Howdy

I am in need of a new system and I have $1550 to spend. Could you guys help me with some tips on whether or not you think this setup will do alright for most of the current games that are out or coming out.

This is what I have in mind:

2 T.B WD SATA Hard Drives x 2
CoolerMaster HAF 932 Case
Corsair HX750 PSU
ASUS P7P55D-E Pro Motherboard
Intel 1156pin Core i5-750 CPU
LiteOn SATA DVD Drive
G.Skill ECO 4GB PC3-12800 (1600MHz) DDR3 RAM
Asus ATI 5770 1GB Video Card

---------

I realise the video card is a bit weak and plan to update it sometime down the line its just my budget will not allow for it right now. I have read its a good card for what it does.

I am also unsure about the PSU. I am not sure if I should get the Corsair TX850 or go with the HX750. What is the difference? I would at some stage like to have either multiple GPU's or a single top end card, so I am unsure on how big a supply I need. Added to that I may add a couple more hard drives down the track as well. What size PSU do you all recommend?

Also should I go with the i5 650 instead of the 750?

Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

All tips and advice is most welcome icon_smile.gif

If it's for gaming drop to the 650 and get a 5850. CPU isn't all that for most games, you'd benefit more from a better graphics card in the short term, and can upgrade to a newer socket 1156 cpu later down the line.

If it's for rendering then stick with the 750.

Also, multiple graphics cards most often pale in comparison to a single, stronger card and lower your PSU wattage requirement.

750W PSU is more than adequate for most setup, in fact, most users don't even need to go over 500W or give it like at most 700W for dual GPU.

Just something to think, have you thought of getting a small sized SSD to put the OS, Games and apps on it? It will improve loading time (if you are using Win 7 to make use of the TRIM technology)

I am planning to install the OS on a 320gig WD SATA drive, along with Office and all that other stuff.

Or you could forgot about Intel all together and go for an AMD Phenom II X4 955BE. It will only set you back $185. Gaming wise you won't see any difference between a 955 and an i7 930. For everything else the 955 is on par with the i5 750 but considerably less in price.

If you're looking from a purely gaming perspective, the Phenom II will be fine for what you need. Anything else though such as transcoding, rendering, etc, the i5/i7 setups are FAR superior.

Also I agree with A13x's advice; if you're going gaming, ditch the i5-750 and go for a 650 (or just grab the Phenom II) so you can grab a Radeon 5850 over the 5770. The 5770 is nice but it's limited; the 5850 on the other hand is extremely good value for its performance and is very overclockable.

I have a HIS 5770 and the reason it is so popular is because it that it is quite solid for the price/performance. Cheap as in under 200 and solid for the resolutions and framesrates. I only play games at 1650 by 1050 and it can handle most of them fine but it struggles a lot more at higher resolutions like at 1080. Not badly but I have somewhat of a different expectations for PC standards.

Got a new system just last Saturday and it was so hard to find a 5770 for under $200 because they all sold out (MSY sold out, ARC sold out of under $200 ones), I ended up getting Sapphire VaporX for $200.55 at ARC because I'm desperate for a new comp.

The way I think is GPU gets upgraded more often than CPU, which is usually true in my experience.

How much more superior? I was pretty set on the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T last night (I'm also building a new rig in about 3 weeks), the price was right and the performance is on the money.

However, for example, how would this compare to an intel quad core (its what I'm upgrading from)? Are we seeing speed differences between an i7 and a phenom II x6 in the area of minutes? Or merely seconds?
