I love my PS3, but I imagine this is a sentiment being felt across the globe right now. What a monumental stuff-up. Sony had done such a great job to swing momentum towards their way and this happens?
Ouch. |
talk about over dramatisation. |
Take a look around the interweb and look at what the public are saying. Find me anyone who's the slightest bit happy? People's consoles are being rendered next to useless at the moment. That matters, regardless of how dramatic (or not) you think it is.
Im not going to get into it though. There's no reason. _________________

The only thing that matters to me is that a software update can fix this. Let that be so. I don't want to send my unit to Sony, and worse yet don't want to not get my 60gb BC one back...
Oh yeah and fix it before FF13 kthx _________________

i dont think its anything worse then corrupted data, so surely it will be a software update, and probably a format of the hdd, i have formatted mine and it seems to be fine so far.
and my other ps3 is working fine still.
so fingers crossed its nothing more then a stuff up with the 40/60/fat ps3 software and not so much the hardware. _________________

All the date better be able to be fixed. 10 gigs of Rock Band songs would take 16 hours to download, plus I can't get some of it back .

Mine fine, thankfully. I've got a 120GB slim, so yeah, slims are fine (as everyone had said before).
I was wondering why only 3 people out of my 70+ friends list were online. :S _________________

Oh deary me.
When I first tried to sign in I thought it was an ordinary 'Richard Branson's version' of "I can't let you play online, Ken". But it was just Sony fucking us all over.
This is a big, big problem.
Oh dear.
Oh and if I don't get the Warhawk packs and my trophies, I will fly to Japan and personally throw a brick through one of the office windows, or something to that extent.
You've been warned. _________________

It's not really that big of a problem, it's basically the same as server maintenance, you just can't use DLC. And the Warhawk packs aren't that big...

Mine is down as well. This better be fixed by the time my MLB the Show shows up. I'm getting a good laugh out of this thread at least...
How are they going to get a fix to us if we can't log into PSN?

http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Model_Differences
All models above CECHK are fine any below and including will get the error according to Whirlpool.
Apparently it is a date error. The system is trying to make the date be 29/2/2010 which doesn't exist and is creating big problems. Some people think that by tomorrow when it goes to the 1/3/2010 it will run fine and will just need a quick patch to make sure it doesn't do it in 2014.

Eh. It didnt do it in 2007 or 8.
Also, I find this quite unlikely because the PS3 clock resets to 10:21am 01.01.2000 every time you turn it off now, as if the bios battery has decided to die, probably from its own software glitch.
Besides, if it could fix itself by having the right date, simply changing the date should fix it and does not. With the battery seemingly not working and the clock resetting every time the system is shut down, it seems more likely this problem might not even be fixable via a download... the battery might have to be replaced.
And if sent to Sony, the sheer number of consoles needing to be repaired would negate the possibility of getting your own unit back, you'd almost certainly get back a refurbished console to speed up the process... goodbye 60gb BC, hello POS random. _________________

But Ken was saying it was a huge problem when all he cared about were some small Warhawk packs. I have heaps of DLC that would take ages to download, plus I can't get all of it back. If Sony say they can fix the DLC problem, then I couldn't care less. When I posted that I thought it was unfixable and had to be re-downloaded.

I'm guessing its in regard to leap years. It didn't happen in 07 or 09 because they are odd and they would have remembered to program that in and 08 was a leap year. This is the first time its had an even year that isn't a leap year.

You speak truth jesuslol, and a good point, but that doesn't change the fact that the PS3s clock no longer remembers the time once turned off, as if its battery has shat itself. I don't see how getting to midnight tonight will fix that, when it won't know its midnight because its perpetually 10:21am.
I have heard of some BIOS batteries having a clock set at factory that cannot be altered, and that the clock you can change is an offset (i.e. it looks at the time it thinks it is, and applies the offset based on what you set the time at, and that offset is what you see) but I am not sure about that. If that's the case you could be correct. That would be nice ! _________________

Apparently there is an internal battery that has its own calender and the problem is that its not matching up with the software's calender causing the problem. You can physically remove this battery by opening up your PS3 taking it out and put it back in after a couple of minutes to fix this whole problem but this voids your warranty and is a lot of work.
