Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Curesed King = WINNER
This and the worst voice acting thread probably would have worked better as one thread. More discussion. _________________

Ah my young padowan(not sure how to actually spell that) but with only one thread then there is only one thread to reply to, which makes the post count increase at a much slower rate. _________________

With a lot of the games I play being Nintendo ones I don't really experience good or propper voice acting but I have been expanding out into other systems and have had a small taste of what there is out there.
I think that the voice acting in Metal Gear Solid was excellent. It was executed very well and had a nice flow to it.
I have always loved the voice acting in Monkey Island games. The best jokes have a perfect delivery and to do that in a game it really needs to have good voice acting. I don't know of any games besides the Monkey Island games that does this better. _________________

Manhunt, the voice acting by starkweather: - aka Brian Cox (X-Mex 2 baddie).
This is some serious voice acting. In my opinion, the best villanous voice acting from any game i have experienced. Such hatred just adds to the atmophere of a truly gruesome game. _________________

I don't know about being the best, but I heart Viewtiful Joe's cheesy (intentionally so) voice acting, particularly Hulk Davidson. _________________

Final Fantasy X was my favourite, although Tales of Symphonia was also fairly good IMO. _________________

Metal Gear Solid 3 would probably take the crown for me with GTA:SA close behind. There really aren't enough games with good voice acting around to be honest, it pains me that great games like Lost Planet contain about as much vocal talent as the people in my Drama lessons at school

^I was disappointed in MGS3 with the enemy sentries talking in American accents (or what is English?). I know that they were speaking in Russian and they made it like that so it seems that Snake can understand them rah rah rah. But it just didn't feel right. Minus points, Kojima.

ToS wasn't as bad as people say IMO, but I wouldn't regard it as the best. I can't really recall a game which had superb voice acting tied in with facial animation. I'll be starting FFX soon, so we'll see if that changes. _________________

I thought that was clever... Sokolov saying to Snake 'your russian is superb.' displaying that they actually were talking in Russian it was just translated for us to English.
Like 'allo 'allo where the Officer can't speak proper french (which is in this show english) so he constantly mispronounces phrases. 'Good Moaning.'

The original Resident Evil has some pretty awesome voice acting.
What? What is this?
Blood!
Maybe it's... Chris's blood?
/spew
There are plenty of games out there that have decent voice acting that do enough to get the job done, but a few of them really stand out to me like Dreamfall for example. For a game that's all about character development, the voice work in this game does wonders at helping bring a real sense of personality to each of the characters. At no point in the game did the voice work feel out of place and break the illusion that this is actually a video game. I cannot sing the games praises enough.
Eternal Darkness also had some pretty incredible voice work, especially from that fatty ancestor, what's-his-name, the one that can perform autopsies. Maximillion? I remember feeling genuinely uncomfortable while listening to the insane ramblings of his autopsy reports. _________________

I knew someone would say something like that. I just liked the certain voices on the characters in both games. Sure overall it comes off cheesy but I liked the voices of Zelos and Auron in both games.

Auron was leagues above anyone else in that game so I'll forgive you I'm being a bit harsh really, it's just whenever anyone mentions FFX's voice acting all I can think of is 'that' laughing scene on the ship. I don't think I've ever felt so awkward watching a cutscene in my life
ToS's voice acting was little more than adequate though. Not bad by any means but not even Kratos could make it special. That said, I really should finish that game one day.... _________________

Its not on a ship...its leaving Luca for the first time, yeah? I remember it so well, for the exact same reason...that scene makes me cringe. Ick.

^There was a big change in this one compared to FFX... well maybe not huge (im talking about voice acting)
just that alot of it was more Text-based instead of Voice-acting, anyone else notice this? _________________ xfire = andylulz

I liked the voices of everyone except Yuna and Tidus in FFX, but in 12, everyone's great. They made the effort to make regional accents that didn't sound stupid for once, it adds to the epic scale. El Cid ftw! _________________ Playing: 30sec Hero, Scribblenauts, Dungeon Crawl

I loved the Voice Acting in MGS3, so I definately have to agree with Chris there.
And yes, that FFX laughing scene was extremely awkward. It's like, you don't kow what to do. Are you supposed to laugh with them or look away and leave them to have their 'moment'?
I found the voice acting in Gears of War to be great, it really immerses you in the experience.
BTW why couldn't both voice topics (best & worst) be put together?
