Ehh I've been skinny/underweight my entire life, weigh about 55kg at the moment. Will get to the whole gaining weight thing after the HSC, seeing your heart palpitations through your chest is not cool.

Probably the fault of my diet as well though. No breakfast (if I have time then it's 3 weetbix or so with peanut butter, strawberry jam and nutella on top heh), a sandwich and a few biscuits for lunch, normally don't finish whatever's for dinner. I don't like food.

Also props to you Itachi for sticking to the diet (as well as taking the first step). Just keep thinking of your goal and how great it'll be to finally get there icon_smile.gif and keep us updated on your progress.

I don't eat breakfast either Pas, but up until a year ago I always did. Never lost weight when I stopped. Honestly though I don't have any fat on my body. Which is cool considering I never worked for the results.

And the whole weed thing? No. I smoked the crap for 3-4 years (don't remember, fuzzy times, havn't for 2 years) and never gained or lost weight as a result. But I must admit, I did eat more.

Hello Type 2 Diabetes. That's an insane amount of sugar to be taking in per week. Cutting that down will do you a lot of health favours both now and in the future.

If you're feeling thirsty, drink water, which is what your body's actually asking for anyway. Although other drinks do seem to quench your thirst, if it doesn't provide you w/ enough water, you're going to get thirsty again pretty soon.

Also being underweight or overweight is more relative to your height. As a quick guideline, the taller you are, the heavier you should be and the shorter you are, the lighter you should be - up to a certain point. If you think back to high school and PE class, your Body Mass Index is a good indicator of how you're going weight wise (although if you do a lot of gym work and are aiming at building muscle, it's not so great because it doesn't take into account your extra muscle weight as opposed to the average muscle weight for a person of that height).

And the best way to put on weight besides adding muscle through gym work and high carb diets, is to decrease your metabolism by spacing out your meals considerably. When being used to eating during certain times, spacing everything out makes your body think that there's a famine coming, meaning that instead of burning calories at your normal metabolic rate, your body will try and keep them because it thinks food's getting scarce.

That's just a couple of things I learned over the years from uni and the brief time spent on learning about nutrition. Hope it helps a few people out there or tries to help clarify things icon_biggrin.gif

I'm about the same, have been between 55-60 kg since I was 16. Except I eat heaps, couldn't make it to work without at least a bowl of cereal. I then can't make it through the morning without a muesli bar or something, usually snack on food all day from 9.30 through to 3.30, then eat again when I get home around 5.

I do play a few sports and do distance runs for umpiring which would burn off much of what I eat, also have found it's fairly easy to get definition on my minimal size just from push ups, sit ups and a chin up bar. I go with the same theory that I have a crazy fast metabolism and so putting on weight is pretty hard.

I've always been pretty skinny. I currently weigh ~80kgs but as I'm just over 6ft tall I'm pretty happy with it's distribution.

I've been going to the gym 3 times a week for about a year or so now, mainly heavy weight sessions as I'm keen to build muscle, not lose weight. However I do do 10mins of intense cardio as a warm up before each session. I am by no means a "tank" but its nice to see the results of my hard work. icon_biggrin.gif

I've been really getting stuck into the protein shakes lately too, which seems to be speeding up my muscle gain.

It's great to see so many other fellow forumers getting into healthy living. It's very inspirational!

EDIT: Oh, and I recommend everyone should take a multivitamin supplement daily, I really found it helps my energy levels etc. And drink water. Lots, and lots of water. icon_razz.gif

I can certainly relate, I must have a really fast metabolism or something, since I've weighed 45kg for most of my life, and still do (and it's not like I'm really short or anything). No matter how much I eat or don't eat, it never changes. Most of the time I only drink water. The most I've ever weighed is about 50kg, but that was only for a couple of weeks about a year ago, not sure what caused it. Needless to say, weight loss has never been a concern, but I wish everyone who's working at it all the best. icon_smile.gif

I couldn't agree more. after choking through fuckloads of ash and smoke, mostly just blinding smoke, i can say i really really appreciated the break of fresh air when getting the tanker refilled with water.

