughter the GBA and the DS in a very short amount of time, barring any criminal shortcomings of the PSP hardware. Just the Sony name is enough to do it in in my eyes.

It really is disappointing to see Nintendo to neglect Australia, and mostly all PAL territories for that matter. Even though Australia is only a small slice of what the buying market is it still doesn’t help to completely neglect it completely.
This is what set Microsoft and Nintendo apart completely. Even though Microsoft was losing in the console war in Japan, and still are, but they didn’t decide to neglect that market completely. The advertisement and so forth in Japan for the console is a lot better than the situation with Nintendo and Australia.
A couple months ago there was an article saying that the president of Nintendo of Japan was planning to come down to Australia mainly to see what the current situation of the market is, however I doubt even that will save the deep hole Nintendo have drug themselves in Australia already.
I’ll most likely import their next console to prevent any long awaited A++ titles happening once again, and as this will continue with more and more people the Nintendo market in Australia will die off completely.
