Anyone planning on or interested in going to this?
http://www.infotech.monash.edu.au/promotion/games-boot-camp/
It's essentially presentations, discussions, group activities and demonstrations relating to video games (of course they'll also be video game playing too). It's on the Semester 1 holidays. Open to High School students Year 9 and above.
I'm interested but most of my friends just scoffed at me when I showed them it and what it was (probably because they read 'Video Game Boot Camp' first.... ~ it's not actually a camp). That means I've got no one to go with at the moment.

I went to the one run by Microsoft (and MrAndyPuppy). The one I went to was probably more the game development on xna but it was a lot of fun. I went alone and everyone was friendly and interesting.
Not to mention of one of the Microsoft guy bet his 360 and lost it in a match of Fifa, or a female won the CoD game and she never played that game before. Fun times .
I'm pretty sure you will have a good time _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

So what's everyone up to today?
Personally, I'm sitting here basking in my musk while killing AI in ARMA II.
With the imminent release of Crysis 2 this week, I'm planning to switch out my Tyrannosaurus Rex (GTX295) for a Tyrannosaurus GTX (GTX590) which is due for release later in the week.
Unfortunately this will probably mean getting a new PSU to compliment it, as I'm currently using 2x molex connector to 8 pin PCI-E power adaptor and I've got a feeling the 590 will probably require 2x 8 pin PCI-E connectors.
The other concern is size, as the 295 was pretty long at ~27cm, the 590 is estimated to be around 29cm, which could be problematic given that it would be sitting between 2 hard drives.
Though ghosting 3 of my hard drives onto a 2tb would drop me back to just 2 3.5" HDDs, and save quite a bit of room. And the Level 10 GT case I plan on upgrading to later on will give me a bunch more space than the Antec 900.
As an aside, I cleaned out the case yesterday and got rid of dust, but I also decided it would be a good time to retire my optical drives, as all games and software tend to be available digitally now these days. Anyone else doing this yet?
Can't think of the last time I actually needed to use a disc for anything. _________________

Hey, quick question for everyone, does anyone have any idea what there is to do in Lismore? I moved here with my partner and failed to take into account that I was moving away from all of my hobbies ^.^; _________________

The following thread is one of the weirdest/most interesting threads I've enocountered on my time on the interwebs. Was brought to my attention by another forum.
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=126693233
Poster of interest is 'blacktegu'. Proper stuff starts on page 3 but it's funnier if you read the whole thing.
Warning: long thread (16 pages) and also has some unsavoury content (to quite a low level though and it's pretty cryptic)
You'll have to read some of the headings etc backwards to fully understand. Enjoy and get ready to have your mind blown. _________________

^That thread is quite funny, until you get to the end.... and find out that you've just read 16 pages of people ripping on a guy who has a mental problem. _________________ Da Bessssss

Following on, having heard that the GTX590 is set to have Core clocks of 612MHz per core, I'm staring at a crossroad, wondering which way I want to go, I could take the high road, the low road, who knows.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3f5p69gud8U/TYYyDBvrt6I/AAAAAAAAANs/KUnGVKOiAko/s400/ASUS+GTX+590.PNG
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-qEe2goaXcJ0/TYYyT0mjjAI/AAAAAAAAANw/GdrAR6znLkE/s640/hoja+specs+gtx+590.JPG
Above we see the leaked specs for the GTX590
Price is expected to sit around $900-1000
Below, we see the GTX570 O/C edition, which I could buy 2 of and run in SLI for about $800.
Now the key factor is higher core clock at 780MHz per core, and higher memory clock (significantly).
Without any benchmarks to really look at for the 590 as yet, and going by numbers alone, it looks to me that 2x 570s would trounce the single card solution, and cost $200 less.
Now looking at graphs of the performance of SLI 570s, It does look to be quite a performance.
Then there's camp red, where crossfire 6970s would give good performance a majority of the time too, but one thing I really want to be able to make use of is Stereo 3d when hooked up to the TV, and I already own a 3D Vision kit, so that would go to waste there.
590 is due to be announced/benched in 2-4 days
Interesting times indeed
EDIT: I guess the concerning thing is the amount of video memory, as I'm running a 2560x1600 setup, the more the better, and that's where the 570 is lacking. _________________

How is 1256MB of RAM lacking?
I got a 570 the other week, and it's pretty great. I get around 50fps in the densely populated parts of Stormwind now. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

Well it's actually 1280Mb per card, so 2560Mb Total, whereas 2 6970s would be 4096Mb, or GTX590 3072Mb.
At this resolution it makes a difference. _________________

i can see how, but it seems like an obscene amount of RAM for a graphics card.
Then again, I can remember thinking, "wow, I remember when computers didn't even have 32MB of RAM, and now I have that much on my Matrox G400MAX!".
Loved that card. _________________ Twitter | XBL: Tamaaya | PSN: stormo | GameCentre/Steam: StorminNorman

I have a 6990 which holds 4096mb of GDDR5 memory. Thing is blazing fast and the memory definitely helps. I literally lose no frames at all when pumping very high amounts of AA, and this is at 5040x1050.
Memory definitely matters when at extreme resolutions. It'll be interesting to see how the GTX 590 will compete against the HD6990 as well. Needs to be both affordable and high performance. _________________

Today I went piano shopping!!
I felt so posh when someone asked me:
"What did you do today?"
"I went piano shopping. " I replied casually
--
I spent 13 hours of my sunday playing Assassins Creed Brotherhood. Anyone who knows me will know I don't do that. I'm very casual with the ammount of time I spend playing games, but oh my god that game is too good. I know its just Assassin's Creed 2 but more, with a few tweaks, but I felt the same way about AC2 so I am not complaining
--
On a side note I just made scotch eggs and they are foodgasmic. ♥ _________________
