+1 Reggie. Call me old fashioned, but when I fork out cash for something, I want to be able to hold it in my hand.

Is it wrong that my mind read it as this?

On-topic, of course Nintendo need retail. Their core consumer are the shopping mall crowd, who wouldn't ever dream of downloading a game like Warhawk or Half Life 2. Nintendo's core audience won't be downloading games for many years to come.

I would have to agree with him as well, Its not just the storage thing, cause if it went fully digital then proper storage would be available, but for me, if i was downloading full retail games, it would slaughter my download, since id be paying a similar price, id rather just buy it on a disc then use up all my download

i mostly agree, however i get a sick satisfaction from increasing my steam games list, so for some things downloadable is good.

The thing I hate about digital distribution, other than the fact that I can't hold hold it, is that it won't be there for ever. Now people like me or Zeldamario missed out on a lot of old games, for me it was because we were only allowed one console, but over time I've built up quite a collection of retro games. Now if someone misses out on this generation of gaming, be they too young or otherwise, they will have no way of getting these games unless they buy a console allready with it.

I agree with what you’re saying, if downloadable content were ever to take place of retail games? What happens to people like me, who would probably buy a Nintendo or other product after they release a newer and better console? For example looking at all the Snes games in the Local Game Traders store, is always a treat.

Look at all the SNES games that are out there as ROMS. Just saying. Once something is on the internet it never disappears, unlike physical medium, which will eventually run out.

Absolutely. Digital Distribution is so far out of reach of most Australians. We might be able to get a few every now and then, if we buy a data block. haha.
America and other countries could sustain this with their data caps, but Australia's ISP's have a long way to go.

Steam is a little different, cause if your on Internode you download a lot of steam stuff quota free or what ever you call it.

Plus solely digital distribution will kill any possible second hand market, you wouldn't be able to sell your games and also, only ever pay what the download will charge you. so there'd be no snapping up a 2 year old game for ten bucks unless they choose to reduce it to that price.

I'de much rather only buy games via digital download.
As someone who has kept all my consoles and gaming PCs since the VideoPac/Intellivision/Atari2600 era I'm sick of the amount of room it takes up, especially when moving house!

Digital Distribution is not as far out of reach as many proclaim. Australia has a really good telecommunications system as far as our country size is considered; the problem is that the entry/exit points are immensely small. Hence our low quotas and speed limits.

All Nintendo has to do is hire server space on GameArena, Internode and whoever else and host their content there, downloads don't count from such sites so that nullifies the "I don't have enough download quota" issue.

Digital distribution is a relevant means to both purchase media and make money off of it for the big names. But irrelevant to that, I'd rather go physically buy my gear at the store any day. You take pride in your collection.

Regardless, what about the average family that comes in, with their kids wanting the latest PS3/360/Wii game? What about the DS and PSP? The retail sector does need these games. Even with the extremely small margin involved. It bring people into store, and builds a positive reputation for MS, Ninty or Sony.

Imagine giving someone a gift - a downloaded game. Yeah ,they may appreciate it, but you'd much rather give them the full retail disc/package, right?