Also, out of all the logical arguments against smoking, that was the best reason you could come up with? I mean, by your logic, drinking coke would seem silly, as you can dissolve metal in that ****.

are you taking the piss or being serious about this?
i could be falling into a trap, but are you really arguing that consuming a drink that melts fucking metal ain't gonna your health? icon_eek.gif I've had a friend who lost most of his teeth to his bingeing on a specific cheap type of cola, it ain't funny.

I'm comparing the fact that on the one hand, he finds smoking silly based on the fact that it is a product of fire (which I assume is a parallel drawn based on fire's destructive nature?) but on the other hand finds coke fine, even though it can dissolve rust and metal. I'm simply pointing out hypocrisy...

Man, you seem to be misinterpreting my posts left and right today...icon_razz.gif

I really need to loose some weight so maybe this thread will be some motivation. I’ve promised myself I would on numerous occasions, but I literally end up forgetting due to not being used to an exercising habit.

I walk a lot more now, which can only be good. Really, it’s thanks to moving. While my diet and the like was fine living with my folks, I also lived 1.5 hours away from friends and there was nothing to do nearby. Walking was always just for the sake of walking, which usually bored me, so I ended up doing bugger all. Living in Hawthorn allows me to walk around a lot more without thinking about it, especially in the city. I’m one of those guys who will not catch a single tram if out in the city; I’ll walk from one side to the other if I have to. Melbourne is pretty small.

Diet needs to improve. Base meals are hardly bad; well cooked, rarely over fattening, and plenty of variety in terms of meats, vegetables, and salads. It’s all the stuff in between. Addiction to Coke, random snacks, and living 2 minutes walking distance from a milkbar, and 6 minutes from a 24 hour service station, does not bode well.

I think I’ll nearly cut down Coke consumption entirely, and if I AM drinking it stick to a small bottle. If I buy a big bottle I just end up grinding through the whole thing, drinking for the sake of drinking. I drink a heap of water as it is, I just need to drink more and cut out all the sugars.

Walking a bit more would be a good thing too. I’m unemployed, so I might as well make the most of my time and get some fitness going.

FINGERS CROSSED.

What sort of multivitamins do you take man? I always seem to be a little bit lacking in the energy department. I've always wondered if they help.

Also, what's the cost of these multivitamins like? Taking them daily sounds expensive, although I'd be willing to give it a go to see if it benefits me.

Good luck to those trying to lose weight. I've always taken my weight for granted (68kgs). But then again, I took my full head of hair for granted during high school. icon_cry.gif

I been going to the gym for almost 2 years now. Used to weigh 110kgs, now I'm down to 83kg. I want to lose another 10kg r so of fat, then I'll really start baulking up in muscle.

I go 4 days a week. Each day I do between 1 and 2 hours of weights, then half an hour of cardio.

And for those men that are still after motivation to do it, I can give you the best motivation. For every 15kgs of weight you lose, your penis grows an inch, as there's less fat around that area.

my diet sucks, im the fussiest eater ever, but i havent put on much because my diet is so erractic. most days consist of missing breakfast, a decent lunch on weekdays, maybe lunch on the weekend and a decent dinner most nights. I just only really eat when i feel the need, I can't just eat because its the right time of the day or because im interested in food because im not.

I havent been to the gym in years but have been keen to get back I was sitting on 64 kg for years since about grade 10 and then 6 years ago i did 2 years of gym work every second day. If i missed a day i would go 2 days in a row afterwards. Also on most of those days i would eat a pizza for lunch.

There was a very noticable difference in the results i got from the gym, i put on 10kg and ended up lifting up 4 times the original free-weights i started on. I havent been back since then and I havent lost any of the weight either, so i kinda plateaued on 74 kg and im relatively happy with it. It would be nice to get some f the bulk back and it wouldnt take too long as my muscle has good memory from the 9 years of gymnastics during my school years icon_smile.gif

Im really keen to get back to the gym as soon as I can afford such a luxury. it keeps you fitter, happier and you generally feel a heap better about yourself.

