i took advantage of the price drop just today, and it red ringed on me before i even started playing a game, i mean thats gotta be a new record or something, 45 mins after buying it.
called microsoft, seems its a hardware failure, trying to get the store to replace it before i have to send it in, not pleased _________________

Most rumours have actually indicated that it will surface in 2011, if not 2012.
To be honest, games are reaching the point where it just costs too much to expand the artwork teams. I think we've reached a short-term plateau in required gaming power - I mean, since Crysis, nothing has actually pushed hardware further. If Crytek can get Crysis onto consoles (and I think that's likely), then I see little reason for new hardware anytime soon.
Add to that the fact that both MS and Sony make a LOSS on hardware, and you can clearly see that while they may try and streamline components to make consoles cheaper, they would stand to gain much more from a mature console. Hell, the PS2 is STILL making heaps of money, because the market is mature and there are existing engines that work well with it. Given how complex systems like the PS3 are for developers (7 SPEs take some serious headaches to unlock), it makes FAR more sense to LENGTHEN the lifespan of consoles.
So I highly doubt we'll see anything new for years. Add to that the economy, and it's clear that people are much more likely to spend on cheaper, existing systems, than on frivolous new ones.

This remains pretty much my only remaining concern with buying a 360. I don't care if they 'fix for free' its the thought of all the hassle.

Yes you can buy the 60GB HDD seperately, but it is only available in a pack for $149.95 that comes with 3 months live and some other items. JB have the 120gb for $179 so that might be a better option.
Also someone has posted over at Xbox World that the 120GB HDDs will not be sold seperately anymore, if true then *300 voice* "THAT'S MADNESS"

What does the Arcade version have/do? I'm not willing to spend any more than $300 on a 360. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

The arcade version currently comes with a 256mb memory card, wireless controller, standard AV cables, Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged 1 and Sega Superstars Tennis.
So you won't get a hard drive, headset or HD cables which come with the Pro console. Also the pro currently comes with Lego Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda and whatever other games/games other retailers are offering. _________________

Is this a case of M$ running 3rd in AUS and trying to buy 2nd place.
Still weary of upgrading to a bigger HDD 360 as my launch 360 has RROD x 2 and am yet to see that the RROD debacle has been fixed permanently.
PS3 running perfectly and you gotta love those Blu-Ray movies....Iron Man,Transformers etc

Not only EB will match the deal you can also trade in GOW2 straight away for $95.70 Credit (of coz with the 10% extra from edge card that is).
Anyway while I was picking up my GHWT (got it for $258, price matched to Big W's pre-order price) I saw a guy asking for the GAME Pro deal in EB. They allowed him to do it and straight away he traded the GOW2 in for $95.70 credit before he paid for the whole thing, so the EB chic reduced the Pro to $303.30. I was like nicely done dude.
Btw, it was at EB games in Melbourne CBD Elizabeth street store.

Well still no 360 for me.
I guess until the pro becomes no more than $300, I will not be getting one.
I only want a 360 for the few exclusive games I want to play. _________________ Welcome to the internet. Where any joke can turn into WWIII.

Dude I saw it with my own eyes... Go go go. However if you want to do it you better do it tomorrow. As the GOW2 offer ends tomorrow.
This may help;

Happy Hunting. Btw, look for a guy name David or a short haired girl. Everytime I go there they are the nicest. never get the chic with long hair over there, she makes my every visit a bloody nuisance.

Sorry, thought u were in Melb, but yea even if they won't do it, 399 for Pro w/KangFu Panda, Lego Indianna Jones & GOW2 or Fable 2 is a seriously good deal. I kinda wished I didn't rush into the $278 Arcade at Big W few month back. But then again I would have missed out the seriously good sales DSE had in July and october, in 4 month I have amassed 36 games for Xbox 360 + extra controller + 12 month Live kit (all retail copies) and probably spent less then $850(Not counting the 258 I just spent on GHWT... ). Xbox games gives you serious value for money.

More powerful CPU, You just never noticed because it was never put to good use (as far as I know).

So all that is saying is that it has a weaker CPU, but stronger video and audio chipsets. How important was core CPU speed back in that time period - enough to say that overall it is much more powerful?
Anyhow, regardless, as you say, the Mega Drive games never really put the core grunt into use, and SNES stuff always seemed to perform or feel better for multi-platform games, hence my surprise and shock at that earlier statement.

I think you're reading too much into it.
He's saying that SNES wins the battle - isn't that enough? I think Genius makes a good point. I'm sure he didn't research the history of CPU/Video/Audio chip sets before he posted. But still. _________________
