I was hoping this'd be a little more deadpan. The trailer seems almost slapstick.

Still, Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes is something I will gladly pay to see. Actually, that applies to anything with Robert Downey Jr. in it, but him playing Sherlock Holmes will be fantastic.

The trailer kinda turned me off. But, given it's from Guy Ritchie, I'm willing to give it a proper chance before rubbishing it completely.

Robert Downey Jr is one of my favourite actors of the moment, Guy Ritchie has directed some of my favourite films (RocknRolla... not so much) and Rachel McAdams is outrageously attractive. I just hope these ingredients come together to make a great movie.

I cant wait for this film. I think its going to be a breath of fresh air into the detective genre.. ala Pink Panther and Pink Panther 2 with Steve Martin.

Did you just say Pink Panther was a breath of fresh air? It’s a remake of a 1963 movie?

This should be good. Robert Downey Jr was excellent in ironman and is certainly having a resurgent of late. Guy Ritchie looking by the trailer has reverted back to the form that made lock stock and snatch some of my favourite films. I thought rock n rolla was decent but not as good as those too. Plus I see mark strong from rock n rolla is in this too.
From memory wasnt there some comedy movie or another film about sherlock and holmes being made.

It's not a remake, The only thing thats similar is that they both deal with the theft of the pink panther diamond and that the detective's name is Clouseau. I was referring to the portrayal of Clouseau by Steve Martin and the type of humor in the film which is Monty Pythonesque and hard to come by these days.

I just felt, looking at the trailer like its going to be a mix of the styles of comedy in Shanghai Noon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Brothers Grimm. On top of that the Detective genre needs some new stuff instead of stupid ass CSI and forensics. I Swear benza if you quote me again I'll have to reply again and I'm supposed to be working.. icon_razz.gif

Fine I won't quote you then, I should have said relaunch not remake. The charecter and humour are still basicly the same, it's like Batman Begins to the Burton Batman movies.

Also don't tell anyone, but I'm suposed to be working too icon_razz.gif

Does anyone know when it comes out in Australia? I mean, is it the same as the US (25/12/09)? I can't wait for this film to come out, Rober Downey Junior is awesome!

I saw it on Sunday, very good. Robert Downey did a great job of playing Sherlock, and the supporting cast were all good. I'd give it 4/5 stars.

Agreed admeister - just came back from Melbourne Central watching the movie. I was a little skeptical at first when I saw the trailer for it though I thought the whole cast did a superb job. 4/5 would be my vote for the movie as well.

I've yet to see this, but the reviews I'm reading certainly don't match the trailers I've seen. I always got the impression that it's a big loud action movie, but it seems to be more than that. I may watch this while nursing a hangover on new years day.

^ I'd say it's a half half mix of 'loud action movie' and original Holmes-style deductions. Don't expect a revolutionary movie, but if you want a bit of fun then it delivers.

I enjoyed it alot, RDJ strikes again. I thought he did a great job as Holmes and Law as Watson. Liked the chemistry between the two.

As for the sequel.
Spoilers* I hear Brad Pitt may play Professor Moriarty End Spoiler
