based on my experiences so far i plan to buy a lot more VC games!
currently have:
- Zelda (NES)
- Sonic (MegaD)
- Bonk (TurboG; newest purchase from UK servers )
(there is a neat little glitch in this game *to do with the b-trigger on the wii-mote *)
planning on:
- Gunstar (MegaD)
- Ristar (MegaD)
- Golden Axe (MegaD)
and maybe F-Zero (never really played the series b4, i'm not much of a racing genre fan)
(and their may be more, i'll edit them in when i remember them)
*btw, all the above are based purely on reviews at this stage*
So what update did the UK get on Friday?
(i have yet to check)
I'm soo gonna buy 2000 more points tomorrow! _________________

Question for anyone who's downloaded Gunstar Heroes - does it have nasty borders?

I have this problem (using component cables on a Plasma tv) that whenever I go into a VC console game OTHER THAN A TURBOGRFX one (which works fine), my screen suddenly goes mental, and switches into a different video mode, which literally cuts off much of the picture....
For eg, Solomons Key, when the Wii 'home' menu pops up, you can see the whole screen no worries, but then, it switches into weird mode, and i get a rectangular viewing box which cuts off thhe bottom of the game.
Oddly, Bomberman 93 from TURBOGRFX does not have this issue...anyone else experienced this?

I've only downloaded Gunstar Heroes, Mario 64, and Zelda - and it seems that Zelda refuses to display?! Gunstar and M64 work fine.
Maybe it was just some teething issues, I'll try a few things, but I heard that some of the VC stuff doesn't run properly through Component cables? I figured if that was a real issue I would have heard about it on here by now, but since Zelda cracked the sads I'm wondering?
I'll take and upload a few photos of Gunstar for you David.
Edit: BAM!
Borders
Title Screen
Standing
Interlacing on first Boss
As you can see there are borders, at least on my setup on widescreen. There is also some interlacing present at times, specially visible on some fast moving objects. _________________

I think the VC has problems with widescreen settings, not component cables. I use component cables on my 4:3 TV and the games look better then perfect. It seems TG16 games use a mapped polygon technique to display the games and so they run in anamorphic fine, whereas NES games run in true low res, so will need to be re-set in the menu (ie set Wii to 480i and they should run fine).
Thanks for the pics dude, but it looks like you've got it stretched to widescreen anyway?

Yeah, I do. I should have thought of that.
I'll blame that on all the christmas beer
Sorry 'bout that - guess that doesn't really help you much.
I'll change my res in the morning and try Zelda again though, thanks. _________________

She be borderd. I think all Megadrive games are, the emulator must run like this for some reason. Still, I don't really notice it to be honest.
Keen for some SMB love, is it up yet? _________________ Shin J Leon.

Gunstar's cool. Plays a lot like Contra, but at a much faster pace. Single player, I'm finding it near impossible to clear a level, but having a friend play will make things significantly easier. _________________

I read (www.spong.com somewhere I believe) that Super Mario Brothers would be an early January release for PAL territories. (I must say it's absolutely ridiculous that we're getting delayed VC games - especially if they delay it to give us a version with borders...) _________________

just wondering if anyone knows if there is any truth in people losing their wii credit points by changing servers ?, eg. aus to eur. and vice versa.

The PAL schedule is different from the US so we'll get games at different times but we'll also get games that the US has to wait for (Donkey Kong Country).
I downloaded Toe Jam & Earl a few days ago because I had never played it before, I have absolutely no idea what's happening in the game most of the time. _________________

It seems we're getting on Friday basically what they're getting on Monday.
Also, Mario probably won't have borders since the original PAL NES games doesn't have major borders and actually runs faster then the US and Japanese versions.

hasn't happened to me yet, but aside from Bomberman, there hasn't been a reason to bother switching around too much imo. when more Turbografx games are released though, then i'll begin to worry.

haha, same here. i played it for a little while back when it was new, and it's still pretty cool, but i have no real idea what's happening. _________________

So, going back to my previous question, has anyone else had problems playing NES VC games when using Component cables? I've tried it with all three different settings, and it refuses to show.
I haven't changed to the composite cable, because I really don't want to have to arse around with the cables each time I want to play a different game. _________________

You have crashed your spaceship the Rapmaster on earth and are attempting to find all the bits. Presents are useful but you should try and get the randomizer and total bummer identified by a wizeman (the dude in the carrot suit) asap: discard and enjoy the rest. Once done its smooth sailing, stats can be earned by killing, collecting or uncovering map pieces, youl graduate from dufus to funklord in no time. The game is far better with 2 players and dont forget the secret island bottom left corner of level 1 - you'll need wings, rocket skates or an inner tube to get there!

Just grabbed Castlevania IV (of course), and the emulation is great!
It's got tiny borders, which means it's slightly underscanned full screen. It also runs at the correct speed. And with the true low res graphics and nice colour via component, it's basically perfect. Compare this to the original PAL SNES release, which had fat borders but was sped up to be slightly faster then the NTSC version.
In fact, I may do a feature on VC games - can anyone supply me with some photos of Mario 64 in action? Preferably on a 4:3 screen using component input?

None whatsoever. Got component cables, I can play DK Jr. fine at 576i.
So no Super Probotector today? What gives?

Bugger, my TV must not like having a low-res signal run through the component input then? Balls _________________

just looking to at the oflc website to see if nintendo have added any more games but the list is still the same as at the start of this forum.. a whole month ago. could be a slow couple of months on the wii shopping channel.
zelda ltp, super mario world, contra, where are you??? plus others.
i hope nintendo don't continually drag out vc releases, sparingly giving us little bits every so often.
there are so many games that would be great and sell well, especially N64.

Yeah, if only we could get the Rare N64 titles on our Wii. There are some games I just need to revisit.
