No way, look at the tracklist. Ultimately, they will have similar instruments, but its the songs themselves that matter most, imho. _________________

OK I think I have finally decided on Guitar Hero: World Tour. I looked at that link to youtube that melike provided and the drums do seem a lot nicer on WT than RB. Also, it seems stupid, but after reading Sinthesys' post I realised that I hadn't actually compared songs between the two games yet. When I did I found that WT had about twice the number I liked. I was always going to buy both games, just one set of instruments, but I guess it makes sence to buy the instruments for the game I like best.
It's going to be an extra ~$70, but hopefully the better instruments will be worth it in the long run.
I'm going to hold out from preordering for a little, but it seems to be between JB and BigW at this point. BigW's preorder page says that they"guarantee your very own pack of Guitar Hero World Tour at the lowest price" which could just mean that they will price match someone else, in which case I would prefer just to get it from JB.
Now hopefully I don't change my mind again. _________________

i HAD made up my mind..until i read your post..now i'm back on WT again. Who knows..i'm sure i'll change my mind again about 4 or 5 times tomorrow as well.
I just know whichever choice i make will end up being the wrong one..
I'm even contemplating importing RB2 now and just being done with it. _________________

I prefer the GHWT drums over the RB2 ones from what I've seen/read, so that was the turning point for me.
I'm just hoping that they fix up the GHWT drums + RB2 game problems, because I'd really like to import RB2 - it's got enough good songs in it to make it worthwhile, and it seems to be more party-friendly in terms of failing songs and being able to prop each other up as a band.

I'm in the same boat. I've been constantly flipping between RB and GHWT. I think I've settled on RB - even though the hardware is inferior.
The deciding factor for me is the "fun-ness" of the games. No doubt I'd have fun with GHWT, but everything I've read leads me to believe that Activison have mangled the note charts to artificially increase the challenge, and that the drum charting (not the actual hardware) in RB feels more like real drums, even though there are no cymbals.
Coupled with the incompatibility between GHWT drums and the RB game on PS3, the myriad of hardware problems (admittedly, most are easily fixable with a screw driver and tape), mountains of RB DLC, the imminent PAL release of RB2, and of course the big price difference...
That said, the GHWT hardware looks especially sweet and there are more songs on the disc.
Hopefully come Thursday morning I'll still be of the same mind and I can snag a copy of Rock Band for the Big-W price... But I could still go either way

Yep - ive ended up preordering RB - i think theres hardware problems with both kits and at least this way i'll be able to play it on ps3.
i AM looking forward to experiencing RB - if i had to choose between games only it would probably be that one. Cant wait! I really had to fight myself not to import the darn thing. _________________

I've been playing non-stop on my RB kit for a good six months and no problems on it at all (still even use the original foot pedal).
My only "thing" is that I can't invoke GH:WT star power without Activision's official kit, which on one said makes me sway towards buying that kit, but on the other makes me think "mongrels - everyone - MS, Sony, Harmonix, gamers everywhere - wants peripheral compatibility, except Activision". *sigh*
Given my wife's request to keep the reins on my spending, I'm just going to be buying GH:WT game as a standalone and I've already got RB2 being delivered from play asia.
That'll do me.
Also - pnitp GHWT might have more songs on disc, but RB2 has over 100 in total (you just have to download 20 - they're still free). Or are you talking about RB1?
We have 200 songs on RB - add the 100+ for RB2 as well - that's just awesome. _________________ GAMEparents

^Apparently, to activate star power with RB drums you hit the yellow and blue pads together. Did you try that?

MrAndyPuppy - Talking RB1, will get RB2 next year on import from the UK. I might even get the drum kit when I go to the states later this year, but I don't think I'd want the US software because of hassles getting dlc.
I'm really looking forward to playing - I used to play dtxmania (drummania for pc) using some toy midi drums. I wasn't great at it, but it was a lot of fun.

Entropay is your friend for PS DLC... and the cool thing is - you buy it on your US PSN account, download and install it, and it's accessible to all accounts, regardless of locale.
So my whole RB career is in my normal Aussie PSN account, but I get the DLC through the US one.
Thanks killjoy83 I didn't realise - I'll try that when I get a chance (just a little busy playing GOW2, Fable 2 and Fallout 3 for my next podcast episode )... _________________ GAMEparents

From what I've read, entropay access to PSN could be pulled in the future. Until they are selling PSN cards for reasonable prices online I don't think there will be a reliable, future-proof method of using the US store.
What are the prices like compared to the oz store?

Not 100% sure on Rock Band Peripherals working with GH:WT on the Wii, or even Vice-Versa.
I do know, however, Rock Band 2 on Wii allows for the GH3 Guitar to be used, as they announced it a month ago. _________________

As far as i know Entropy doesnt work anymore but you can buy psn cards off ebay - they're a little pricier but hey.
Just got Rock Band btw - setting it up now..theres a 12 month warranty on instruments which is nice. I'll probably be buying RB2 from the UK as well soon...import the songs over and sell the original _________________

I wouldn't worry about importing the instruments from overseas with the current exchange rate.
Shipping will be a killer, because a drum kit is 6kg. _________________

I'm thinking of picking up an RB2 kit when I go to the states in a few weeks. If I'm really lucky, I'll be able to pick up some second hand e-drums.
I was originally going to buy RB1 + RB2 in the states, but RB2 for PS3 should be out in the UK by the time I get back, so it'll be safer to import it. If the dollar shoots up before christmas (fingers crossed) I can grab myself some bargain games there.

I've just done it and it worked fine. I actually added a new credit card to my EP account (because my old one had expired), transferred $20 over to EP, then signed into the PSN and added funds to my wallet from the EP card and now have a balance of $20.13.
Maybe it's gonna happen soon, but it hasn't happened yet.
[edit] However, reading online, it looks like newer EP accounts may not work. _________________ GAMEparents

Just looking at that video on the last page... the RB drums look like they are shite. I'm just wondering if that padding he put on them took away some bounce and such..
Has anyone here used both, cos I still can't decide! _________________

Oh i know -trust me
I was just talking about the game only.
As for the drum kit - its not wonderful in terms of replicating a 'real' electronic kit but hey,its a toy right? Id rather get something that at l;east works.
Apparently Activision are working on a hardware fix for the drums that you can go in and order in a couple of months time..at least thats what ive been told. _________________

yeh EB were already selling it yesterday. Just picked up my copy yesterday as well. However they couldn't price match Bigw's price as their catalogue said sale starts on the 6th. I just paid for the peripherals which cost $220. Going in later and getting them to give me the game, and refund my $3!

I got RB from Big W this morning. Drums are fun, guitar will take some getting used to (the fret buttons don't feel anything like my ps2 GH guitar, and the strum feels a lot softer).
Anyone know if the free dlc is available on PSN, specifically "Still Alive" from portal?
