How do I get good looking fonts, like most that are used in sigs? Cause all I can do is type, and it doesn't look very good. So where do I get the really good looking fonts, or are they each letter you copy from the internet or something? Also, is there a filler tool? To fill in the white space? Also, what is Imageready?

http://www.dafont.com/ is a good site for free, good looking fonts. Other than that, if I'm after a particular font, it's often only a google search away. I'm not sure what you mean by white space, all you need to do is change the colour of the text in the area that photoshop displays once you use the type tool. _________________

Imageready is basically a lighter version of photoshop, that people can use to touch up their image, without having to use the normal photoshop's heavy resource hungry things. I hardly ever use it myself.
A filler tool? What white space? Are you referring to the checkered boxes? _________________

No, if I want to fill in white space on my picture. Just say I drew a circle, to fill the circle with colour. So with the font in my sig, did someone just download that and then type it in, and it typed in just like I am typing now? If so, that's pretty cool.

Does the magic wand let you select what parts you want, then it will only let you edit those parts?

Yeah. To make multiple selections you can hold Shift.
You can also use the other selection tools and you can do it manually.
Check that link I posted above. It's got everything you need. _________________

Hmm, did you use that magic wand tool to make that link appear? Well, I got the first CS, but it goes up to 4 doesn't it? Hopefully I get better at it and can make awesome sigs.

Practice, lots.
Realistically, you shouldn't be worried about font just yet. Play around with all the photo shop tools, as well as brushes, renders, c4ds, etc. _________________

I dare say you could practice with photoshop till the cows come home, without really learning anything useful (not denying that you're right, but for a beginner practice means little in PS).
The trick is to load up on photoshop tutorials, of all different kinds and difficulty levels. Start with text effects, and progress through to lighting techniques, etc. Do zillions of tutorials and then when you know how each filter effects the canvas, you can start delving into creating your own techniques. _________________

i initially started off with paint.net, and learnt some tips and tricks by trial and error. Then i moved on to Photoshop. You should experiment to see what each function does.
Open up a photo, and try magic wanding it, or doing other cool stuff to it. _________________

Ok, I dunno if you can do this. I have a good size pic horizontal wise, but it is too tall. Can I make the vertical smaller, without making the horizontal smaller?

The crop tool should do the job, simply select the area you want keep, then double click to resize. _________________

But I wanted to keep all of it. I guess bits of it could be cut.

I think I see what you're trying to say, but it doesn't work that way. If you remove vertical height, while the horizontal stays the same, you get a squished image which looks terrible. If you're wanting to flexibly resize an image (such as for making a sig), the crop tool is what you want. _________________

Of course you can scale it down. But detail will be lost. Go to Edit>transform>scale (if i remember correctly)
Another useful tool is extraction. It basically works like the magic wand, except it also takes into account blurs between two objects. So say if you had a photo of a person, and you only wanted to photoshop his hair out, you would use the extraction tool to get it out. To extract something, duplicate the layer and press ctrl-alt-x. _________________

http://psdtuts.com/ is a pretty good tutorial site. their tutorials are free and really well documented. they have some guides on how to use the tools in photoshop those are very helpful to someone who isn't familiar with the adobe programs.
