I bought it on Steam in the hope that I might get it earlier because I could preload it and start playing the second it unlocks, but it unlocks a full day later than the game comes out in stores. And there's no sign of a preload on Australian Steam, although of course it's available on the US store (and theirs unlocks two days earlier, too). And now I don't get to look at the awesome box art of the disc version. And Steam says the game's soundtrack comes with the Digital Collector's Edition, but they're lying: you get 12 tracks with Steam, the full OST is 27 tracks. I really screwed myself over here. |
Agreed, pretty disgusted with how we are being treated as customers who paid for the same thing as the Americans and we get screwed over in so many ways for totally arbitrary reasons. _________________

I think my Steam transactions will be limited to their crazy sales from now on. The DD no-refund policy is a whole lot more palatable when you're paying less than $5 for a game. What's the point of digital distribution if the game only becomes available after the physical version does? Americans have been able to preload the game for a couple of days now, which means I've paid for the game, and the data that constitutes the game is sitting right there, but I can't get at it until some arbitrary time when I am deemed worthy.
I suppose I shouldn't take it personally, but I really like Mass Effect 2's box art and now I've been tricked into depriving myself of it. I suppose the best I can hope for is that there'll be a high res PNG of that artwork in the 'Digital Art Book' that comes with the Steam version of the game. Judging by the way everything else is going, though, it'll probably just be a handful of 800x600 JPGs _________________

I read somewhere that preloading will start on Tuesday for countries that are not the US and Canada. So you will have it ready to play the moment it unlocks, even if it unlocks a day later. How about all the people who got it through steam remember how they payed $30-$40 less than everyone you gets it in store. You can't win everything all the time...

There are collector's edition items there as well as the multiple pre-order items(terminus armor, Inferno armor, black hole gun) and then there is the blood dragon armor(From Dragon Age).
edit: The other three pieces of equipment are from a Dr Pepper promotion in the US where you were meant to enter codes to get them.

You can use Xbox.com to 'purchase' them and send them to your download queue. Then, when you get a HDD, you can download them from the queue.

They are small. They total just over 100MB so you could just chuck it on the Memory Card until you get a HD.

Oh damn...all of them are dead except for the first one. Get a "This item is not available for purchase from Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web." notice when I try to add them.

Its a mix of the pre-order bonuses, the Dr Pepper bonuses, and DLC you'll get for free anyway. Lucky for those who got in early. I'll grab stuff like the Inferno Armor and Dr Pepper bonuses when the innevitable PC hacks come along. _________________

Probably a good idea to link to videos rather than embed them, just incase people get spoiled. _________________

Damn ... I always miss out on stuff like this ...
Even if I had my Xbox here, I wouldn't be able to have downloaded it ...
This is part of the reason why I don't like DLC ... I just hate the fact that you can miss it and never have the chance to get it again, and sometimes it feels as if you're not getting a complete game. It frustrates me to know that, even if it's a piece of armour or something trivial, you may never get the chance to download it again.
Oh well ... Not much that can be done about it. _________________

Yeah its pretty annoying eh.......them companies so stingy.....they should just keep it up until the game releases, its good advertising material, and gives fans even more excitement.

The stuff will be up, it will just be impossible to access unless you've got the code.
I really hate this sort of thing. I'm okay with DLC in theory, and I can turn the other cheek for pre-order bonuses and/or Collectors Edition bonuses, but its when the consumer is screwed out of actually getting everything without buying multiple copies of the game or other products that the line needs to be drawn.
Worst case scenario to get everything someone should have to pre-order a collectors edition at a specific retail chain. It sucks, but at least it gives potential for you to get 'everything'. BioWare/EA are horrible and handling this. Its literally impossible to get 'everything' unless you pre-order multiple copies of the game and buy a ton of Dr Pepper.
Come on. _________________

Couple of new videos up on the BioWare website.
First off it's Mordin's introduction video. He was one of the character kept 'secret' in my op, but his reveal is here so I'll have him display.
Second is Zaeed Massani's video. He's an ex-Alliance soldier turned bounty hunter, and the 11th party member, available as DLC on launch day.
