Ah, that's what I was after. Good. Gooooood. |
It's definitely not as good as what you think it is. They basically ask two questions after the opening mission about your previous playthrough, and the first question doesn't even let you answer the question, just 'how did you feel about...' in regards to which soldier you sacrificed (kaidan or Ashley). The second question basically just tests that your memory is up to speed and asks you which other human joined the spectres, and they correct you if you don't answer it properly anyway. Then it jumps straight into the story.
Also, there's about three or four very simple bullet points regarding the major decisions in the first playthrough as you load up your previous character. It feels as though Bioware definitely banked on most people completely forgetting about their previous playthrough, as so far (2hrs play) they haven't brought much up about the past at all. But from review clips this aspect is definitely going to pick up as you interact with NPC's as you progress through the game. Definitely disappointed with the very little information thats (initially, I hope it changes) given to you about your past playthrough, there should be paragprahs upon paragraphs of information at your disposal about which characters were killed. I'm going to have to wiki the story details of the first game so I'm up to speed, especially as the sequel looks and plays so much smoother that I can't see myself finishing off the second playthrough of the original Mass Erect that I started last week.
People who have skipped the first game will definitely be overwhelmed with all the character name drops and other little nods to the first game.

I was going to hold off on getting this game... still haven't finished the first... I was going to wait, but that TRU is so close... so close... and I should have just enough time after work to pick up a copy... see if I can talk myself out of it before work ends...

The game hasn't been released yet. It seems that although a couple of stores have broken street date, everyone is sticking to it and it probably won't be available until tomorrow.
edit: Oh the TRU that broke the steet date is close to you I wish there was a store in QLD who was selling it because maybe then the stores near me could be convinced.

You run into a lot of smaller characters from ME1 throughout ME2 (which is a bit silly in a universe of trillions of ppl, but there u go)
Thats why im glad i played through ME1 last week so i can actually remember who everyone is and what choice I made. _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

Consensus seems to be that the decisions in ME dont make a big difference, its more referencing and the like. People who've never played the original will still get a lot out of ME2, but those who have will get a deeper game thanks to understanding references, name drops, etc.
Same goes for the crossover content. Some stuff will be just referenced in a news report or overhear someone speaking about it. Nothing remotely impactful, but a nod to the events of the original and how things played out.
Which is a good thing in my opinion.
Here's a comparison between the old Normandy and the new one;

Same here. Except I wasn't home because I was at school paying my fee's and now I'm at my girlfriends house having dinner.
Hopefully my mum picked it up for me. _________________

I'm not sure if I like the new Normandy being huge. The first Normandy had a Serenity-esque charm to it on the inside. Despite being cold and sterile and having creepy music playing all the time, it felt cosy. I suppose I'll have to see what it's like to walk around inside the second one.

Toys R Us Aspley in QLD is selling ME2. They only had 360 copies though D': I then hatched an elaborate scheme where I called my EB, told them. They called the Toys R Us who said it was a mistake and they were recalling it off the shelves. I then told the dude at EB if they don't sell it to me, I will just go to TRU(bluff). He then said ok but I was the only person allowed to p[urcahse it today. His boss told him that the couldn't even take it himself.
So at 4:55, I left with a copy of Mass Effect 2 on PC

Yep, and TRU is usually the last place I buy games, so I didn't even think to look there. By the time I got there, however, it was obvious they had taken them off the shelf again - there was a very conspicuous gap with a ME2 price tag. They couldn't possibly have sold out, so I asked the girl, who instantly replied "It's out tomorrow."
Yeah, I know, but... oh well. I might get it tomorrow, but I do still want to finish the first game (quite close to the end) and really prefer to wait until after Bioshock 2.

Hmm, I guess a question I never got around to finding an answer to was which play through do the decisions come from? I played my Vanguard's first play through as a Paragon but I'm in the middle of a Renegade play through. Does it it take it from the first complete play through? _________________

You ever get that weird feeling in your legs when you're walking where it feels like your legs are moving too quickly and uncontrollably and you're constantly on the edge of tripping over?
I'm pretty sure it will be like that all the way home. _________________

I've played a few hours of this since I got back home from a 21st tonight.
It is epic stuff. I'm kinda glad I didn't replay ME1 just before this because it is (as expected) much like the sequel, so I didn't overload myself with too much RPG/Shooter action (if that is even possible).
So far it is amazing, but one element I'm finding kinda strange is the ammo count for weapons. I may be wrong as I haven't played ME1 in more than a year, but I thought ammo wasn't measured in the first game, yet in this one they introduced this function. _________________

Yes, if you take a quick glance back over the thread, you'll see much talk of overheating vs ammo. _________________
