Tonnes of new Forza info this week, sending my own hype factor to 111 out of 10.

First off here's some info on the web integration we'll see. It seems like they've got a pretty detailed auction system going for cars and paint jobs now, which should really boost the game's online capabilities and promote a strong community.

IGN.com wrote:
Things are beginning to heat up over at the official Forza 2 website with updates coming at us from all directions. Today, Microsoft and Turn 10 unveiled a newly designed page that showcases some of the ways you can get your Forza 2 fix when you're away from your Xbox 360 this May. By logging into the site with your Live account, you'll gain access to a host of cool features to whittle away your time away from your console.

Your primary place on Forzamotorsport.net will be the "My Stats" page. As confirmed today, Forza 2 will have a Photo Mode that goes a bit further than most console games have in the past. After taking your in-game shots, you'll be able to go to store and view up to 5 of them on the Forza 2 webpage at any given time.

In addition to being able to show off your rides, you'll also be able to check your racing stats from the leaderboards, track your upcoming tournament schedule, and keep track of your, or other's, auction house status. Forzamotorsport.net will serve as a hub to browse the thousands of auctions currently going on in the game.

In addition to revealing that you'll be able to check your auction house deals on the web, Turn 10 also put out a few details on how in-depth you'll be able to go with the auctions. All of the auctions will take place using in-game money. Sorry, potential Forza 2 entrepreneurs. In addition to being able to set the price, length, and "buy now" amounts on your auction, you'll also be able to spend some of your money to make your auction one of the featured sales.

Paintjobs can be locked to their respective cars, giving designers a way to make some cash and making each car unique to its designer. Additionally, each vehicle sold will come with all of the extra purchased parts in the trunk. To top things off and make every vehicle truly unique, each ride comes will all of the car's history. That includes the total distance it has driven, time spent on the road, total winnings, lifetime repair costs, number or races it took part in, number of previous owners, amongst other things.

The new update to the site promises more info soon, which can only mean good things. Check back soon for more Forza 2 news.

The new cinematic trailer shows off some of this new stuff, mostly the auction system but a bit of the photo mode can be seen too.

Finally, here's some screens of 2 more of the game's cars, this time some more 'realistic' rides from Germany. These two are personal favourites of mine as well (went for a test drive in a GTi a couple of weeks ago, absolutely beautiful!).

2005 MkV Golf GTi

2005 (E46) BMW M3 Coupe

I think this game will truly shine in motion at its full 60fps.

Finally, Cam Shea (formerly of Hyper and now at IGN Australia) has done an interview with Dan Greenwalt, the lead designer on Forza 2. 70hrs to unlock all the career races and 100 hours to complete them all? Yes please icon_biggrin.gif

Sounds really good. I'm so glad they've added BMW to the mix. The were the only car i missed having in the original.
70-100 hours for the career sounds pretty crazy. If it really is that long i hope it's laid out better then the first one. Tracks and car types should be mixed up a bit more.

BMW was in the original, but only the M3 GTR (still an awesome car though). Good to see more Beamers though, I love 'em!

From Cam's interview, Dan answers the question about the lack of an interior camera saying something along the lines of the fact that there would be less cars in Forza 2 if they were to include an in-car camera.

I don't think that's necessarily an issue and yes I am annoyed that Forza 2 won't feature an in-car camera. Both PGR 3 and TDU (with reasonably big car counts) have managed to pull it off and since we are into the generation of consoles with loads more power, I almost expect such a view to be in racing games from now on. To me it seems like the lack of one is just an excuse.

Fair enough, each car takes a bundle of time to model accurately and whatever but if it really has to be less cars for the retail version to include the mode then why not just offer other cars in the future as downloadable content? They're probably doing something like that anyway, so you know...

In regards to all the other information, so far it has been great. I like the way they've redesigned the site for the upcoming May release and I'm sure I will be taking advantage of the site quite a bit. Good to see the European cars being announced as well. So yeah, so far everything has been good to hear and by the sounds of it we will have even more information in the near future. Especially considering that the press have had preview sessions of the game today (Friday), apparently. Should prove to be interesting when it comes time to the articles.

Oh and Spanca, why do you keep starting threads with each new piece of information? Why not just have the one Forza 2 thread? icon_confused.gif

Because I ****ing hate general threads on one topic. No other forum on the internet that I've been to has them, and its the worst part of PALGN (aside from Admeister).

