We upgraded our Telstra plan. We have a 100GB quota now & we pay little for it. That said, I'm on WiFi in my room.
Also, why the hell do they have a server at TUGGERAH? They do all the major cities down south, and TUGGERAH????? _________________

None. Speedtest.net is just broken. _________________

I don't think I'm that close, and it wouldn't matter anyway since I'm on Optus cable.
Someone explained on this thread why my speed test is apparently so high, but I didn't understand it at the time and now I can't remember it.
To put it bluntly, my speeds are nowhere near this, especially considering that the new fibre optic network isn't even supposed to fire above 100mbps.
My real-world speeds are float around 16mbps, depending on the time of day, internet traffic, etc. _________________ My Photos

Sometimes I feel like punching people who complain about anything more than 1.5Mbs. _________________

edit: just tried this site: http://broadbandguide.com.au/broadband-speed-test and it reckons...
Download Speed: 5005kbps (625.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 399kbps (49.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

It's because Optus cache the speedtest.net website. So when you run the test, instead of the data being pulled from the website itself, it's being pulled off a much closer Optus server.
TPG used to have the same problem until they fixed it. Either way I tend to avoid Optus like the plague.
EDIT: For the hell of it, mine:

This is the fastest it has been for some time, yet my downloads (through firefox and whatnot) are going slow like a snail.... damn it lol.
** Seems that like myself, lots of other Telstra customers are experiencing troubles browsing the internet when it comes to sites hosted outside of Australia. My speeds browsing .com.au sites is essentially normal, yet browse any other site (whether it's reading large text walkthroughs via gamefaqs OR various sites with lots of picture content on them) it takes a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time for the page to load.

My internet has been so slow for the past month. Downloading is at about 1/3 of what it should be, but browsing is like dial up, maybe even slower. I would ring Internode, but as I'm sick I can't talk very well, I might try and get my mum to ring them up.
And even worse is the ping. I used to get as low as 8ms in CS:S, now I get 100+ :\

Not too bad (though the upload speed could be improved). Never realised Optus increased my internet speed. I was always under the impression that it was running at 8 MB/s _________________

I doubt this is good, seeing as how we're too far from the exchange to get any decent Broadband speed:

I'm not down with all the terms, but I get a better ping and result when it ran the test on the Sydney server, which is 900km away. WTF? _________________

According to my last test, I'm apparently slower than 98% of Australia. ****in' a. _________________
