Now i don't suffer staying on a message board with no IL-2 thread so i'm now making one. Might be futile, but i'll give it a go anyway.
I've played this game for more than two years now and show no signs of boredom. Games come and go, but IL2 has been the one to stay through everything.
Anyone else here fly IL2 or have used to play it?
Some videos my squadmates have done:

Wow suprised there's some interest
I don't know how long ago you tried it, but the game has evolved a lot during it's time.
The newest (and last) release is IL-2 1946 which includes IL-2 Forgotten Battles, Aces expansion, Pacific Fighters, Sturmoviks over manchuria and 1946. So there's a nice bit of content only for 15£

On full settings the graphics of this game are great, even on todays standards. Quite good for a 4 year old game eh?

I've played it.... In fact I've reviewed it It was a really good flight sim, and actually quite accessible compared to some. For it's age it also does a good job of pumping out some sweet pixels whilst not being too taxing on a mid spec PC.

Very good review Tristan. You managed to actually take the issues that are whined about in the game community all the time.
The weakness of the game is clearly the sounds. Or not the sounds themselves, but as they're designed for high end sound system, the average user gets little out of it.
As a side note, i'd like to point out that there has never ever been any cheating on the online servers (except for one or two exploits). 1C has kept the game code a tightly kept secret, so there's no "speed hacks" or anything.
Compare that to CoD2

Well, like we discussed yesterday, IL-2 is something that has to be approached with caution. I still want to learn how to fly, but I am taking it slowly, and once the situation is right ( and motivation is at its peak ), I will do that darn JFC 'flying-test' again. _________________

I found that that it's actually quite accessible for a flight sim. Especially as you can turn a lot of the more difficult sim-like things off and gradually implement them as you master the game.

That's true, but if your goal is "full real" that's not the route to take. Even the basic things get twisted on "easyer" settings, making "full real" soon feel even harder. Too many bad habbits to pick up.