This game is looking better and better by the day, except the fact that it keeps getting pushed back is one downfall, but hopefully the quality of the game when it finally comes out outshines the wait we have had to endure.

It's probably all the sound and all the physics as well that keep the in-car view from being put in. I hope they do extra tracks as well as cars for downloadable content.

Not to mention with Forza's weight customisation, every single car would need 3-4 interiors modeled for it.

Well surely not? I mean, couldn't they form a 'base' model interior design for each car that looks like the real-life counterpart and then use the power of illusion to 'adjust' it to what you allude to (and anything else that may require it)?

And would the interiors of each car have to be absolutely perfect to their real life counterparts anyway? As long as the view looks reasonably like it would in real life, and feels 'real' enough, wouldn't that be enough?

I dunno, there hasn't actually been many realistic interiors until now and even then they aren't perfect so I guess I don't actually know what I expect from interior views yet. I do think they're necessary though, if only to be 'realistic' in the sense of driving a car.

Edit: and I so could have said this post in a better way than I have, but meh.

This is another game I'll be getting when I grab a 360, even though I am incredibly bummed about no in-car view (this is the 21st century after all) I'll still grab it and just wait for Forza 3 where they should have it implemented.

Also, for some reason those cars in the screenshots look wierd, I can't put my finger on it but something to do with the colouring looks really off to me, oh well, in motion who's going to notice.

On a somewhat unrelated note, has anyone given any attention towards this Showdown thing that is happening at the moment?

Yeah, it's some show that is 'based' on what happens in Forza 2, or rather the 'You are what you race' idea behind Forza. These teams are allocated a certain number of credits (so money) which they then can spend in any way they see fit to help them in the 6 or so races that they're supposed to be participating in. Something like that anyway and yes, it is unrelated to the game's development. That said, it is supposed to be the debut place for un-seen footage of Forza 2 in motion and so forth. icon_confused.gif

^ Turns out there was more relation that I'd first been told. They showed footage in the episode shown last night:

http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=45701

Seems the S2000 model still isn't right. I know the car pretty well (been for a ride in my mate's dad's one many times) and the front bumper just isn't right there, just as it was wrong in Forza 1.

I'd still like to see gameplay footage before I decide how nice (or not so nice) the game looks though, I think.

Check out the latest 1UP show for a little Forza 2 footage and info. Can't say the graphics really impress much but they still have a few layers to go on according to Turn 10. The cars looks really nice but the backgrounds still seem a bit dull. The game play sounds like it's going to rock; just like the first ones did.
I really can't wait to see and hear more about it icon_biggrin.gif

That's a direct link to a flash video of the Forza stuff in the 1Up show (so you don't have to download 300-500mb just to see that bit).

I'm not judging graphics at this stage as I've only see crappy flash videos, and the game is incomplete. Everything else though (apart from the S2000 model) is looking great, especially the customisation this time around.

good idea Spanca, i download the 1up show every week anyway so i forget they have some segments on gametrailers icon_smile.gif

The customizations really dose sound better this time. I think i heard it'll be 1000 layers this time instead of 100. And by what they were saying about the auction house it seems you came make one paint job on a car and move it to any other car in the game.
As for the graphics what was shown is good enough but not great. It is incomplete and they still have time to spruce em up some more before release but it the end forzas more about the gameplay the the graphics for me

After watching that video all I can think about more than racing is designing those cars with uploaded pics.

Man that is going to be so awesome!

And I liked how they said that it was designed optimally for use with the 360 force feedback wheel, I was gonna grab one last week ($175) with PGR3 included but I thought I'd wait because I'm not too much of a fan of PGR3 and test drive doesn't have the force feedback option so I thought I'd wait until Forza 2 because I'd heard that it utilized the force feedback feature.
Hopefully they have some deal with Forza 2 and the wheel without a price jacking of the wheel.

For the record, Test Drive will support the wheel's Force Feedback in the next update. Or so I've been told anyway.

This game definitely requires the wheel though so I definitely plan on getting one in the near future. I must say too, seeing that 3-screen setup that Turn 10 have and Forza 2 in motion on that was absolutely awesome. If the game looks like that, the game is sexy. End of story.