The gym membership itself cost a fortune for me and because of that, I found an alternative that helped me lose weight.

But the good thing is my alternative to gym worked well for me but I guess its only because of being a female and know I can resist buying stuff and mum kicking me out of the house everyday, I do window shopping often for many hours (from 11am to 2.30pm usually) and often public transport does force me to walk more, lol.

Lately, I do skip a lot of breakfast from oversleeping and so I do find it hard to believe skipping breakfast makes you more fat from personal experience. Brunch ftw!

PS. Coke scares me. Who knows what chemical are placed in coke and since only the makers know and lack of research, I avoid drinking it. Apparently its used to remove blood stains on road or something O.O

Alright, well first of all I wish you all the VERY best in your weight loss (and in some cases weight gain). You have a challenge on your hands, but seriously, you CAN do it!

I know from personal experience what it's like to be over weight. I was always a nerd in school and was picked on alot. I never gave my parents ANY troubles (my siblings made up for that) and I was always the backbone to the family when things went wrong - making sure meals were made, house was cleaned etc so my parents didn't need that worry on top of what was going on at the time. So in turn I was always worrying about everyone else and not myself - deep down I was depressed and hated myself. I was over 100kg in school. By the time I was 23 my weight hit its peak of 130kg.

I pretended I was ok with things, when clearly I wasn't. "Nah, I dont want to go gokarting. The vibrations, they would be annoying" - inside I was crying, I was scared a) I wouldnt fit into the gokart and b) I wouldnt fit into the overalls. I wanted to gokart!! Same goes for paintball, going to the beach/pool parties etc... I didnt get my license in fear I wouldn't fit behind the steering wheel! I was affraid of doing anything because of my weight. There are seriously a MILLION experiences I missed out on from age 13 - 25 because I was overweight and affraid.

My lifestyle was disgusting. I would sit around, play games, eat alot of junk food, HUGE meals. It was terrible (and shameful looking back). I was in and out of jobs, just a complete mess. I felt disgusting inside and out every second of every day. I feel really sorry for my then partner. My weight and laziness put a massive strain on our relationship.

In late 2006 my mum passed away from cancer. I remember 2 days after I broke down crying and said "I fucking hate being fat! I HATE IT! I don't want to be fat anymore" and that was the turning point for me.

I realised my relationship had come to an end. I moved away and lived with my aunty. I had a new job. I would go for the occasional walk around the block. I would have a routine with my eating:

- breakfast would be cereal or toast
- lunch would be a sandwich or salad
- dinner would be lean beef or chicken and salad/veggies
- snacks would be fruit or a low fat muffin and I made sure I drank lots of water, no softdrinks and less coffee

I'm now 26. I weigh 86kg. I'm in a fantastic relationship. I have a good job. I have my license. I bought myself a car. I'm helping my wifey to renovate our house. I went to the beach for a swim and jumped on a trampoline for the first time in over 13yrs! (oh my god, the list goes on)

There is usually a reason why someone gains weight. I'm an emotional eater. I still eat badly when I'm happy, sad, depressed, excited. You name it! (Spoons of Nutella = evil) But it's all about self control and knowing you are better then that. And knowing why you are feeling the way you are feeling and addressing the issues, not to bottle them up or drown them in KFC.

I know I don't exercise atall. And I know I still need/want to lose some more weight and tone up AND get my fitness up. But reading everyone's posts has given me motivation icon_smile.gif

And you know, I NEVER believed the people on the weightloss commercials "If I can do it, you can too!" I always thought they were full of horse shit. But seriously, if I can do it, you can too!! icon_biggrin.gif

Oh gosh, I could keep going on and on, there's too much to share and talk about...

