Hate to break it to you, but it's a port of the PS2 game with 'surprise surprise!' Wii controls shoehorned into the gameplay. *sigh* They could have at least made a port of the GC game and remade the extra stuff with upgraded visuals, but no, why bother when it's so simple to just take the easy way out and make a quick buck. Arrrgh!
As much as I love the game (and I really, REALLY love the game) its weak efforts like this that shine the Wii in a very undesirable light. Of course the game will still sell bucketloads and pave the way for more quick and dirty cash ins at the expense of (potential) quality.

You're talking about just the Ada Wong story, right? Because the footage of the main game looked like the GCN graphics to me. Is there any official word on this yet? _________________

Actually it's the GCN version. With the PS2 extras added in. Have you seen the trailer? It is cube graphics but the Ada section is PS2 quality. They said they would improve this section but I would get my hopes up. _________________

I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was the PS2 game. I'd appreciate a link that proves otherwise though.
Everything I've caught a glimpse of has looked decidedly like the PS2 version. Where's the footage you guys have seen? So far, I've seen screens and that's it. Nothing in motion. _________________

Just looking at that cheesy ad alone you can tell it's the GCN version. Not sure about the Ps2 extras (I heard they would look the same as the GCN version..from Cerebral I think)....but that would be weird having two different styles of graphics in the same game.....if that ends up happening it'll probably be one of the worst ports imo as the whole game (and all it's parts/sub chapters etc) should look the same.
Edit: Taken from a hands-on at IGN.
| Quote: | | Resident Evil 4 for Wii is the GCN game with the PS2 extras. What you get is the core GCN title plus both the added content and true 16:9 widescreen mode that the PS2 iteration brought to the table. The Ada Wong missions are in and the black bars are out, in other words. And on top of that, you get to control Leon with the nunchuk and aim at enemies with pinpoint accuracy using the Wii remote. It looks better than it ever has before and it plays better, too. So if you're a Wii owner who never got around to playing this acclaimed project when it initially debuted, you are in for an absolute treat this summer when the title ships. |
All taken from the Wii version. The graphics don't actually look like GCN (could be because of the new 16:9 resolution though) quality but atleast the graphics between the Ada and Leon stuff looks the same. Maybe they are just low res screens or something. _________________

Yes it did, i edited it out 2 seconds later, sorry mate. |
Heh, thats the second time I've looked like an idiot after I've mentioned something from an article that was ninja-edited right after.
No harm done, though. _________________

Very true. Its shaping up to be a shit port by the new cash cows Capcom (note their recent press release of nothing of their future work being exclusive).
I actually detest the whole concept. Ushering in a new console by directly porting a game which appeared on 5 year old hardware to have everyone say "Yay, the fouth port and this time with a sh!tty aiming reticule".
Lift your game Capcom and everyone else needs to lift their expectations.
The Wii is being treated like a piece of crap by companies trying to cash in on its exploding success. We didn't wait for a new console just so we could play the same old games (whether a remake or just similiar) with the Wiimote .MAKE SOMETHING NEW!!!!
And note, new doesn't mean stupid like Eledees. _________________

I don't know myself, but they bloody well better!
I can't think of anything worse than the Seperate Ways campaign using the PS2 assets. _________________

What's stupid about Eledees? I've only read a couple of reviews and whatnot, but it looks pretty damn cool to me. An FPS in basic execution, but with a completely different and unique style. Definitely a game I want to pick up at some point.

I agree crestfallen. Porting an older title across to the Wii is one thing, but not doing it properly is quite another. Including PS2 extras and keeping them on the lower level graphically is just a fleeting example of LAZY developers trying to make a quick buck. To think I once thought so highly of you Capcom..
If Nintendo wants longterm success with the Wii, then they need to send all third parties on a Pull Your Thumbs Out of Your Asses remedial course.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned (I did walk 15 miles, barefoot, through the snow just to receive a thrashing with a rolled-up newspaper today), but I tend to think that maybe it'd be best to wait until we actually know how Capcom are handling this before sounding off and possibly sounding like a fool later on. Capcom are known for largely for quality work, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here; especially when you consider that they have already shown themselves to be doing fantastic stuff with the Wii _________________

From the way it's looking and what we've seen thus far on the Wii, ill keep my defensive stance at the ready for now. Capcom's PC port of Resident Evil 4 was appalling for this day and age. I strongly hope Capcom go all the way with the Wii version, but im yet to see a third party title on the Wii that hasnt given us something deep.

Im not usually one to agree with you but I agree with you 90% on this one (other 10% being Eledees) mind you EA and Ubisoft are the big culprits in treating the Wii like a PS2.5
Origional content that exposes the Wii for what it is is how you are going to make money on this console, porting the same old crap or rehashing the same old crap with better graphics just wont work. And by the way, after playing the Wii Tiger Woods port for a whiel, I can tell you it sucks BAD, the Golf on Wii Sports playes better.
On Elebits/Eledees that is exactly what I am looking for on the Wii, fun quirky games that will make use of what it offers yet not a bunch of mini games along with some other cool content.
Metroid Prime Corruption, No More Heroes, Disaster: Day of Crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R are titles I am really looking forward to, along with Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario and SSBB of course. _________________

All those shots have appalling interlacing issues, which is why they look shizen. Notice the screen-tearing from the motion around the characters. These are not representative of the final product (unless you plan on using your Wii with a TV Tuner with no de-interlacing filter) because TVs don't actually suffer from interlacing. Expect graphics very close, if not better (widescreen) to GameCube quality (which still isn't fantastic, but since the GCN version was the best technically of the three versions, it's something).
