Ok, an update. Today was the first chance I got to get to the Post Office since my last post almost a week ago.

I was able to connect the PS3 HDD to my computer but was unable to get to the files themselves. It was worth a shot.

Posted out the PS3 today.

Added the note about my game still in the drive:

...now we wait...

Similar thing happened to me, there may have been a yellow light but I was unconcious with fright to notice. My screen went black while playing a game, and no discs would load. I lost all my Save Data but atleast my online Data was ok.

Good luck with it all.

All I needed to do was tell them the code on the back of the PlayStation 3.

Yes yes, blame me. Don't worry, I still love you.

I'd never heard of this yellow light before. It's pretty awful when this stuff happens.

The only problem I have with my PS3 is that once in a while (maybe four times since I got it a year ago) it will crash while booting, no image will display on the screen and I have to hold the power button for a very long time before it beeps three times and turns off. It's always fine after...

Still it's good to see Sony's support pays for your packaging. Microsoft makes you buy your own box. I got so sick of that I starting using the boxes they sent my 360 back in XD

^ Thanks for telling us what buttons to press so we don't have to deal with automation.

Did it seem like she was just saying they were trying to get it all happening
quicker than you were quoted? or was that sincere?

She sounded quite proffesional and straight to the point. Gotta love that.

Sounds like you'll be back and running in no time (and sooner than you thought!)

My only thing i'd be worried about is recieving a 40gb model back. But I don't think that will happen.

Keep us updated.

Got my PlayStation 3 back today!

It indeed is a different one, freshly updated firmware and with an empty hard drive.

Now I got to call Sony again because I didn't get my Dragonball Z: Burst limit disc back. icon_mad.gif

^ nah, mine isn't shiny. It's a limited edition 'chrome' trim.

The rest (like mine) have a matte silver trim.

And yes, that is one sexy looking PS3 BurnZ icon_cool.gif

didn't the chrome trims only come with the 60gb ps3? and the 40gbs came with the gun metal silver?

also did you get a dual shock controller with it?
just asking because i have a friend who also sent away a ps3, was told to just send the console ony, and he got it back with a set of cables and a dual shock controller too.. he did the honest thing and told them, and sony basically said don't worry about it icon_smile.gif

I had a large post typed out to explain my situation, but we had a power out, and I lost it all. DAMN.

Well, basically, I've got the same thing BurnZ had.
I've got a 60GB PS3, and it won't work, same as BurnZ. Green light, yellow light, blinking red light. I've even got a disk in the drive, too (Though it's COD4).

I really don't wanna send my PS3 to Sony, I've spent too long working on game saves and stuff to lose them now.
So, I've heard of a guy who does 3rd party repairs over in the US, and he's got a lot of great feedback. You send your PS3 to him, and he fixes it, and sends it back. So you can still use your hard drive and saves. Linky to forum I heard about him from.

I'm still yet to message him to see if he can do international orders, but I'd like to know if there was anyone in Australia who does this repairing.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: Sorry for digging up an old topic, better than starting a new one, right?

Hey the-fire.
Based on my experience with console break downs (both my ps3 and 360 even though I baby them) I would definitely not recommend sending it to the US. Paying the $315 for Sony to fix it sounds unreasonable, which it is in a way, but it is by far your safest method. They will give you your stuck COD4 back and a 3 month console warranty.

If you reallllllyyyyy dont want to send it to Sony ive heard of some place in Syd called Beetronix, google it (not advertising, just helping) that come to your house to repair for only like $150 and they offer warranty so maybe you should check them out. Ive read good things so far.

Losing your save games suck and ive had to deal with it a few times now. You should backup once a month when you finally get your ps3 up and running like I do.

Will you ever be returning to MGO?
Barely any familiar Aus players now. Myself and howl still go strong though. Scene expansion is the only one id say was worth the money.

Thanks for the recommendation. I don't really want to send it to Sony mostly due to the game save things, but I have gotten quite attached to my 60GB. Sentimental value, and what not.

I probably won't be coming back on MGO. I got tired of it quickly, most of the arse's of online play seem to congregate in it.

EDIT: Just checked out Beetronix, and they seem alright. I don't know if they know how to fix the YLOD.

EDIT2: Thanks for the link, that's another option, if I'm dare enough (Or my dad is) to try it. Doesn't look that tough. Just the assembly, really.

Fair enough, it is filled with jokes, which is why I just text mute everyone now.

By the way check this link, if you have somewhat of an idea of this you really should consider it.
