I know you can't change/place your tips for this round but I noticed a few absences at the Eels open training session on Anzac Day. Nathan Cayless, Nathan Hindmarsh, PJ Marsh and possibly Ian Hindmarsh all didn't train. Justin Tsoulos did train. Whether this means they will or will not play I don't know. It may help if you were thinking of placing a bet on the game.
The most enjoyable part of the session was when they had team mates running at them from 2 metres as though they were defending their try line. It was fun to see how hard they were going at each other. I wish they held these open training sessions when I can actually get to them and not when I'm working. Has anyone here been to one of these for their respective team before?

Go to the courier mail site and click on the Broncos picture to cast your vote in their greatest team for the last 20 years. Mine is...
Fullback Darren Lockyer
Winger 1 Wendell Sailor
Winger 2 Mick Hancock
Centre 1 Steve Renouf
Centre 2 Mick De Vere
Five-Eighth Wally Lewis
Halfback Alan Langer
Lock Tonie Carroll
Second Rower 1 Gorden Tallis
Second Rower 2 Peter Ryan
Hooker Kerrod Walters
Prop 1 Shane Webcke
Prop 2 Glenn Lazarus
Also a chance to win some sort of prize. I've never been to any training sessions for footy teams before bender, sounds cool though. _________________

yeah i did mine earlier this morning:
Fullback Darren Lockyer
Winger 1 Mick Hancock
Winger 2 Wendell Sailor (i think wendell did just that little be more than Lote)
Centre 1 Steve Renouf
Centre 2 Darren Smith (with gene miles a very close 3rd)
Five-Eighth Kevin Walters (i chose him because while the king would be the better player overall, he only played 50 games for the broncos)
Halfback Alan Langer
Lock Tonie Carroll (this was a hard one to pick between tonie and terry madison, both fantastic locks)
Second Rower 1 Gorden Tallis
Second Rower 2 Trevor Gillmeister
Hooker Kerrod Walters
Prop 1 Shane Webcke
Prop 2 Glenn Lazarus (It was hard to pick 2 out of the 3 best props i have ever seen play)
my bench would have been
14 Petro C
15 John Plath
16 Peter Ryan
17 Andrew Gee _________________

Mine, if there had of been 3 centre spots I would have put Smithy there and put Tonie Carroll at lock but there wasn't and Smithy is awesome because of what he did at Canterbury so I picked him ahead.
No Wendell Sailor too, looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane imo (usually reserved for Carlaw). I really hope the Roosters pick up Sailor so they can do even crapper next year lol (no arguments please, I've had to many before on it ).
Edit: Lol, Nine just accidentally put the Dogs vs Wests game on about halfway through the Brisbane game. Now I know the bloody score . _________________

Aaahhh crap . Only 2/7 this week so far. At least Big Pete has only got one though lol.
The Cowboys game was pretty awesome, way better than last weeks game. There were a few dodgy decisions but overall Clarke did a pretty good job. And Matty Bowen . F***ing freak. Lol, funny when he got penalised for backchatting that they showed on the Footy Show this morning .
Go Titans as well. Smashed Parra 38-12 or something and are playing awesome, much better than Brisbane . Definitely make it to the finals, even further if they keep playing like they are, unless they have a mid-season slump or something but hopefully not. Queensland footy is looking very pretty . Especially coming into SoO. Can't wait.
Edit: Damn, it just refreshed and Big Pete has got 3!! . Who the hell is Cheyneo, they've got perfect so far this week . _________________

Was surprised I got 3, was sure I tipped the Eels, thank god at the last minute I went back and went Titans ey.
Bloody hell to Cheyneo, freaky week to get a perfect score.

Don't really care too much for city/country. As long as the Eels players play well and don't get injured I'm not worried.

3/5 so far. I got the Sharks . Although, I haven't been home much this weekend and haven't watched any of the games. I just winged the tips for this week too, choosing at random just to see what would happen. So far so good.

2/5 so far, better than expected. Lucky I tipped the Eels!
Bloody Storm and Warriors let me down! Although both were hard done by in the context of their games. They could've easily gotten up, so could've Penrith if they forgot one factor, they suck! _________________

Yeah same and what really pissed me off was warriors were coming back but every little tap on the head the sharks layed down. Even the Warriors captain told the ref about it. pfft that really made me angry _________________

