But yeah, I know a vote for the Greens at the moment is as good as a vote for Labour, and I'm sort of OK with that.

Oh I know, I had an hour long conversation with the Greens representative here last election since she was actually a local which is a rather rare outside of independents. But yeah, current climate being what it is, you really can;t see the Greens flipping to the Liberals anytime soon.

He's an excellent orator.

Gave a person a year to find 10 people from the Stolen Generations, the guy didn't, and told him to name 50 people from the holocaust.

Man did he get owned.

And why would he, i don't get the "ownage".....onus of proof is on the person making the claim, bolt made no claim about the holocaust so the point is what?

The question posed (by Bolt) was;

"name 10 people from the stolen generation" and the individual was given a year and could not.

Bolt then asked "name me 50 people from the holocaust"

And thus you have the pic that was posted and the apparent "ownage" in the sheer amount of people who died and are listed as such because of the holocaust. 50 in about 6mil is a relatively easy task as opposed to 10 in hundreds.

At least that's my understanding of what happened by the post.

Why would little children even need to be able to access the internet?

From what I can tell from the children I babysit for...all they access is club penguin. And if I was their mum I wouldn't let them access it because every time they go to a toy shop it's "OMG club penguin....PLEASE mum Please buy us club penguin so I can get the code off the toy!?!?!?PLEASE!!!!!!!"

We are just letting them grow up too fast. I think they should go outside and play and use their imagination and be little kids...not little adults.

I think the money for this stupid internet filter should go to the grossly under funded child protection agency that stops little kids getting abused by their parents.

shit yes. it's actually sickening when you think of how much money this crap takes in comparison to WE DON'T EVEN HAVE ENOUGH PUBLIC HOUSING funded for people yet.

if you ever take a stroll through the decrepid old public housing blocks in the city, see how bad they are, and then consider people sit on a waiting list for years for this shit, it is concerning.

I echo the getting outside part, fondest memories I have as a kid is building a little fort in the creek before the council bulldozed it in redevelopment and awwww's were had. People used to throw all manner of trash down there like half broken chairs, tables, trolleys even and we'd just stack them as a junk fort. Man that was awesome upon reflection.

But these days, you have a goddamn mobile by 12 and the females wear makeup by 13, it's friggen ridiculous.

Oh, Andrew Bolt completely owned the kid (The kid asked him to name 50 people from the holocaust), acknowledging what you just said and giving everyone else the idea of what an idiot that kid was.

EDIT: How old is that post?

Apparently, Karen Willis did.

How lovely of them to pull out the 'You're with us, or you're with the rapists' card.

Elderely learn to beat internet filter

http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/elderly-learn-to-beat-euthanasia-blacklist-20100405-rn6i.html

Quote:

PAMELA LAZEMBY, 82, has beaten cancer: she has no fear of learning how to beat the law.
''Now I'm on borrowed time I can afford to live dangerously,'' she said after attending the first in a series of workshops teaching people how to circumvent a proposed law restricting access to some internet sites, expected to include some on euthanasia.
Websites associated with Exit International and its suicide manual, the Peaceful Pill Handbook, are expected to be refused classification and therefore to be inaccessible from Australian computers once a mandatory internet filter is in place.
Ms Lazemby has nursed four elderly people to death and is determined she will not end up in a nursing home. If the time comes, she says she may want information about how to end her life. ''I'm not going to let that happen to me,'' she said.
While some of the 47 people attending the Chatswood workshop - which is not illegal but is expected to become so when the legislation comes into force - are still taking elementary computer lessons, others learnt in only a few minutes how to access any website through a proxy server to bypass the filter's firewall.
''It's not to do with Exit. The issue is wider,'' said Ken, one of the participants. He objected to the uncontrolled list of restricted sites. ''I see it [the Australian Communications and Media Authority which will administer the filter] as George Orwell's Ministry of Truth.''
Michael, who said he regularly downloaded information from Exit's website, said he attended to learn how to bypass the internet filter, so he could still access the site later.
The Exit International founder, Philip Nitschke, said after the ''hacking'' lesson that Exit would investigate if it could set up its own proxy server or VPN tunnel, so its members had a safe way of accessing its information.
Bettina O'Meara, 83, a mother of a mentally ill child, said she had noticed something was wrong with the system. She had seen what happened to sick elderly people in hospitals and nursing homes and was determined she did not want it to happen to her.
''I don't set out to do anything illegal but I firmly believe that all senior adults if they have severe illnesses have the right anyway to choose how they end their lives,'' she said.
Judith, from Potts Point, is still learning how to use her new computer. But with a ''prognosis of losing my memory'', she is determined to find a way to take ''a little pill'' when she finds she can no longer handle it.
''I don't want to be alive when I'm just a body.

Apparently conroy is going to talk on 3aw to derrin hinch sometime between 4-6pm today about the filter. Should be interesting, hinch did a segment on the filter a month ago and slammed it.

4 corners report from last night on the internet filter. (play button top left)

Interesting fact, 37 circumvention methods were tested and almost all of them were successful. All were found through a google search.

Well if we don't like what this government is doing, just show them the back door during this election year.

The problem is that this policy is left over from the Howard era, and for whatever reason the Rudd government picked it up and ran with it.

I'd be unsurprised if a Liberal government also support the filter with someone like Abbott leading them.

The other problem is that the Libs will almost certainly scrap the NBN as well, screwing us out of decent 'net in this country for the forseeable future.

Can't friggin' win either way.
