Does anyone know of a good, FREE, DVD Player Software on the net? This is because, first you can’t play DVDs through Windows Media Player because you have to buy some stupid codec icon_sad.gif and second every website that I have gone to, claiming they have free software is just bogus!

If you have DVD Hardware then surely you would have got some player software bundled with it?

Windows Media Player 9 Player DVDs fine for me. Maybe the codec come with my computer (it's Dell).

On another note does anyone know where you can get software to backup movie dvds onto DVD+R discs (obviously spanning several discs).

z e m a j these are some dvd progs I know of, dont know if they are free though:

Also there are many DVD ripping progs that cut out everything except the movie, which then means it can fit on 1 dvd (i rather have 1 disc for the movie than having it split in 2 and have the special features)

powerdvd
dvdcopyone
supperDVD Ripper 6 <----- pretty sure its free
cloneDVD
anydvd

Clone dvd will shrink the movie and extras that you choose down to 4.7Gb by lowering the quality of the image

Anydvd is a program that disables the region coding and copy protection.....use in conjunction with a dvd copying program.

Edit: neither off which are freeware

with windows media 9 series some dvds dont play with all the sound....like some sound doesnt come out as loud as it should....in the 7 worlds collide dvd when some people are talking its so soft that if the speakers are turned all the way up you still cant hear the speaking much.
so to avoid this i use a program called: cyberlink power dvd.