State of Origin team named for QLD, NSW just named.
QLD
1. Karmichael HUNT (Brisbane Broncos)
2. Brent TATE (Brisbane Broncos)
3. Steven BELL (Manly Sea Eagles)
4. Justin HODGES (Brisbane Broncos)
5. Greg INGLIS (Melbourne Storm)
6. Darren LOCKYER (c) (Brisbane Broncos)
7. Johnathan THURSTON (North QLD Cowboys)
8. Steve PRICE (New Zealand Warriors)
9. Cameron SMITH (Melbourne Storm)
10. Petero CIVONICEVA (Brisbane Broncos)
11. Tonie CARROLL (Brisbane Broncos)
12. Carl WEBB (North QLD Cowboys)
13. Dallas JOHNSON (Melbourne Storm)
14. Shaun BERRIGAN (Brisbane Broncos)
15. Jacob LILLYMAN (North QLD Cowboys)
16. Nate MYLES (Sydney Roosters)
17. Neville COSTIGAN (Canberra Raiders)
COACH: Mal MENINGA
No real surprises there. I'll say my two cents on this team and you feel free to as well...
Hunt, Slater or Bowen: On form, Bowen>Slater>Hunt. I think Hunt will really stand up in this game though, like he did in the ANZAC test. Bowen is really really unlucky to not make the side, but it was obvious he wouldn't.
Centres/Wings: I would have picked the same, with maybe the exclusion of Steve Bell. I say this only as I haven't seen much of him. Even though Tate has had poor form and is very on/off, there's no way i'd go into Origin without him. He can change the game in a second and even on a poor game at least has strong defence.
Halves: An idiot could have told you that Lockyer/Thurston would be picked. No one will disagree with this.
Front Rowers & Hooker: Excellent, matches the blues likely one, perhaps even bettering it.
Back Rowers & Lock: Nice, allthough my brother told me that Webb is on report and Johnson to. Carrol is a great player and proven as well.
Bench: Berrigan is a great choice and gives us a great utility and substitute for Smith. Lillyman and Costigan I'm not to sold on, but I'm sure they'll step up to the mark and get the job done. I'm a huge fan of nate Miles, I think he came of age last Origin and was one of the few QLDers who had a great game 1. Let's just hope his injury holds up.
NSW
EDIT: Fount the team
Fullback Anthony Minichiello Sydney Roosters
Wing Matt King Melbourne Storm
Centre Jamie Lyon Manly Sea Eagles
Centre Matt Cooper St George Illawarra Dragons
Wing Jarryd Hayne Parramatta Eels
Five-eighth Braith Anasta Sydney Roosters
Halfback Jarrod Mullen Newcastle Knights
Front Row Brent Kite Manly Sea Eagles
Hooker Danny Buderus © Newcastle Knights
Front Row Brett White Melbourne Storm
Second Row Nathan Hindmarsh Parramatta Eels
Second Row Willie Mason Bulldogs
Lock Andrew Ryan Bulldogs
Interchange Luke Bailey Gold Coast Titans
Interchange Steve Simpson Newcastle Knights
Interchange Anthony Tupou Sydney Roosters
Interchange Kurt Gidley Newcastle Knights
I appologise for the crappy way in which the NSWRL listed the team.
My quick thoughts as I have to go... I'm surprised at the no. 7 choice and Farrah is also very unlucky to miss out. Also, there forward pack is incredibly good! _________________

i think that the only change i would make to the QLD team would be to take bell out, push Inglis into the centers and put Slater on the wing. other than that there is nothing else i would change. Slater i feel is unlucky not to be in the team.
I'm over the whole Bowen issue, he's a great club player but i have never thought much of him as a rep player. He has played few games over the last few series with little to no impact (except for that intercept he took) and in most cases he was driven back because of his size. he would be a good impact player off the bench but he isn't versatile enough to take berrigan out of the team.
other than that I'm happy with the team

OMG, how long till Tate is out of team? I seriously do not see how he gets picked all the time, he almost lost State of Origin last year with his crappy performances. I like the bloke, but I just don't think he is up to it any more.
That's pretty much the only problem I have though with the team (except for Bowen , could have put him there instead of Costigan.)
Lillyman is a good pick IMO, really stepped up this year with the Cowboys, one of, if not the best second-rower in the game this year. Man has he put on some beef over the off-season too, he is starting to look like Charlie Webb (from far away lol).
Kick Nate Myles out actually... traitor . _________________

Apparently Webb is out and Kafusi (sp?) is in. While I'd love for Webb to play, I honostly think that Kafusi should have been in the top 17 anyway, so he'll be a great replacement.
Also a reminder for those who haven't; yes we are tipping Origin and it closes tomorrow night at around 7pm.

