I am going to buy a computer this weekend, is there any changes i should make? Please note: only changes that are necassary, not ones that i dont really need. I really want to get crysis, so i hope these will run Crysis On high, 1280 X 800 (or wateva).
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66/4mb/1333
GPU: 512mb Gigabyte 8800GT
Motherboard: Gigabyte P-35 DS3P
HDD: Seagate 500GB SATA
DVD: Pioneer DVR-215D SATA
RAM: 2GB (not sure which brand but at least 800 speed)
Case: Antec Sonata III with 500W PSU
OS: XP Pro
Keyboard: Logitech G15 (i dont care what you think, i want this keyboard)
Mouse: Logitech G9 (i dont care what you think, i want this mouse)
Monitor: 22" ASUS VW222U
Is there anything i should upgrade? and is there much difference between RAM speeds: 800 and 1066.
Links:
GPU: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8800gt.html
Motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2747
Case: http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=15137
Keyboard: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3498&cl=us,en
Mouse: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3053&cl=us,en
Monitor: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=10&l2=89&l3=362&l4=0&model=1740&modelmenu=1
Also which is better: Crysis, COD4 and UT3
i'm thinking Crysis (for SP, i don't trust my internet for MP), then UT3 (because you can still have heaps of fun in SP modes), then COD4 (should be able to play online by then.) _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

I don't get what the craze is with Crysis. I played the MP beta and it was meh. Anyway thats just me, imo get CoD4 alot more fun MP, plus has a good SP even though its short.
Just at a glance I know that will run Crysis fine, just as long as you have the money upgrade to whatever you want, but doesn't seem necessary. _________________ xfire = andylulz

The only reason i want Crysis is because it has the best Single Player, the multiplayer doesnt look to good. I just dont want to get the game and for some stupid reason i have online problems. I can finnally use BF2 that i have had for 2 years and if the online play doesnt lag i will go for COD4 or UT3, also whats with the craze for COD4? _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

It should run crysis at 1680 x 1050 Medium/High so you shouldnt have a problem.
I personally choose COD4 over Crysis anytime, even SP. Crysis is just the graphics while COD4 is both.

I disagree, Crysis' gunplay is an experience that I've never had in any other game. Of course, CoD4 would be decent too, but Crysis definately isn't just a pretty face.
As for your PC, it'll run Crysis. But don't expect high settings at 1680x1050

I heard the 8800GT struggles for high at 1680X1050, so i will run at medium or if i want high i could go for the 1280X800, i really want crysis because you can customise your weapon easily in-game and the different nano technologies are awsome. I really liked UT2004 and UT3 looks insanse, COD4 might be better because of the realism, but the insane weapons and vehicles in UT3 have sucked me in! _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

There is a shortage of these in Australia in the moment, but the new Intel e8400 is much better than the e6750. It seems to go for about $20 more than the e6750, but its clock speed is 3GHz and it'll overclock far better than the e6750. It'd definitely help performance with Crysis.
As for RAM, 1066MHz is completely unnecessary, unless you're after some epic overclocks (the kind that you'll be needing water/phase change cooling for). 800MHz will do just fine, and if you aren't going to overclock at all then you could get 667MHz.

^ agreed, go with the higher Processor. and i have an 8800GT and it plays Crysis on very high at 1680x1050. its a bit laggy at times, so i run it at High isntead, but you should be fine with all of that. but again, get the higher processor, will make you feel alot better afterwards, and youll have less retropsective sadness of not getting the best you can etc. _________________

It costs $100 more for the e8400, tell me if u see it for less than $327. And then again the quad core Q6600 is also $327. And i am just barely getting the 8800GT, i was originally getting the 8600GT, but i thought i want to play crysis and cod4. So better core 2 duo or quad core? or is what i have enough? _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

Staticice.com.au is the best place to check for computer stuff, but it's mostly for online stores.
Here're the cheapest e8400s

Don't ever buy generic ram, most of it just breaks within a short ammount of time.

$64 for 2 X 1GB 800mhz or 1 X 2GB corsair 1066 for $200 (please note there is alot of shit they dont have in and if you want a cheaper corsair its is much worse than generic and more expensive) _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

brand>generic because brands have a lifetime warranty. Also, I see people who had generic RAM had more trouble then those who have the cheapest range of a branded one. I do advice people to get brand names. I had a generic one at home for my sis computer. Had to occasionally pull it out and put it back in for it to work again and had 54MB from a 64MB.
I found a 1x Corsair VS 1GB 667MHz for $30.
If you intending to get 2 RAM, than you will only need 667Mhz each (667 x 2 = 1334) because its of the FSB of your CPU. You could get 800Mhz if you want but then since the FSB is 1333Mhz, you just have a bit extra unneeded Mhz. _________________ "Work hard now, play even harder later"

Just get Kingston or some other brand. As long as it's not generic. Corsair generally cost an arm and a leg, and they're really only worth it for benchmarking.

i was getting kingston, but then at the last minute the guy said that they didnt have kingston in 800, only 667. I asked what the difference was between kingston and generic and he said: nothing really they are pretty much the same, he said he would go for generic. _________________ There's No Place Like 127.0.0.1

I'd check that it's not some stupid limited warranty where they just say it's your fault then nail you for more money
