Mine has been fine...

BUT! I do get Error 80023AD all the time, which essentially signs me out of the PSN at random times.. which is ultra annoying..

I've contacted Sony support about it, who literally said "sorry we do not know what that error is" ... stupid sony.

I had no clue if thats a console thing, or just a random error.

Mine has been going fine, seven of my friends have the 60GB with no apparent problems.

Also Shadow Wave are you on wireless? If so what settings does it say on your PS3. Because I had a problem like that but I just reconfigured my router.

Well you guys must understand that it IS hardware, and no hardware is infallible *cough* Microsoft *cough*. Just comes down to whether you were lucky or not, and how well you are taking care of your console, though sometimes perfectly well cared for consoles can screw up. *shrugs*

mine would still be going if it wasnt for a blackout. My 60 was alot quieter then my 40 so i always thought the 40 would die first and was actually hoping if one was to die it would be the 40 because i had the extended 5 years warranty at harvey norman and just the standard sony warranty on the 60.

Mine has been great, no problems at all. I don't think they're any less reliable than any other model.

I think we all know how mine went.

The new one has been going fine, 10 months since I got the replacement. icon_y1.gif

I've never had a problem with my launch model and I use it for hours every single day for DVDs, DivX and games and what not icon_surprised.gif

My own launch model has been going wonderfully well, the only issues that has arisen occasionally is freezing, especially when playing PS2 games, but beyond that it has been absolutely fine icon_smile.gif

Mine died. Oh wait you know that.

Was incredibly loud though. Much louder then my 360. But I never had a problem until a couple days ago.

I'm sure the new models are more realiable.

But it's like anything. A lot of ppl still have launch 360s and they are going strong. It's just luck.

It's not just the 60GB models that have problems, the 40GB versions have had a lot of trouble with the Blu-Ray drives dying ... mine included!

But as ZeroX03 said, you can never have 100% reliability when it comes to mass produced hardware. It's just the luck of the draw.

My PS3 usually sits on the medium fan setting. In Summer it kicked up to high a few times and it was VERY loud... but it hasn't done that since the cool weather sat in. Despite having less vents, the newer models are indeed a lot quieter...

I've also got a launch 60GB model and I've never had a problem. It's only frozen on a few occasions, but that's the fault of the glitchy abysmal games I was playing at the time *cough* Damnation & LotR:C *cough*. It was probably just a defense mechanism of the PS3, as bad gameplay may be contagious.

I've played my PS3 ALOT for over 2 years, but I've always had good luck with consoles and computer hardware. icon_smile.gif

My launch PS3 is still going perfectly. I get signed out of the PSN very occasionally, and it's frozen two or three times, but I think that was the game's fault (pre-patch Assassin's Creed and Mirror's Edge). The fan stays on the lowest or middlish setting during Winter, though it can get fairly loud in Summer. I've never had anything resembling a problem with it.

My 60 gb launch model got the ylod 18 months after launch. I ended up just buying a new 80gb one as I still have my old ps2 so backwards compatibility didn't really mean too much to me (I do miss its convenience though).

After having the the boy I tutor's PS3 died (as mentioned in the Yellow Light of Death thread), I had read a lot and found that apparently launch models will have a higher chance of failure (the yellow light of death ones) because apparently they used cheap paste on the CPU that could wear off in a few years after many uses, unlike the current ones that use silvery thermal paste.

Mines absolutely fine though I noticed gathers a lot of dust around and on it after a while, so I gently clean it. Though, dust has become a problem for a few mates, any idea how to clean it out? Guess warranty is no issue since its ran out by now.

Newer models also have the smaller 65nm (soon to be 45mm) cpu and are cooler and more efficient. I don't know much difference this makes though.

I have a launch 60GB and I have never had a problem with it. It's the most reliable piece of kit that I own. I feel sorry for the people who do have issues, considering they seem to be in the vast minority.
