Well, there goes the neighbourhood. MK is (hopefully)not gonna go the way of Crash Bandicoot. I guess it depends on who gets those rights. _________________

damn
Ultimate Mortal Kombat on Xbox 360 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy on PC are still some of my most played games.
MK09 would be funny... but I hope the game gets its due justice.

At least if EA buys it, it will be in better hands than if Squareenix bought it on one of their recent strange purchases. _________________

I wouldn't mind seeing Capcom get this since they want to continue to penetrate the US market more. That and it'll become more easier to perform cross overs between their titles. Maybe even a cosmetic make over will do it good. _________________

OMFG I hope Squareenix DO buy it, I've been thinking that fighting games would make the perfect base for the combat in an RPG for ages. My #1 complaint of fighting games is the story is pitifull, but making something like final fantasy but with the fighting game instead of the normal turn based combat would give the fighting game a massive story and IMO would be just awesome. Fighting games would also lend them selves perfectly to character leveling, more HP, more strength/damage, dexterity/speed, instead of spell you'd learn new moves ect.
Of course the overlap of people who like fighting games and people who like RPGs is probably WAY too small for it to ever happen though , then again it worked wonders when puzzle quest did the same thing but with puzzle games instead of fighting games.

Great idea killer, it could easily work with levelling up increasing special powers and combo's. Only problem is, in most rpg's the main character gets way over powered near the end

Square already tried their hand at the fighting genre: The Bouncer.
No thanks.

Ahh yer, good points yvo84, square probably not the best developer for the fighting part of the game, maybe they should do something like what ID did for quake 4 (one dev did multiplayer, another did single player) and collaborate with another developer so square does the RPG stuff and the other does the fighting.

To add to Shiraj's comment:
Capcom buys it and makes...
MK vs Capcom vs SNK vs Marvel Super Heroes vs DC Universe

yvo84: I'll mostly agree with you on The Bouncer, but I actually thought Dirge of Cerberus was pretty good. That said, if they were going to do a fighter-RPG, I'd definitely be hoping for a seperate developer to do the fighting system. Square could take care of the character design, story, FMVs etc. _________________

I think it's kinda ironic that the advertising on the side of this article has a giant "ELIMINATE YOUR DEBTS!!!" on it... _________________

Reminds me of Soulcalibur 3. Didn't that have this kind of mode?
