Thanks, I'll give it a whirl.

Can't believe how quick and easy it is to get homebrew working on the Wii. Now for the fun and games of watching Nintendo try to kill it with each new update.

EDIT: Might have spoken too soon. Got HB Channel, no problems. Got USB loader on the channel, great. Now I can't install the dang file needed to make the USB loader work. Don't know if it's because I installed the HB after the lastest Wii update of not.

UPDATE: Success! I just got Sports Pack for Revolution... er, I mean Wii Sports, running off my HDD! No more disc swapping for me, yipee!

Note to dudes who want to keep a trace of homebrew on their Wiis - don't update to the new system menu 4.2. Updating is reported to delete the Homebrew Channel, BootMii, any custom IOS, and removes the BannerBomb exploit.

Pretty harsh stuff, given that basically no other system improvements are reported in the update other than homebrew removal.

I just wish I read that before. I updated thinking it would be all ok.....It kept my back-up channel installed though. Does anyone know how to get it back on or do I have to wait?

If you did update to 4.2, you backup channel will not work because it doesn't have the cIOS anymore. The only way to get everything back again is apparently with the Indiana Pwns exploit(I remember reading that it still works on 4.2, not entirely sure), but then again even with that exploit you might not be able to install homebrew channel and whatnot again....

Are you sure? I tried it out and it seemed to be working perfectly.

All your "backups" work through your backup launcher channel? That doesn't make any sense because the backup channel actually needs the cIOS to run the "backups"....or am i on a completely wrong tangent?

Well, I only tried one game, Wii Music and it worked perfectly. So I don't know....While I was updating, it finished but said it couldn't update properly and gave me an error code starting with a 30, I forgot the rest.

Then when I went to the menu, HBC was gone, but the gamma back up launcher was not. I popped in a back-up and it worked perfectly.

Not sure if it really can/how it works though, can anyone clarify?

Basically u need an exploit to run that installer(IE: the boot.dol file). So you'll have to do a bit of googling to find out what exploits still work on 4.2 as apparently bannerbomb doesn't work. As i previously mentioned, the Indiana Pwns exploit might work (But then you need a copy of Lego Indy....), or maybe the Smashstack(or whatever its called) exploit (Which uses SSBB). I have no idea as i havn't updated to 4.2.

Just a heads up that New Super Mario Bros Wii has the 4.2E update on it.* It greets you in the tiny channel window "SYSTEM UPDATE."

Since the game is released in our shores first, there's no info about it after googling. I bit the bullet and made sure everything is updated in my HBC. Ran the update and the progress bar just flew and about 5 seconds from clicking the update restarted the Wii. With everything intact and nothing updated beyond the last 4.2E update.

So if you already have 4.2E firmware, this is a safe update. But this is with my personal experience and might differ to yours. I "Safe Updated" my firmware as the posts I did above.

*Therefore, I assume the update on the disc is 4.2E.

No such luck for me. I performed the safe update, then the HBC update, then th NSMB update, 5 seconds was all it took to de-HBC icon_sad.gif

This is why nintendo and I can never be lovers, only friends!

Sweet as long as no Wii's are being bricked, my only fear is that. I am sure the homebrew channel folks will find a way to bring it back.

Source?

I played NSMBW on my sisters Wii last night and her firmware still says 4.1E after she did the so called update. She doesnt have hers connected to the net often and only updates on new game discs.

Ohh and she doesnt have the homebrew channel on her wii....

I can only assume as I only had my experience to work with. There was nothing I can google about the update in the disc online, seeing we were the first in the world to get the game. Plus with dopp doing the exact same thing as I did and still removed his HBC. It's all just from my experience. It worked for me and a few other board members, unsure what it will do for everyone else.

Update at your own risk.

Well I super keen to play NSMBW on my console so I guess I will try it over the weekend and post back here what the verdict is. If it does nerf my homebrew I won't be too upset as I only use it for import games and even then I have only bought 2. If it does screw it I will be posting in the for sale thread my NTSC games icon_smile.gif

Yeah I was super keen to play NSMBWii as well only to see the system update logo.

It's a pity that I, you and a few others, actually just use HBC to play legit physical import games using the import loader that will get no PAL releases get a bum deal about it.

I still want to play my import copy of Capcom vs Tatsunoko and still thinking of importing non PAL released titles like Excitebots.

iirc, excitebots had a PAL release, just not in Australia. So you'd just need to import a UK copy.

I'd love to import a PAL copy, but Excitebots never came out in any PAL region. As far as I've researched, it's only been released in North America.

I updated my Wii and all my homebrew seems to be working fine....except for my .WAD manager.
Does anyone know a working .WAD manager? Wanniko's 1.3 doesn't even boot and 1.5 freezes the second I tell it what IOS to use.

Seems wad manager has been killed for now (its a piracy homebrew anyway, so beware of using it Nintendo's ne T&C's can shut down your Wii and brick it forever).

Damn oh well, I just wanted to uninstall some .WADS but I guess I can't now. Can Nintendo seriously do that? Not all .WAD are piracy related....

Edit: my Backup launchers aren't working any more either. It clearly displays a resolution, but there's no picture or sound. This only happened when I updated my Wii recently. Does anyone know what to install to fix this?

Okay, so does anybody know of a good homebrew media player that can play DVDs from any region, or at least region 2?

Using Mplayer CE (with DVDX) and it is shit. Would probably work okay for playing a movie, but I'm trying to watch a TV show and can't seem to get past the first episode. There just doesn't seem to be any way to navigate to episode 2 and it is bloody frustrating...

I have tried multiple things a none works. my main problem seems to be deleting stubbed IOS's