Excuse me? Tate was MotM last SoO match, scored a great try and stuck it to the Blues backs all night, he was also quite good in Game 2. He was only average in Game 1 as he only came back after one game.
Although he's been average this season he'll definatly lift come Origin time, just like he did for Australia.
Kafusi coming into the side is a good move IMO, we needed someone up front, although I would've dropped either Lillymen or Costigan for another prop (Ben Ross?).
IMO I think NSWs will win this game but against my better judgement I picked the Maroons, c'mon you mighty Maroons!
BTW I got 5/6 in my tipping! Finally something over 4, easy week though, everyone else do well? _________________

Lol... no, only 2/6 or some crap lol. Can't believe how bad I am going after the start I had.
Maybe it was the Tri-Nations I was thinking of with Tate, but I remember because me and my sister were going off about him. Everyone at school doesn't see how he is in the side either.
Lillyman is practically as big and strong as a prop now and is a workhorse so I still think he is a good pick. Never really seen Kaufusi play, but I've heard good things about him, still rather have Charlie their but that's too bad, but he could have been in the 17 from what I have seen instead of Costigan maybe.
My picks: Head = NSW
Heart = QLD
Pick = Heart
Anyway... QUEENSLANDER!!!
Btw, any NSWelshman want to add their two cents? _________________

I did pretty well myself and got 5/6 as well. I think it's my best score so far this year. For some reason I tipped the Roosters, oh the shame. What game did you get wrong Big Pete?
As for State Of Origin, I tipped NSW. I'm from NSW, so I think it was obligatory for me to do so. If NSW win it's a bonus for me as I would rather an Eels win and for Hindmarsh and Hayne not to get injured. I'm just not into Origin as much as when I was younger.

5/6 for me. Too bad the in the other comps i'm in, a lot of people backed the 6.
I've got QLD. I think if we can intimidate Mullen, he will crumble. I think he is going to a be a superstar. Anasta? Whadafug? He's so overrated.

QUEENSLANDER!!!!
A few quick thoughts...
What a game, both Thurston, Hunt and Price could have all claimed man of the match in my eyes.
The ref was terrible and we should have won by more. That is definatly the best I've seen a QLD team play, we allways looked dangerous and should have put at least another 2 tries on them.
Jarrod Hayne had a solid game, no where near what the commentators were making it out to be. He pases the ball along the line and 'fools Lockyer with his eyes'. Bullshit! Then Lockyer does the same to Mullen in the second and nothing is mentioned. Locky had a quiet one (still got a try!) but you got to remember about his ankle. Hayne was also a terrible kicker on many occasions.
I liked the way Anasta played in the first quarter. Normally I'm the first to bag him out, but he showed leadership and wasn't affraid to run the ball.
Tate had my heart in my mouth everytime he touched it! Like allways!
Finally, that obstruction ruling against Thursto was rubbish! Bring on game 2!
Thoughts on the game anyone? _________________

Good all-round team performance by QLD. Hunt was our best back, Thurston lead our team well, Civo and Price in particular were awesome hitting it up and Johnson and Carroll were great in putting them down. Smith also was quite good.
Tate played well for all the critics out there, made some impressive one on one tackles and made some good metres with ball in hand. Although I'd be the first to say...oh crap they're kicking to Tate here it comes! But no such error, Tate = solid.
Inglis was a mix bag while Bell and Hodges were averageeee. To be fair to Hodges though, he was playing with a poor knee. Lockyer also looked injured with his ankle, his defence was really poor.
Our debutants did well, Costo looked fired up and didn't let me down. Myles did well, again did all he could do, I knew he would, he's an Origin player. Lillymen was decent, fair inclusion. Kafusi was also decent off the bench.
Can't wait to see the returns of Webb and Thaiday though!
As for the Blues, Mini was great! Cooper was good too, defensively and on the attack. Anasta played well, ran well and his kicking game was great, sadly Hunt was on fire at the back. Buderus didn't let anyone down...and that is it!
Mullen showed some potential, Hayne was good for 60 minutes then couldn't do anything right for the rest. King played his worse game at Origin level and..Lyon who? Did absolutely nothing! White and Kite were rubbish. Mason got injured but looked dominant to begin with. Hindmarsh was dissapointing. Ryan was dissapointing too.
Tupou looked good in a few carries that is all, Simpson was decent and Bailey was good apart from his errors, K. Gidley did nothing!
GOO YOU MARROONS! F**K YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
As for the match itself, thought the first half the Blues were lucky to have their lead and I knew one QLD try would bring us back into the match, just hope we wouldn't lose our bundle like the Broncos do each game this season.
Thought the first Inglis try and Hindmarsh try were very dubious decsions and deserved a look at the video ref. Price was unlucky but at first glance I thought it was forward too, these things happen.
Haynes try was overated, good but not Origin folkore stuff. QLD tries were fairly soft though, hopefully they'll produce something memorable next time!
Cya next time guys!
1/1! Woohoo! _________________
