Completed the story today, I found the last bosses all very easy. But then again I had everyone maxed out and had sprint shoes on everyone... I'll probably finish all the Gran Pulse missions now while I'm still into the game as while I enjoyed it I probably won't touch it again after this initial go with it. _________________

It seems like THEMAN just comes in to troll this topic now.
Read the datalog as that fills you in or rather summarizes what has happened in the story. There is also a lot of backstory in there too.

I was being serious.
Him/Emech are echoing my sentiments earlier. and it never got to a point where I can say I had a good time with it. If anything, I think I dislike FFXIII. Especially after finishing both GOWIII+Heavy Rain after FFXIII and both were much superior gaming experiences.

I think FFXIIIs story isn't the best (although really, I think most RPGs stories are just as bad) I found the game to be exceptionally fun. I haven't played an RPG that much in a long time. And I've never liked one enough to max out all my characters the way I did in XIII.
Final Fantasy XIII has Peveus' seal of approval. _________________

So guys that have played the game to its penultimate conclusion..
Does it stack up to the previous games?
All from what i have seen the actual system of it looks to be really dumbded down, is this SE venture into the foray of the mediocre person?
From the games in the past there was nothing better than actually adventuring to new lands, so far from what I have seen of FF13 it seems you play an interactive movie until 3/4 of the way through then are given a small amount of land to *grind on* fuck SE if they think that this is what the people that have grown up on this want.
What drugs are they smoking over there? either that or they are trying to get people onto the non hardcore gaming bandwagon.
final fantasy afficianados expect more than this tripe.
I hope final fantasy versus actually delivers more as i dont mind the kingdomhearts sort of battle system, but seems with this latest iteration they severely dropped the ball.
BTW this is coming from a person that has played them all up until this point. just seems that such a far out diversion from their normal sort of gaming environment, and I am saddened. _________________

I don't think it does, personally. I think FF has lost its way a bit, but I'm not saying it's a bad game or anything. In fact, I've just made it to chapter 11 and I'm loving the game more than I ever have. But for the wrong reasons, mainly. The story and characters are not going to be in my top ten lists or anything like that ... they're mostly forgettable or dull. Lightning is about the only decent character that I seem to actually care about, followed by Hope. Fang is probably the only really "cool" character that seems to have everything right: the voice, the things she says, etc.
It seems to have the same issue as FF12: a fun and interesting battle system, marks to hunt and loot to create, but the story and the characters, as mentioned above, are not in the same league anymore.
I think that there are plenty of better RPGs out there and if one of those came out on the same day that FF14 or 15 came out, I would definitely be buying the other RPG before I consider scrounging around for some loose change, so to speak. _________________

I did like the characters, but there really isn't a lot of room for development. The game feels like it takes place over a few days, so it is more of a lets hurry to our next destination sort of thing.

It DOES take place over a few days. They say so near the end "The past few days have been rough" or something. _________________

tripe.
I actually think Lost Odyssey is a better FF game than FFXIII - in hindsight. If you haven't played it and own a x360, it might have lesser graphics but then everything else from boss fights, to 3D world, to characters, story etc are all better. The villian in LO is way better than the clown in XIII.
also PALGn is a smaller gamer pool and I read neogaf - the diversity of opinions on the game is a better read. Some perspective. I think if you're critical, FFXIII just isn't a good game

I think most other RPGS released this gen are better then FXIII. I wouldnt say FFXIII is a really bad game, in-fact i enjoy it. But compared to other RPGs out there FFXIII isnt anything special.

This is true for absolutly any game out there.
FFXIII is probably my 4th favourite of the FF series, behind 9, 6 and 11, and just above 7 and 8. This puts it quite far down my overall list of my favourite RPGs, but I still highly recommend it. _________________

If there was a game with no flaws, we'd all be playing it, and the company who developed it would be worshipped as Gods amongst salespeople and marketeers around the world. _________________

I think your a funny guy. No really.
Have you not asked yourself, maybe the game just didn't suit YOU. Looking through the pages here, it seems there is a lot of love.
FFXIII is way superior to GOWIII from my perspective. GOWIII was a 7 hour beefed PS2 game with better graphics with a throwaway story. But hey, that's just my personal taste. _________________ Shin J Leon.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Leon.
I knew this game would be either a love it or hate it type of RPG and luckily for me I loved it from start to finish.

I wouldn't go as far as saying FFXIII is better than GOWIII but I did really enjoy it, I still rate FFX as my favourite FF game though. _________________

The two games cannot be compared in any shape or form really as to which is a better game, as they're both completely different games. It's like saying Back Door Sluts 9 is better than The Matrix, they simply cannot be compared as they're too different.
As for the game, I sat down and gave it a couple more hours this week and now I'm really enjoying it after reading the datalog entries. The music is great (except the battle music) and was just gobsmacked walking through the frozen water level, it just looked so beautiful. The enemies aren't too memorable like the tonberrys from VII or the Malboro's from VIII, hopefully some cool, unique enemies start to appear as I progress further.

Yes it is, it's saying that just because you don't like something it doesn't mean it's bad.
I can't stand coffee, but I don't preach to coffee drinkers that it's crap and they shouldn't drink it. _________________

No, it's trying to hammer home the point everyone is trying to get through your thick skull: Just because you don't like something, doesn't make it objectively bad. Grow up and learn that not everyone has to share your opinion.

Well I'm playing through quite slowly, especially because of GoW3, but I dunno, this is starting to get Western RPG Syndrome for me. Well what I mean is that one moment you wanna play it heaps, and the next you just stop. And then never go back, and when you do it's like fuck it ima go shoot/stab/jump in some other game. It's a good game no doubt, but the first half of not-so-greatness is taking it bloody time. Also, I must say, the Crystarium is a bit meh, especially considering in FFX I could turn Tidus into a healer, and Yuna into a tank, IF I was really bothered, whereas this is just like a linear levelling system, except I have to open the Start Menu for it to level my character.
Overall so far I give it an 8/10, purely because I know there is a good game in it, I just have to reach it. BTW it doesn't come close to some of the other FF's that have come before it, but its better then no FF XD _________________
