I really need to know which version of PS3 to get, U.S or Japanese. Japanese is cheaper and easier to get, but the only concern I have is that PS3 games may become region locked in the future, and then I would have to get Japanese games only, and I can't read Japanese.
To solve this possible threat, I could get a U.S one, which means that if region-locking happens in future, I will just have to buy U.S games, which are in English. However, U.S consoles are more expensive.
Which should I get? Please don't say neither. _________________

USA to be on the safe side. It means you can order all your dvds and blue rays from amazon or whatever you import from, and just buy games from here. Imo that's what i would do _________________

Good point there. I would import most of my games, but it would be ahndy to be able to get Blu-Rays from Amazon (or somewhere similar). It would be cheaper to get a Jap version, but I do feel a bit safer with a U.S one.. _________________

Id go with the US PS3, only problem is the price of a step down converter for the power source but you will get games for cheaper. Most of the games will also be out in the US before we get them here also. You should be able to pick up a US PS3 off of ebay's australian site for a pretty decent amount too. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

Yep. The power converter isn't problem, I can get one easily. The games are cheaper, which I like.
As for the last bit, I just did! I'm now the owner of a brand new U.S PS3. I got it for $700 AUD. _________________

the Japanese one will require the same converter, so it's not really an "extra" expense over his other options.
i would also go with a US console, for the already stated reason of language, should games get a region lock.
EDIT: yay for being slow! _________________

congrats not a bad price. i would assume that you got the 60gb so that is a very good price
the added bonus of the US one is that most games are released there a long time before they are released here ie. FFXII

Yeah, I got the 60GB model. I'm pretty happy about it. The only thing I don't like so much is the postage. _________________

Not really Jibbs, if the PS2 was located in the US it actually does cost a bit to send to Australia due to the weight of the item. Generally it's around US$100+ for the freight _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004

Yeah, it was a good price, but postage is $100. That's the downside. _________________

Or would I need something like this?: http://www.tortech.com.au/stepdown.html _________________

It's coming from the U.S.
I've actually read tha you don't need a power converter for the PS3. This is in the description:
* Power adaptor 110 -220V and fine to use in any country.
Listed in the box contents: Power Supply (110 - 240vV) _________________

Yes I did and I amended my post to show what you really need.
I wouldn't believe an ebay auction, but it's your choice really I was just trying to save you some potential heartache if the system fries. _________________ RIP Buddha 19/10/1952 - 03/01/2004
