Hope so for you. 100% of 360 owners I know IRL (4) have all had the RRoD, with all of them out of warranty. Sucks to be them. |
That's not possible. As was just said above, warranty is 3 years for RRoD, and the 360 is not 3 years old. Even if it occurred in that tiny window between the 360's 1 year anniversary and them implementing that new warranty, Microsoft are refunding any repair costs that were paid in that time for RRoD. _________________

Ohk, didn't know that they were refunding the others which 360's broke just after the warranty period ended. Still, what an unreliable hunk of shit. It was pretty strange though, in a space of about a month all of them had come to school pissed of as they'd just got the ring. _________________

That's why I don't buy launch systems. Except for Nintendo, because they make quality products.

That's because their hardware is old and s**t, and works easier.
Just my 2 cents. _________________

No. It's because they make quality products. I've never had a Nintendo system break on me. Hell, people video taped one being dragged behind a car, and it still worked. Some website tested how durable they were, and after dropping each one out of a 3 story window, and smashing it with a sledgehammer, the GameCube still worked. They just make a quality product.

Well Ive had my 360 since Feb and after 5 hours of constant play its still only warm to the touch and not hot at all either. I guess it just depends on where you have the 360 situated. My 360 is in a well ventilated space so enough air gets to it. Plus I put 2 strips of thin foam under the 360 to raise it from the surface. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

I just read the manufacturing date. and it says the 22/9/06.
So now I know I'm bound to get a RRoD.

I had a bit of a worrying moment playing Bioshock last night.
I was taking on a Big Daddy in front of the Fisheries in Neptune's Bounty when the game's framerate started running at an awful clip. It literally degenerated into a slideshow. There where a few other snags like the game freezing for a second or two before the plasmid preview vids popped up.
Has anyone else had this happen while playing the game? Or are these early warning signs of a faulty console? _________________

I got a framerate hitch yesterday while, and after, taking out a Big Daddy in Fort Frolic. Haven't seen it happen before, but the game had been running for several hours (largely idle time) in the lead up to it. It was a constant hitch every couple of seconds... quite odd. _________________

^ Happened to me also guys. After setting a Big Daddy on fire, I got a slideshow and was suddenly dead.
Great.

i've that problem being mentioned in a bioshock review before. I don't think its the console's fault. _________________

I think that's the same one that happened to me. Was it just after going down some stairs? I set him on fire, used some insects, then used the grenade launcher a couple of times, and it slowed down a heap.
And yeah, it lags a bit when you get a new plasmid/tonic.

Mine has hung about 20 times when getting new plasmid/tonics.
I turned it on tonight, there was an update for the game, then now every single time I have loaded my saved games it lasts about 5 mins max and sais DISC READ ERROR..... or just hangs, tried about 20 times now and simply cant play the game.
Anyone else have trouble after the update? More likely my 360 is dead........... drive death anyway.........

I got my console back on Monday night, at about 9:20pm (wtf?). The drive has been replaced, and I got a 1 month gold subscription to go with it.
The first drive I had was the Hitachi (the loudest). The replacement is the BenQ drive and it's god-like! My console no longer sounds like a shutltle launch, even with the louder games (most 360 owners would have noticed that some games make the console louder than others, I'm looking at you Gears).
If anyone is looking to buy a 360, do whatever you can to look at the disc drive inside and check that it's a BenQ (although apparently these are still quite rare). Do a google image search to see what the different ones look like, and ask the store if you can check to see which one you're getting. I can't stress enough how much of a difference having this new drive has made to the sound of the console. _________________

Yes, the new disc drivers are fantastic. I have not seen even a tiny problem since I got my new drive. In fact my 360 has been a flawless machine since I got it back. _________________ Shin J Leon.

I have the BenQ but dont notice any difference really. Maybe its the fans that make all the noise for me, cos they are damn loud.

I just got mine back from them, i had it since April last year, started the beast up last monday and buh-bow, I just rang them, gave them the serial number and posted it, got it back in a week and a half, no worries. It's reply paid, and they give you a 1 month live card. I'm one of the laziest bastards in the world and it was pretty painless. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Let's face it, those of us who've had 360's fail are only mad because the 360 is so damn good. If it didn't offer up awesome gaming experiences one after another you wouldn't care if it broke. You'd get a replacement, sell it and move on. But instead we get mad, hate it, swear at it, wish we could throw it out the window. But it's going to take more than a couple warranty claims to put me off.

Not really.
When people spend hundreds of dollars on a product, they expect it to work, not crap out on them after a year or so.
If mine were to RROD, the last thing I'd think about is how 'damn good' it is. _________________

I'm trading mine in for another unit hopefully next week and paying the difference. The new ones come with the new CPU and heatsinks so they're cooler and last a great deal longer.
I'm willing to throw down $100 for peice of mind.

Yes Cap, but personally I'd prefer a console with games I want to play that unfortunately has a semi-large possibility of killing itself, than a console that will most likely work until the day I get rid of it, yet I won't have any interest in the games available for it and won't play it. The better value option here is easy to spot. _________________
