Wanted to say this but didn't know where, so this will do.
I just downloaded IE7 and man it sucks. Where's the classic skin option?!?
Either way I had to track down IE6 from oldversion.com. I love that site. I usually hate updates I'm tricked into getting. _________________

^ The thing that puts me off using Firefox is that it lacks the Shift+N function to open up a new identical window, which I tend to do a lot in my browsing habits. _________________

There is an extension for Firefox called mouse gestures, which allows you to do that. What it does is that when you hold down RMB and move the mouse it tracks your motion and you can gesture with it. If you go down then up, it opens a duplicate of the page in a new window.

Ok after some screwing around and trying to repair Windows XP, I now have a dual boot system. One being a fresh install and the other being an unactivated useless piece of shit.
Q: How do I remove one of the OSs? Is it as easy as altering the Boot.ini and then deleting the \WINDOWS folder? _________________

Funny, that's what I love about Firefox. I can't see why you'd want two idential windows open? _________________

^Just my surfing habits I guess. After 4 mins on the internet I have about 8 different (but mostly related) windows open.
Anyone have any ideas on the dual boot situation. Should I just go ahead changing the boot.ini? _________________

Got something against tabs in the browser?
I end up the same, I go to one site, find a bunch of links I'm interested in but might not want to follow right now, so I just middle-click on them and they open in a new tab for me.. (this is in firefox)

Ran into problems with my current upgrade!
I've installed my Q6700 and Thermaltake Maxorb, but I'm getting no display signal to my monitor.
I've checked all connections in the case, all fans (incl. GPU and CPU) turn on as does the power light. I've also tried switching my PCI-Express power cables to the other slot in case the regular one was damaged. I don't smell any burning or anything, just don't get a display.
So I'm lead to believe that unless something decided to pack it in as a coincidence, that my 750W powersupply may not be enough for the new Quad core.
I've removed my Soundblaster card and all USB devices whilst trying to boot to no avail. The currently used components are below:
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6700
Mobo: Asus P5W DH Deluxe (975X, latest BIOS)
RAM: 2x 1024Mb Corsair Twin X PC2-5300
Gfx: Inno3d GeForce 8800GTX 768Mb
DVD-ROM: Liteon DVD-ROM
DVD-RW: Sony DRU-700A
HDD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 750Gb SATA-II 7200 RPM
HDD2: 2x Seagate Barracuda 120Gb SATA 7200 RPM
Case: Antec Nine-Hundred (1x 200mm fan, 3x 120mm)
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
According to PSU calculators (often wildly inaccurate) I should only require 507W of power. Which leaves me somewhat uncertain as to the cause of my problems.
I'm going to try swapping in my old 7800GTX (whether it works at all is unknown) in an attempt to somewhat narrow down the problem. But the only changes I made between it working and not working, was the addition of the new CPU and heatsink.
Should I just buy a 1000W PSU and cross my fingers, or does anyone have any suggestions? _________________

Bummer....
I don't think your PSU is at fault, it sounds like a DOA CPU.
All i can suggest is replacing your old CPU, just to rule out if it was a randomly timed dying of your video card, mainboard or RAM.
Edit: Kick ass system btw...

Thanks Huseyadaddie, hadn't even considered it would be DOA, however, I put my old E6600 back in and its booting fine. I'm going to send the quad back to the supplier, where they will test it. If its faulty, I'll have a new one sent out, if not, then it looks like I'll need a bigger PSU _________________

life's a bitch, huh.
Did you try putting the Q6700 with the 7800GTX? if that still doesn't work then i'll really doubt its a PSU problem. _________________

Nah crest, I'm pretty over it for today
Putting in this new heatsink whilst in case was the most painful process I've undertaken whilst building PCs
The size of the thing blocked your vision of the clip that has to hook into the bracket, and bolting it down meant using fingers for most of the way as the case was too confined to get a screwdriver in.
Then the ATX 12V cable needs to plug in right underneath the heatsink, where you'd need hands of an action figure to reach. Not looking forward to doing it again when I get the next CPU
The stock intel ones are a breeze, reinstalling my E6600 with the old heatsink took 2 minutes, compared with > 30min to install the new beastly one. That said, I really fancy the look of the Maxorb, and while running the blue LEDs match my case!
So yeah, I've emailed the supplier, and hopefully I'll get it exchanged for a shiny new working model. _________________

Oh man you just brought back some horrid memories.
My last system purchase i bought a Thermaltake Beetle Fan. God that thing was a bitch to get on, blocked my vision as you said.
Took a good hour of blood, sweat and tears to get that thing on

Heheheh, things can definately get a bit cramped:
Before (E6600/stock)
My new CPU
Heatsink on
So yeah, getting fingers underneath and hookin gclips that you can't see is a bit hard. _________________

Hi. bought myself a new DVD burner to replace my old one that stopped working right (it burns at 2X instead of 16X or 48X), however, when I put it in, I could boot into windows, however when I put any CD or DVD in the drive, the system would turn off without giving windows time to shut down.
The burner is a Liteon LH 20A1S11C (SATA)
(P.S. do you know how to delete threads that you make on Palgn? cause i've just made a thread for this without realising this one was here) _________________

(Maybe just report your post and say "Please delete this")
Not enough power from the power supply maybe? Maybe its just faulty, I would just replace the DVD burner if its under 7 days to see if the new one works. Usually if you get it from a good computer store, they can test it out for you before replacing.
Also, I found that some disk for my current burner burns at 2x, but that's for Vertibrum ones only and had no trouble with Laser disks, so maybe you just had a disk that didn't like your drives? _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

I don't think it's the power supply, as I only run 1 hard drive and used the intrgrated graphics. plus, i have 350W to play with so I don't think that's the problem
(my old burned at 2X on whatever disc you threw at it. I least it actually burns them with no errors) _________________

It could be that your PSU is dying, especially if it's a dodgy brand. But I agree with the above post that a faulty burner would be the most likely cause.