So live life to the fullest, have fun, smile! Sing and dance. Draw pictures, go to the beach. Play some games, play some sports. Have dinner with friends! Give your loved ones a hug, explore some rock pools, take the dog for a walk, get out there!

Oh and one of the best things ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being able to walk into a 'normal shop' like JayJays or Jeans West and buy clothes!!! Oh my god, the joy icon_biggrin.gif

I take care of myself but recently over the past year I kind've let myself go. I used to model when I was younger about 8 years ago so have been through the whole denying yourself anything fun to eat and to be honest I'm much happier where I am now at 6' tall and 82kg.

I went to the gym 3-4 times a week and broke up the rtuoines between heavy weights, light weights with high reps and cardio to avoid getting comfortable, but since I started krav maga I just stick to weights and 2-3 sessions a week with 2 KM sessions and I'm amazed at how much definition I'm getting through.

Although as I have a kid on the way the gym membership is going and I've put together a weight set for home, which I'm sure will impact on that.

As for eating I'm just careful what I eat. I avoid anything unessecary like buying full fat ice cream and butter for home and anything that could be smothered in cream or mayonaise in a restuarant and I've taken to drinking red wine at home rather than beer and that helps, but when I go out with mates I'm there for a good time, so beer it is icon_biggrin.gif

For anyone who's having trouble with losing weight/getting fit I definately recommend joining a team sport or martial art. Having a group of people used to you ebing there or relying on you helps avoid the excuses. I miss playing rugby but I just kept getting injured too many times.

And grats to all the guys who are making headway!

Lol, So your saying people aren't addicted to food? I fucking love food, I'm probably more addicted to food than pot or beer and I would hardly call getting to a an obese weight "Moderation". Moderation won't kill you when it comes to smoking either.

I used to be pretty damn fat, when I was 16, tipping the scales at 90kg, I'm down to 70k which I'm pretty happy with where I'm at now. Training a couple of times a week doing MMA, is what helped me, I found it fun, so it didn't feel like a chore like running and weights. I'm now fast, athletic and have extreme cardio.

Now my immune system is excellent, I'm rarely sick, Your body is like a machine you have to put the right fuel in it to be at its peak.

So there is my poorly structured opinion on the whole being healthy thing.

OK, this thread has convinced me to do it. I've got my gym membership, I've got my gym program. I've got the technology (Wii Fit). I've got the towel and gym book I got from a friend for Christmas. I'm gonna do it.

Gonna hit the gym every day I can, do half cardio/half weights. Any day I can't make it there, I'm gonna go for a run. Last resort if it's raining is that I do something on Wii Fit (which won't necessarily help, but it'll keep me active at least). Just you see, 80kg here I come!

I'm with you Adam. I manage to get to the gym three or four times a week, and try do stuff around a bit on the wiifit on the inbetween days. Doing about 25 minutes of cardio then 25 minutes of weights seems to work out alright (and fits into my lunch hour), and while I don't think I'm loosing tons of weight in one go, so far clothes seem to be fitting a little better, and my general strength has gone up noticibly... I can pick my partner up when she least expects it! It's great!

To all you skinny fellas that can eat all you want without consequence, don't get too comfortable. If you push it too hard it will eventually give way.

I sat on about 65kg for ages and ages, once I got pretty comfortable money wise and could afford all the convenience foods, I ate them a lot. In fact an average week would see me have Mcdonalds at least 5 times, more if it wasnt just lunch breaks. I now sit on 83kg with a rather pot belly (rest of me is still fine) and an arse, which never seemed to exist before. Plus side is I look kinda broad in the shoulders and chest, but I feel like shit lol.

My metabolism gave up after a while so I'm toning my junk habits back, might actually try exercise again at some point!

It's weird how the skinny gene thing works.

I have two mates who're brothers, both have the same lifestyle, work in semi-manual jobs, smoke, eat whatever they want and drink and don't do any other strenuous activity: one's well over 100kg at around 6' and the other does not have an ounce of fat on him icon_rolleyes.gif
