wow i was so inspired by you guys that i actually went for a run after work which i haven't for weeks! GOOD THREAD Itachi.
Growing up I was always active playing sports and gymnastics. I did gain some weight as teenage girls do, but my heaviest year was when I turned 18 and was clubbing every weekend and found the 4am kabab. But i'm in the healthy weight zone for my height. But now I'm not getting any younger (DAMN IT!) so I watch what i eat. I used to do the eat good during the week and naughty on the weekends thing but I find I feel like crap for it. My biggest vice is timtams and cheese cake. I have the biggest sweet tooth!
My metabolism has actually become faster then when i was younger and find myself starving by 10.30am when i had breakfast at 7. As for exersise I try to at least walk every day, jog every once in a while when it's not too hot outside and when i'm home alone I dance like a headless chicken!
Keep going everyone!! But make sure you're doing it the healthy way. I've had a few friends overdo it because it becomes an obssession. They beat themselves up if they haven't reach their goals in time eat too much pizza etc. It's ok to slip every once in a while. Don't beat yourself up about it and start again, just listen to your body.

What sort of multivitamins do you take man? I always seem to be a little bit lacking in the energy department. I've always wondered if they help.

Also, what's the cost of these multivitamins like? Taking them daily sounds expensive, although I'd be willing to give it a go to see if it benefits me.

Good luck to those trying to lose weight. I've always taken my weight for granted (68kgs). But then again, I took my full head of hair for granted during high school. icon_cry.gif

I take Cenovis Men's Once Daily multivitamin. I think the big tub of around 125 capsules costs ~$20 which should last you around 4 months. Not bad really.

Go Itachi!!! Its been about a year since you posted in that old losing weight thread (I forgot which). But good on you for making a committment.

Have you got a goal in mind?

Are you bored of the food yet? Eating the same stuff can be draining and take away the fun of what you're doing. There are many ways to eat healthy. Especially if you have time to cook or like to cook. Learning how to cook is not only a) healthy as heck but b) girls dig it! Just put a low fat muesli square in front of a girl and ask her to try it and watch her smile. Try some kebabs or an all vegeterian meal like your own pizza with low fat mozarella - really easy! All you gotta do is follow the instructions! Go buy Good Food Australia $4.95 thats what I do.

BTW do you like Subway - its still fast food only healthy!

Also I believe anyone can do well in the gym. The secret is to take your time!! Alot of people want the quick fix magic pill and lose 5-10kg quickly. For me the best way is to slowly work your way towards your goal!!! I've been doing weights for over 5 years and its still fun... i've been maintaining my weight for at least a year now. Similarly with cardio - ive started running again, but I've done it at my own pace. My limit previously was 5km and I couldnt do any more than that otherwise I would get really tired... but in the last two months - i decided I want to try and run the Run for the Kids Easter Fun Run in Melbourne and its 14.1km. I've added 1km every time I've gone on the tread mill and now I'm running 15km which was my goal. My new goal is to run it in 1:15 for the real run.. Im pumped - I really want to nail this - ive got six weeks to go and Ive got lots of ideas to keep the training interesting like running around the Tan, and Albert Park, and actually running at 8am on the Sunday just to really prepare for it... But anyway thats my tip - just take your time and you will get there eventually if you keep at it!

I can't even remember my other topic but hey this is a new start and i am 100% for it. I do not see myself coming off it any time soon. Arbok yeah i am getting sick of the food but the benefits of staying on it outway the negatives. Yep i also have some goals like next year i will finally be able to cosplay which is amazing since i have never done it!!! My parents said if i stick with it till next year there taking me on a cruise all expensives paid ^^. The main benefit is more confidence in yourself imo.

Week 1
I started last thursday and weighed in at 139.00

Today i weighed in at 135.5

I will keep everyone informed on how i go. There is no way in hell i will cheat ever!!!! Cheers everyone.

Wow, that's pretty good. I thought it would have been way more expensive than that.

Do you think it makes a huge difference to your energy levels?

I might go online and try and find some for myself.

On to the gym topic, when I went to the gym on Monday and yesterday, I had a MASSIVE headache whilst lifting a heavy set of weights. It just came to me whilst lifting and it hurt like hell! Felt like I was going having a stroke or something. Anyone else had this happen to them? I still have a mild headache now!

hmm - make sure you're drinking enough water when gymming (like at least 2 litres a day), otherwise weight lifting and so on can really hurt.

