|
|
|
|
Okay ..
Been interested in alot of independent game development lately and was wondering how doable it would be to create a casual game with the palgn community ?
Aparently now is the best time to become an independent developer as the casual market has exploded with the event of the iphone, xbox live, etc.
I've been following the teaching of Mr Passafield for a while and found an article he wrote in "how to make a game in six easy steps" and said hey why not try it out ..
So if anyone would like to give it a go please place your interest here ..
Please bear in mind that I am putting the idea through as an artist.
So I bet you're all wondering what sort of roles are needed ?
Project Manager
Game Designers
Artists
Animators
Writers
Concept artists
Programmers
Sound effects people
If there is enough interest we can start talking about the type of game everyone would be interested in creating. The tools we would be using and the scale of the project. Bare in mind the smaller the project the more likelihood the game will be completed. _________________

I'd definitely be up for it but the only thing I'd be able to help with is maybe the concept and deciding upon the gameplay/art direction and stuff. I could also maybe do some of the writing for the game as well.
And so I shall already put an idea out there: A 2-d side scrolling fighter reminiscent of Double Dragon and TMNT but instead you're fluffy little animals trying to reclaim the earth from the "evil humans". I have more to go along with this but I'll just leave it at that. _________________

I could help with the art dept.
Got a few years of modelling, unwrapping, normal mapping, texturing experience, and I'm keen to do some new stuff. _________________

Good to see you join .. forgot all about the writing part ..

YES QA roles are important .. though we would need to have at least 80% of the game completed before we look into getting QA people in

Fantastic idea. I'm looking for something to obsess over
I can write...that's about it...
I can also encode video, but that's probably a little beyond what we're looking at here.
edit: I've also been reading that blog...it's a good read.

This is a great idea, I'd like to see it progress. I wish I could contribute something but I'm afraid I'd be a waste of space. I'll put my hand up for beta testing though
It will be good to see Alex modeling enthusiastically like he used to for his mods. He's got some serious skill.

I meant that I'd basically help with general concepts and the writing and such. I'm not an artist by any means. _________________

I really like this idea and wish it the best of success as I sadly don't think I'll have time to participate in anyway except for possibly QA.

I'm happy to help with writing (maybe a little bit of arty stuff too, I can't draw, but I can photoshop), this sounds like a pretty interesting idea. _________________

I'd love to help in any way possible, especially with design, artwork, writing, sound effects.. whatever needs to be done.
My suggestion would be to start with an achievable goal and work from there, too much at once and this would fall apart. But as someone who has every intention of trying to pursue a career in game development, I am very keen. _________________

Yet another writer.
Can't draw, maybe sounds... Games Designer? Beta tester? Programming might be a bit too hard with my current skills (almost none...) but hey.
Either way, I'll give it a shot. _________________

I'd allow my image or likeness to be used in the game.I'm assuming the game is based on me? _________________

You're doing it the wrong way around. Just as an example - why would you want to look for writers if you're making a Tetris clone?
Work out what you want to make first. You may find that people who have already voiced interest will lose interest, but then you'll get other people that actually want to do what you're propsing. _________________

Maybe something like Tetris...OF THE DEAD? Every line completed shoots another zombie comin' at you. Just have the writers write in the poorest English they can, in true House of the Dead fashion. "Don't come!" could make a welcome comeback.
Just my 2 cents. _________________

Maybe get an idea of what genre the game will be. Start a poll maybe? See what the community would want.

I think this stage should be seeing if the interest is there for something like this to happen, then once that's done then having a poll, and seeing the interest again.

Agreed. Let's decide on a concept first and run from there. I'd suggest checking out how Acclaim built its community focused MMO for inspiration. As it is, I'm a Diploma of Scriptwriting graduate, so yeah, my hand is up for character development (if any), dialog, etc.
Unless it is a tetris clone ... course, there's always Puzzle Quest
