AFL TIPPING 2009
A correct tip is worth 1 point, incorrect 0, in the event of a draw, if you did not tip this result, you will get 0.5, and if you have the guts to select it, 4 points. In the finals series, 2 points for a correct tip, 0 for an incorrect. In the event of someone correctly tipping all of the round's matches, an extra 2 points will be rewarded.
Again, I will be asking for a $poon fee for the pool, 5 $poons per entry.
This thread is also for general conversation. AFL related of course
C'arn West Coast!

I'll be in again this year, pretty disappointed I was leading or right at the top of the tips most of the season and just couldn't get it right over the last few rounds.
As for the season, again I'm expecting big things from the Saints, more key blokes have had a full pre-season and all up the list looks better than it has for a few years.
Hawthorn have had a fair few key players miss parts of the pre-season so we may see that affect the team early on too.
Bring on the first bounce! _________________

I'm definitely in.
I'm a Richmond supporter and am hoping that they can pick up this year. The end of last season was definitely a step in the right direction and hopefully Ben Cousins ends up paying off. _________________

^ See they got pantsed by the Indigenous All-Stars?
Good to see Footy back, even with the messy rules. Can't say I was surprised to see WCE get thrashed. _________________

Yeah, an almost full strength Collingwood vs a half strength West Coast.
I hope the Saints win it again, no team has won the preseason and the premiership so I hope that trend continues.
I'll join, please wait for me to amass the required $poons.

In like flint.
The Power will continue their yo-yo pattern of the last few years by finishing top. 12th > 2nd > 13th > 1st? Makes sense to me. _________________

I don't like you're opinion, but I gave you 3 $poons so you can pay for the tipping now.
So who do you support?
^Dances, I like your optimism. I wouldn't be surprised if Port made the 7-8, if things go their way, but I think they would need a bit of luck with other teams getting key injuries for that to happen. They should be better than last season, though.

Is anyone here going to the Bushfire appeal game tomorrow night?
I reckon it's a good move by the AFL and props to players like Matty Lloyd who weren't going to play originally.
I'm pretty keen for Saturday night, I don't care too much about winning the NAB Cup, though it did help reduce our financial loss last year. I do look forward to seeing some of the younger guys out there and seeing how some of the others guys are shaping up coming into the season. Especially big Goose. _________________

Where do you think the Saints will finish this year Cro?
They've made a few preliminary finals over the last few years I think its time for them to take the next step.

They should finish top four with the list they have. Lyon has had two season to get things going how he'd like, we've brought in a couple of handy players and have the prospect of Maguire and Baker being back. I don't like to set high expectation for this team, but given last season and the fact the team should be better this season, anything less than 4th and a PF would be disappointing season. It's hard to say I think they should take the next step, because Hawthorn and Geelong obviously were far better than us last year so it's a big gap to bridge.
But it's hard to know for sure without seeing the team actually play. Also injury plays a part, we have Riewoldt out atm, Geelong have Harley out for the first month and I've heard mentions of the whole season. Hawthorn have their own issues too.
Let's just say I have higher expectations this season than last. Also, it's been time for them to take 'the next step' for a few years hasn't it? _________________

Been "time" the past 5 years and depending on supporter base the "window" has been closed after '04 so tough luck rebuild, which I honestly don't get considering we've constantly rotated the list since Lyon & Westaway took over the club.
Ultimately we were lucky to finish 4th last year as a few sides fell over at the last hurdle and we came up against Essendon's under 22 side, expectations then I'd have been happy with 6-8th since traditionally we were slow starters and fast finishers or fast starters and slow finishers, this year I agree with Cro, Saints should finish top 4 and should challenge Geelong & Hawthorn better than we did (being asleep for 2 quarters of footy) but prospects of a GF are entirely dependent on how much we improve compared to Geelong & Hawthorn because they stamped out their impact on the competition over the past 2 years respectively.
For me, this year is about the kids, Saints haven't been one to blood kids and take on project after project so that now most have 2-3 seasons as a bottom aged kid they need to push for selection, those who can play need to step up and provide the depth we've lacked when we've lost a Ball, Hayes or a Riewoldt. And for 2010-11, Tungatalum looks like a brilliant rookie prospect, kids got some serious speed on his skinny legs and does some impressive freakish things around the goals, so if he comes on, man he'd put Milney, Rioli and Davey to shame. Needs to work on his nickname though, Choo choo is a bit gay...

Definately. You guys really missed great oppotunities for glory in 2004 (knackered Brissie side) and 2005 (Eagles are shit in Melbourne).

Are you saying that we missed chances to play those sides in GF's had we won our PFs?
2004 we hurt ourselves by falling away and having to play in Adelaide. 05 we should have won, simple as that. Was one of the teams worst performance for the season, would we have beaten the Eagles in 05? I don't know. _________________

Your douchebag fans hurt you in 2004. Seriously, I was at that prelim, and you had all the momentum until Gehrig kicked his 100th and all your stupid fans (and then our stupid fans) ran on and gave Port a chance to regroup. I honestly believe that one little moment let us win. And from there, taking on Brisbane was fine - we'd never had any problems with them over the past 4 years, it didn't matter if they were "knackered" (though I don't think they were).
As a side note, why are we closing off the competition this week? Surely we can leave it open until the real season begins. _________________