I've been on the wrong side of the weight I should be for over the past decade (I've basically hovered between 80-110KG for the last 8 years or so easily), so I've been fairly embarrassed about weight, but often been too lazy to do anything about it. Even when I was probably in my peak fitness (at the age of 15) I was doing the wrong exercises, so I ended up bulking up around the areas I was most sensitive about (basically stomach / chest fat). So following was 5 years of just keeping myself lightly fit, but not following any proper routine.

Now though, I've decided to get myself into shape for various reasons, and it's working wonders, feeling less tired, appetite is getting lower, and body sweat is lowering too thankfully.

Basically for exercise for the past week, been going for 20minutes run/walk/jog combination, getting my fitness levels higher to the point where I can follow a proper high intensity interval training method to lose most of the weight.

And I guess just for reference I'm about ~105KG now, looking to be less than 85 in the end.

Congrats.

My sister got her clients to keep a graph of their weight loss, just in excel or something. I did this myself also. It is a great way to keep things in perspective. There are going to be weeks when you don't lose weight, or you even put it on (gaining muscle, water weight, etc). A visual representation of where you were and where you are now can really help keep motivated during these times.

Also, I recommend taking photos. We called them 'Fat Pics'. You take a photo at the beginning, and then periodically as you lose weight. Sometimes you forget just how much your body has changed. It is nice to look back and see what you have accomplished. Plus, you can make a cool flip book later. icon_razz.gif

I signed up for gym in the middle of last year, used it a few times a week, but haven't gone for the last 4 months. During which time just binging on crap food. I really need to get healthy for when I (hopefully) go backpacking around the world in a few months

You've inspired me to get back into the swing of things. From now on, no crap food, no soft drink (maybe some alcohol won't hurt icon_wink.gif) and most importantly, steady exercise. Thanks Itachi, and good luck with it. Don't give up!

That's what was recommended to me, and what I told Itachi to do.

It's a great idea.

I've always been skinny but for the last couple of years my diet has been awful, mainly due to not being at home during meal times (Pies for breakfast, too much coffee, fast food for lunch and such) About a month ago I started a little diet as a joke and Im still going;

5 wheetbix for breakfast
2 cups of coffee (used to be anywhere up to 10)
1 salad roll for lunch
+ Drink heaps of water during the day instead of Coke/Powerade/Ice coffee.

I feel great now, Im never tired and have heaps of energy.

I am so happy i have inspired everyone ^^. I am getting sick of the food hey but really in the back of the head the advantages out way the negatives. Thats what people need to keep in the back of the mind and it will stop you from cheating imo. I also find bringing a mp3 to gym for cardio stuff it makes the time fly. Thats the one thing i hate about cardio is on the walker and always looking at the time and than it goes so slow ^^.

Trying to get away from it as fast as you can while on a treadmill sounds like a pretty good way to get some excercise. icon_razz.gif

Oooh one of these threads again! Nice work itachi, 4 kilos in one week! It will start to slow down but don't despair, its just your body adapting to the exercises, try and mix it up I spose.

Just want to begin by saying Pixel, thats one of the most inspiring posts I have ever read.

Lets see, I'm 17 now, 2 years ago I was weighing in about 120kg, I'm now about 98kg, poor diet is mainly the fault, its not that I eat a lot of junk food, just I eat alot, because I love to eat ;D. I couldn't believe my eyes one day when I got on the weghing machine, and it was in school too. Man was that the turning point of my life.

At the time I think I had some hypertension too which is now what I'm aware of it as. It started slowly, by my chest and left arm starting to hurt a bit occasionally, it then slowly moved on to aching everyday, almost every moment. I knew it was something bad, and heart related, as a result I was living in constant fear. Constant fear, my god I can still remember every day painful it was emotionally, to think I was in really bad shape I had hypertension!

I had actually played soccer all my life, but in the end I think its poor diet that owned me, I remember eating a whole box or close to of that fund raiser chocolate you get, I interally laughed when I wrote that, but anyway. The first thing I did was made water my staple drink. I did alot of reading and I heard the best thing was to drink 2 litres of water every day, increases your metabolism and what not so you can lose weight more easy. I use to hate drinking water by itself, always mixed it with cordial or drunk softdrink. But after a while you begin to get used to water and even like it. Then I started doing walks every day.

My main goal was to try and go for a jog, but honestly I couldn't last more than 30 seconds or a minute running. But gradually as I got fitter and fitter doing these walks and having short bursts of a run or jog, I eventually increased my endurance. To this day I can run for 15 minutes straight at 10 km/h, and probably run 30 mins straight going at a slightly slower pace. I haven't tried any longer because I can't be bothered to run for that long at the moment, mainly because I want to utilise my hour of excercise usefully. I heard if you do more than an hour of exercise, after the hour it becomes pointless, just do it the next day. I'll look into doing some long hour + endurance runs though.

