8.4
Awesome.
EB CE: Impressions of contents
EDIT: the cloth map is LAME. Seriously, compared to my Icewind Dale, Baldurs Gate and Ultima VIII ones cloth maps have gone downhill. The print is really average and the material is really average with bits of cloth/string loose on the edges.
The tin is nice. However. _________________

Their closing comments seem to focus on the negatives more than the positives. 8.4 is still a decent score though, still a purchase for me! _________________ XBL/PSN/Steam: BenC82

I think it might be to highlight why they didn't give it a 9.5 like frothing fans will be expecting. I must admit, I was a bit disappointed about the lack of originality. New world and everything, but lets make elves and dwarfs again, with the same used cliches.
Oh I will still be getting it for sure at some stage, but I've had this nagging feeling that there will be a few shortcomings, and not the perfect flawless rpg that everyone seems to be expecting.

Yeah, was kinda hoping for awesome graphics and audio, but they seemed to mark those down. I just hope its not to old school for me. _________________

Wow only 8.4? I was expecting at least 9.4+ on this one, suprised the graphics and sound were marked down so much given its Bioware. Still, its a definite purchase for me. _________________

Sounds like a standard RPG thats been done to death, I'll get it probably... but only at launch if I score a review copy through OXCGN, or I might wait for xmas if there's nothing else I want.
Was kind of hoping for a Fantasy Mass Effect, but ahh well.
The gameplay looks very... I dunno slow and boring. Reminds me of Baldurs Gate, (which was a great game.. but you really had to like it to enjoy it)
edit: looks very old school anyway. _________________ http://bencadphotography.com/

8.4?! What an AWFUL score! I definitely won't be buying this FILTH if it can only score an 8.4, how disappointing! That's only "Impressive" but not "Outstanding". In my book "impressive" definitely equals "rubbish that shouldn't be bought". _________________ My Photos

Expect a markedly different review landscape for the PC release though. I've never thought that the graphics were anything to write home about (everything seems so bland and washed out, whereas Balders Gate 2 was dark but surprisingly vivid), but at least on the PC they'll be "as good as they can be".
What will sell this to me is the storyline, character interfacing and combat dynamics. With regards to the latter, I've worried from the start that the controls on the consoles were far too restrictive. I'm glad I ended up going with the Digital Deluxe steam release, but it'll still be interesting to see how the PC reviews stack up. _________________

biowares story telling is what led me to this. it's been awhile since i've played a game where i've actually paid attention to the story.

This is definately made more for the PC. The reviews for the PC have been getting better reviews. 9-9.4's
Dissapointing really, I was expecting it review equally on all systems, like Mass Effect. _________________

EB is listing the game as out today for 360 and PC. Search for stock on the website shows nothing but they will probably sell as they get stock. _________________

The game's mechanics work around the Baldurs Gate DnD system so I'm not surprised that the game doesn't work as well on consoles, it's a system that was efficient and extremely quick on PC due to the mouse+keyboard.
That being said, 8+ isn't bad (just not as good as PC /elitist) _________________

Damn wish I had that gaming PC I am getting next year, now.
8.4 is fine by me I expected the shortcomings in controls, graphics, originality and camera on console. I find it weird that people see one score though and kinda diss a game based on it, specially an 8+. Anyhow, kinda funny now the first trailers featured MANSON singing ARE YOU ________ READY! FOR THE NEW ____! when its so old school!
As a die hard fan of the old school Baldurs gate 1/2, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment etc. I am IN on this one, just might play it a bit but wait till DEMONS SOULS is completed to really delve in. _________________

Also a die-hard fan of the original BG series. The hype for me was massive once I read that this is the supposed spiritual successor.
So far, it's the biggest disappointment for me this year. I thought there was an option for a top-down isometric view of some sorts? Because there isn't one on the console version.
Was expecting deep character customisation due to the BG references, hell I was still expecting to be on the character creation screen at this point; it's extremely basic. Graphics are bland, it looks like a launch title.
Chose a dwarven fighter from a castless background, and the story doesn't seem very deep at all so far. No real loot dropping/hidden chests in cities which I wlso expected.
Can't really comment on the combat as I've only just passed the training grounds. So there's been a couple of small training objectives, but once again the destination objective doesn't show up on the corners of the mini-map on the HUD, I keep having to go back into the main map screen to find out where I'm going.
But yeah only played for an hour so can't make too many comments, but initial impressions are very average indeed, I'm starting to believe that even an 8.4 is very generous, there's just nothing original and I don't want to be subjected to mediocrity for the supposed 60-80 hour story length.
I should have really just waited and bought the PC version, but I'm always choosing the couch+big TV rather than being hunched over a little computer screen. I'm sure the PC version would be alot better.

To be honest I haven't really enjoyed an rpg since BG2. KOTOR and Mass Effect were good but felt ultimatley shallow. I'm pretty hyped for this game to say the least. Later this week I should recieve Demon's Souls and will hopefully get Dragon Age on steam tonight. Probably have to wait a week until I finish exams before I can get in on some RPG nirvana.

I just saw a video review on Gamespot that just got taken down for some reason. Didn't say much except they think the PS3 version is better than 360?! I'm a bit suprised. _________________

People who have bought the console version without knowing anything other than this game is a spiritual successor to BGII I feel sorry for.
The PC version has the option between tactical view (the isometric old school field) and the adventure mode (3rd person action game). The PC one is meant to play nearly exactly the same as in pause, give commands, unpause go whereas i think the console version is control one char like in wow and the rest of the party are AI controlled.
I have heard the graphics arent top of the line since this game was announced like over 5 years ago, and they would have had to scrap the old engine completely. I am installing now though, so I will be back to give PC impressions in a couple of hours!

I would love the PC version, alas, no gaming PC until Q1 2010 for me. Been playing the 360 version all afternoon, its seems to be a great, solid RPG/Adventure.
I wouldn't feel sorry for anyone who has the console version as long as they love RPG's and don't own a gaming PC.
So far, great. Installed makes load times heaps better. Graphics are pretty average but I care not, its exactly what I thought it would be so far. _________________

Hmm I'm starting to get sceptical. Basically I was interested in it because..well its Bioware, and Bioware have already produced 2 of my favourite games of all time (KOTOR and Mass Effect). The only RPGs I've really enjoyed was those two, Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Was counting on this to draw me in with a great storyline and voice acting. I guess maybe I'll give it a rent first just to be safe. _________________

If this is true of the console version, that basically means anything but PC is gimped. _________________
