Yeah, Game Trader Burwood disappeared more than 2 year ago?, I think. So now the only game store in the area is EB, like a monopoly there. The only suitable places to do price match is Kmart/Target, and maybe Dick Smith (not in the same shopping centre). But those places don't allow trading games so many rules/ restrictions from EB.
Although I got quite a few cheap preowned games from EB to trade into JB.

I never buy from Eb because their prices are terrible and you go in there and you see a $79 game at jb stickered at eb for $110. come on. Stop shopping at this sh*thole australia.
I never buy from Game because their sales people are terriblely obnoxious and they never have stock of advertised specials
Jbhifi FTW. I'm glad there 2 near me and that they're both awesome. _________________

i never buy at EB. they have rubbish prices, their trade in deals are a joke, their second hand games are overpriced and they generally have a bad selection of games compared to JB.
i guess their only saving grace is their return policy but the price gap is so great compared to JB that if i was unsure if a game was a keeper i'd probably buy at EB and if I liked it I'd take it back and get a refund and go buy it at JB for $40 less. i don't bother with price matching because i'd prefer to give my money to the store that price their games correctly than the stores that only charge the right price if you're a informed consumer.

I used the seven day policy once - for the second True Crime game - and the guy acted like I'd just killed the pope so I haven't done it since.

Unfortunately for some of us EB is the only half-decent gaming store in town so we are effectively forced to shop there unless we want to order online.

I've never done it as i presume they would kick up a stink with whatever marks are on the game disc. My argument would be that they were on the disc BEFORE i played it (due to the way EB store their discs), but i doubt i'd win

Yep.I don't buy online so the only decent store to buy games from is EB Games.I hate Target so I only buy games form them if I HAVE to.
I like going to the shops and buying games.I guess I'm old fasioned but going to the shop and buying games is the only way to go for me.
Besides all the people at our EB Games are awesome people. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

Not all EB Games are created equally.
There's 3 EB Games in town here in Melbourne and I find that the Swantson Street EB Games is the only one worth going to.
The one in Melbourne Central and Elizabeth Street my personal experience have been rude and obnoxious and I'm more than happy to tell all my friends that.
Unfortunately the amount of business the other 2 branches makes will pretty much result in not seeing any changes in their attitude any time in the near future.

I do think that is true - as much as i like to nit pick at their services on forums.... i still visit them from time to time.
One of the tiniest stores in Victoria (Brandon Park) has had awesome staff over the last few years, the Glen Waverley store has had it's fair share of dodgey managers + workers.... but also excellent one's (i've found that at times they've had poor workers, but an excellent good manager.... and other times the regular staff is better than the next person who manages the store).
The Knox City EB is meant to be one of the most profitable in Victoria or all of Australia..... however i find that mind boggling with the different types of workers that have worked there over the years .

Really? I've always found the Elizabeth Street store to be quite good, I've bought from them the most. Melbourne Central sucks though. _________________

All of them are still quite good.
Melbourne Central used to be the best one in the in city, that is before the Damien guy became store manager. Elizabeth street has been good in this year, the management team from 2007 to late 2008 was a disaster.
And I do agree Swanston street is the best at the moment, never had a problem with them.
Done over 100 transactions this year, only one bad experience was from Melbourne Central.

For me game is where the hearts at. I have 4 eb's within 10k's of my house, and the only reason i ever go its because id go to one of the smaller branches, as their pretty keen on sales so i tend to get them to match jb's 3 for 1 as they only ask for a drivers license, dont check if your over 18. _________________

I asked my local EB if this was true and they said they have never heard of such policy..
It would be stupid to tell people if they pricematch they can't return it..

That's a very good point. One factor is the store size, also tend to happen when there are many competitors nearby, especially GAME and JB (which not only offer lower price but also accept trade-ins).

I'm lucky, I have my pick of JB, EB x 2, HN, GAME, DSE and then some, all within a short walk of each other. Although an EB staff member once told me of this policy, I've never had any other problems trading or price matching with EB. Not to mention the fact I returned a game that I had price matched.
Like any large organisation, there are always people who misinterpret or twist the rules to suit themselves. I'd say the blame for the inconsistent service at EB lay squarely at the feet of management, so don't be too hard on staff members who have to enforce an unpopular policy.
Anyway, I usually shop at JB, but often the lines are long and I don't have time to walk there, so a quick price match at EB is very convenient for me, as they are literally across the road from where I work.
Having said that, the minute they start screwing me around, it's adios.

EB in Katoomba price match JB in Penrith. That's a good 45 minute drive away. Maybe you just have an anal store owner.

Ah, EB isn't a shop for gamers anyway. It's for parents who have been told by their 9 year old that they want that new "Modern Warfare" game. Most gamers who use it tend to just to abuse their trade-in scheme.
Seriously, have a look at one just before Xmas/after Boxing Day. Almost everyone crowding the store is a young kid or a middle aged parent (and has no idea about price shopping ). I only ever go there now to pick up old PS2 games for my nephew, best deals are either online or at JB.

I'll refuse to go to EB if I can help it. Sell second hand games for new at rip-off prices! JB is usually the place I go to for the majority of my game purchases. Either there or online.
The thing I hate though is store exclusives. I want the Bioshock 2: LE and it's only available at EB. Unfortunately I had to cave and feel kinda dirty for doing so.

i know I'm raising a dead topic but just letting you know this "cant 7 day exchange if you price match" was told to me again as Liverpool EBs today. (matching BIg W for red dead redemption).......of course I could always return it to another store (which I won't casue why would I) but it seems some stores continie with this unoffical policy (well at least one) _________________

Definitely sent through an email via the EB website (from experience it gets sent to your local area manager) and ask about it. As far as I'm aware, policies should be the same at every EB. And anything that comes from the Area Manager will overrule anything the store manager says.
Unless of course they were told to do that by their area manager, but at least you'd know for sure.