So in the first year of my exercise, I lost about 10kg, then in my second year I lost about 8kg. Here I am now at about 98kg, I've been hovering around this mark for about 3 months, so I decided to get a gym membership like a month ago. I go 4 days a week, each session consists of 20-30 min cardo (15 min run, 15 min cycle/rowing/xtrainer w/e) sometimes, then 30 mins weight orientated.

Anyway just wanted to say life is better these days than it has been all of my life, when you excercise and get fit, you seriously get all this untapped energy you never knew you had, and most of all you achieve goals you thought you would never achieve. Hell I'm even more fit than guys that are 3/4 of my weight.

Soccer trials next week, I've lost a further 10 kilos then I did last year, where I noticed my agility and speed and increased somewhat dramatically, can't wait to see what I can achieve this year. Hoping to get in the 2nds with my mate amidst this HSC year.

God bless all those seeking to achieve their weight loss or fitness/bulking goals. icon_razz.gif

I'm to am losing more weight/toning up, but want some advice.

I esp want to tone my chest, I have my own set of weights...8kgs on each dumbell, so 16 all up. I lie down and lift the weights upwards, then do one weight and strech over my head and push it up. I also do push ups and sit ups. I normally do 50 sit ups, 50 weight sets and 20 push ups.

I'm really wanting to tone up, but wondering if there is more I can be doing. I also do walking and some running and want to lose about 15-20kgs.

Should I do alot of walking and running and lose weight first or combine them together?

building muscle and trying to lose weight don't go as well together.

If I was you, and many others recommened. Focus on losing the weight first, then focus on building the right muscles up.

Not saying its not possible with what you've got, but it would probably be alot more easier if you just signed up for a gym membership mate.

In the end it really doesn't matter what weight your doing (obviously you have to choose a weight that suits you, that isn't too easy that you feel nothing, but at the same time isn't too hard so that by the 7th repetition you can't do another), its mainly about technique.

By going to the gym and maybe getting a personal trainer for a month or so once per week, he/she can run you through all the machines/weight techniques and you'll be on your weigh. Like the 20 pushups alone for example, it needs to be done in sets just like you do your weight sets.

Going to a good gym with staff that will help you, and machines to make it more user-friendly will be a great way to tone up. Generally 2-3 sets of about 12-15 repetitions with a weight suitable for you (not too easy, yet not too hard, enough so that you feel the muscle being worked) will get you toned up in no time. And yes a combination of cardio and weight training like you said will be the best way, as you lose the body fat and your toned muscles will be more easily distinguished. Plus the cardio keeps you fit, so win win.

Before I joined the gym, I was in a similar situation as you, except I had more variety of weights, had a barbell, and a bench press as well as something to work the quads, and all in all had adjustable weights 70kg worth of plates. I would bench 20 kg at first, barbell 20kg, and could do like 40kg with my quads. Main thing is 2-3 sets of a good weight of 12-15 reps. Lets just say two 8 kilo dumbells won't do it mate, broaden it a bit more and you will be on your way. If you don't wanna go to the gym, invest in more of a vast workout set, as for cardio just go for a 20-30 min run around your neighbourhood like I did (if its safe) coupled with a 30 min 20-30 min weight sesh.

EDIT: Oh well after reading the above post that just posted before me, let me say I'm no expert at it, but I find that doing weights helps you to lose weight anyway, besides you ARE burning calories anyway. And when your body is repairing from your workout, you are actually still burning calories. When you lose that body fat, your muscles that have been developing will be distinguished I'm guessing. If I'm wrong anyone please correct me, I don't mind! ;D

If anyone is having motivation issues or doesnt want to go it alone i suggest morning bootcamps.

I worked as an instructor for nearly a year and the results were amazing. I was staggered when i saw the level of fitness the people had. There was also a really good sense of comradeship among everyone and the ones that had been attending for months were like a big family.

Sure the early mornings suck but if u r looking for a solid base of fitness and some discipline then i'd get in on it.

Not saying its not possible with what you've got, but it would probably be alot more easier if you just signed up for a gym membership mate.

I have always found gyms to be a bit of a rip off. I usually just walk every morning and evening with the dog, seems to be taking to pounds off a bit, for both me and my rather chubby mutt. But I understand some people enjoy the social side of gyms. I personally get a better conversation out of my dog then any of the people at the local gym, but thats because I am anti-social and hate my fellow man.

That, and I was kicked out for smuggling in Yogo.
