Like the previous Best Games of 2009 awards, we shall make a list of the top 5 worst games of 2009 were. I'll keep track of the record in this post here, so just keep watching this spot. I'll throw in my Top 5 now:
1 is the worst, 5 least worse.
1) Left 4 Dead 2 (Australian Edition)
I haven't played the US version, but it looks fun. This version is extremel insulting and I really hope it hardly sold any copies in order to send a message across. Zombies disappearing in mid-air and the game becoming extremely easy (I can finish it on Expert...never could in L4D1).
2) Rogue Warrior
'Nuff said.
3) Resident Evil 5
Man how could they screw up the series like this? They somehow changed the formula, added in a bad co-op mode and made crap enemies. Pass.
4) Wolfenstein
Another case of lost potential.
5) Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Purely for the single player mode. What a crappy story line apart from one good level (airport) rest was just unconventional story telling for the hell of it, for a story that didn’t exist, and the plot lines weren’t resolved at all. _________________

1. Damnation - I don't even want to talk about it. The sight of cowboy hats still gives me nightmares at what a travesty this game is. At least Call of Jaurez: BiB went some way at making Westerns good again. Linky to my thoughts from long time ago
2. Lord of the Rings: Conquest - I recall writing a lengthy hate post about this game, so rather than have to think about this piece of shit game any more, I'll linky to that.
3. Rogue Warrior - Took me 2.5 hours to finish this on hard difficulty, none of which was original... or any fun. I contemplated whether I should've demanded my $1 I paid to rent it (joking). Every generic FPS locale is visited, with dodgy graphics and a horrible cover system where you can only shoot around cover at 90 degrees. Actually not even that far, more like 45, and the terrible hit detection doesn't help. Not to mention the stupid AI that often charges you. Only thing that made me smile a couple times were Dick's outbursts during the game, 99% of which were curse-laden.
4. The Punisher: Subtitled Something - I still regret throwing just $13 to download this shit. The single-player mode was over in about 30-45 minutes, and was nothing but dodgy deathmatch missions with bots. The actual online MP is a lag-fest, with nothing new, and makes me wonder why they'd bother (and why I bothered) when there are perfectly good MP shooters out there.
5. The Saboteur - Hmm, I can't really think of a 5th one to add on the top of my head, so I'll go with this for the time being. Honestly, it isn't that bad, especially compared to the turds higher on the list. I loved the visual style and setting, but everything else is just so unpolished and forgettable. The gunplay is particularly unsatisfying, it feels more like shooting light water pistols at pieces of paper. The climbing just feels awkward with crappy animations when compared to ACII. The driving is terrible, with cars turning late. I could go on, and it's an absolute shame, as I said earlier, the visual style and setting alone almost make it worth checking out, but every other aspect lets it down. _________________

Guess I'm lucky enough to not have played any games I hated to this year, including Lord of the Rings: Conquest. That was a fun game.

Hmm...I can't say that I've played any notable shockers this year, but I have played some disappointments.
1. Borderlands.
I'm going to get shot for this, but I just plain didn't like it. It didn't help that it corrupted my save file after I poured hours of killing the same enemies over and over. I liked the whole idea of the game - levels, statistic weapons, looting, the graphics - but it was such a bore doing the same thing over and over. And for the better part of my time I didn't find any guns that were particularly enjoyable to use. Perhaps I should've given it more time, but if a game doesn't grab me after 8 or so hours play then it's doing something wrong.
2. The Saboteur
bobboblaw summed it up pretty well. Potentially enjoyable game sorely let down by a lack of polish.
At the moment those are the only two games that I can think of. Neither are terrible games by and stretch of the imagination; they just weren't for me. I'll add more if I think of them.

Operation Flashpoint 2 - They have tarnished the Operation Flashpoint name by bringing out this rubbish, I have only played the PC Version but its a direct port from console version which in the PC Industry is the worst move ever. There is no dedicated server support, RIP OFP2, I await the arrival of the next "Tactical shooter" being Ghost Recon Predator.

Hey El Taco, glad to see you're jumping on the anti-bandwagon-bandwagon, calling any game remotely popular the "worst games of the year", despite genuinely awful games such as Grey's Anatomy: The Game being released this year. Enjoy your wankerish hipsterality, dude. _________________

I agree with you there, while it wasn't a bad game, it was my biggest disappointment of the year.
I had been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced last year and liked the look of it even more when they changed the art direction and went with the cell shaded look and then being a combo of action RPG and FPS (my 2 fav genres) I thought I would love it.
I had fun with it for the first few hours, but the non existent story and the lack of varied quest's really dampened it for me.
However I never tried online co-op, so who knows that might of made me enjoy it more, but for playing alone, it had me disappointed. _________________

Some of the most disappointing ones for me would be Operation Flashpoint 2, ArmA 2, America's Army 3, Order of War etc. They are no way to be the worst of the year, but really could be better as I am looking forward to. And the final one maybe is Modern Warfare 2, still above average but have to say it's not as good as COD 4, especially the multiplayer downgrade.

Don't understand. This thread has potential. We have a best games thread where we say what games we enjoyed, why not have one for the opposite?

My biggest disappointments of the year would be...
1. Eat Lead
2. Left 4 Dead (AU)
3. Borderlands
Other than that, I didn't really not like too many games (only really played AAA games. _________________

But he's not talking about the opposite, these are all good games which people have been disappointed in. These aren't the worst games of the year by far. _________________

You're right, Darunia, it should be renamed, and this was absolutely worth describing the original poster as a "hipsterish wanker" over.
For goodness sakes, it's a silly thread about games we thought were bad. It's not worth making a fuss over.

Maybe he didn't play Greys anatomy? Ever think of that? I didn't even know there was a game of it let alone play it.
Anyway my worst game this year would likely be Terminator Salvation. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

^ Thank you.
Maybe the shock of a game that is supposed to be good not living up to the hype is worse for him than a crap game that was always going to be a crap game. _________________

I just don't know how you can call l4d2 easy?
L4d1 is a god damn cakewalk with team mates with half a brain, nice short maps, and finales/climaxes/horde bum rushes that are made redundant by simply finding the nearest corner and parking your collective asses in it until the threat subsides.
The addition of the spitter and charger are a stroke of god damn genius and force people to play the game more 'realistically'.These, coupled with the extremely long maps maps, set pieces where the survivors need to initiate the scripted scene and then RUN to a switch/lever to turn it off rather then wait it out like in l4d1 make certain campaigns IMPOSSIBLE on expert.
L4d1 i experted relatively easily, i don't see myself doing the same in l4d2 without alot of luck and some very tight communciation between very skilled team mates. _________________

I've had a good run this year, I can't think of any bad games to write about. It probably helps that I barely bought any of the games that were released this year (no Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 2 or MW2 here), and instead focused mainly on games that were released last year or earlier. The worst I plyaed this year was probably Eat Lead, but then I didn't have high expectations for it to begin with. I was just playing it for the amusing concept. _________________

The whole point of the game is multiplayer. That's like playing Diablo or an MMO by yourself and deciding it isn't good. And it had as good a story as it needed, looking for the vault, while helping people who knew where a bit of the key was. More happens, but that would be considered a spoiler. . And what quests could you add to it. There is killing and collecting, not many RPG's like this have much more than that.
