Believe it or not, this story was inspired by the quote in segax's signature. It got stuck in my head early on last year, and the beginnings of a story flashed into my mind one day. About a week later I decided to write it out, but its just been sitting there, I haven't shown it to anyone else. So, today I decided I may as well go ahead and put it up here. I hope you enjoy.
Untitled by Adam S.
Chapter 1:
“Do or do not, there is no try!” yelled Yoda.
“Gee, haven’t heard that one before”, replied Luke, rolling his eyes.
It was a Saturday, and the pair were taking a quick trip on the Magtrain down to the local eMall, to get some supplies.
“Just because our parents named you Yoda doesn’t mean you have the right to just yell that at any given time you know”, said Luke.
“I know that, but you’d better learn to use the force Luke”, replied Yoda with a mischievous grin on his face.
“Look, there’s no such thing as the Force, no matter how much you want there to be”, said Luke angrily, “So just shut it”.
As the train continued to glide on, Yoda stopped fidgeting and finally became content with simply looking out of the window. “This is what I get for hanging around with my younger brother for too long”, thought Luke.
The year was 2035, and there were two words on everyone’s lips, Star Wars. Everyone and almost everything seemed to be named after a character or object from the famous films. It really got on Luke’s nerves sometimes. He hadn’t even been born when the last film was made, why did the world have so much respect for them? Luke didn’t know, but all the young children were taught from an early age to love the films (now preserved in perfect condition on the latest movie format that C3P0 studios (formerly know as Sony) had come up with. Luke had been no exception, and he could certainly appreciate them for what they were, but still…
He turned around just in time to see the name of their stop come up on one of the screens embedded in the wall. Going by Magtrain was too slow in Luke’s opinion, but teleportation was still in its final stages, and wouldn’t be available to the general public for some time. That didn’t stop some of the celebrities getting their hands on some prototype machines though, but the fun stopped when one of them didn’t come out at the other end. That pushed the public release way back.
“Let’s go”, said Luke, turning to Yoda who was still looking out of the area where a screen would normally be. He’d already pressed the button to switch it from a screen to a window earlier of course, and Luke had a brief glimpse of the sides of the skyscrapers the train was passing. Yoda turned his head to look at Luke, then nodded, stepping onto his white iRoller as Luke was doing, and flicking the power switch. The units hummed to life instantly, and began to roll forwards quickly as they squeezed the accelerators, their directional commands being recognised via the multi touch sensors installed in the main control unit, situated just below shoulder height.
“We’d better get a move on, Chewbacca will be getting hungry by now”, said Luke, “I forgot to refill the dispenser with dog food, so the computer won’t know what to do”. Luke quickly added “Dog Food” to his virtual shopping list by accessing it via the touch screen menu on the iRoller.
