EDIT:

And so a new topic was created by someone and it was locked? Great start... Sure, it could have been a spambot, but the conversation could have sparked. And if you knew anything about PALGN and the Internet, you would know that some of the best and funniest conversations were pulled out of random topics.

Instead of removing the whole topic, just the spam links were removed & the thread was locked.

There are thousands of threads here that you could reply to.

^ haha I removed it to avoid confusion just before you posted. Next time I will put a little 'mod edit' thingy in it and leave it open. Gimme a break man, I'm new to this moderating thing icon_razz.gif

Re: Community driven format. Yes, PALGN has always been about the community. The plan is to take this community driven site a step or two further with greater involvement from the community in all facets of the site.

Re: plans for the site, I can't really say more at this point other than a completely new front end is being designed from the ground up. AFAIK all of the current content, as in threads etc, should make it across.

I'm not really at liberty to spill too many beans regarding the new look, but you can be assured that in many ways there will be a big difference between current PALGN and what is being planned. It's not going to be just a new coat of paint, like a dark theme or something.

Still, currently there is a lot of work to be done before we get to that point, and it's mostly going to be boring, behind-the-scenes stuff. Rome wasn't built in a day, and until the new format is introduced, things will continue as normal for a while at PALGN.

Wow. You do realise that those people made PALGN what it was, right? That history was made possible by them, not Roland. Why the hell wouldn't I go with them? It's not like we don't know what happened either, the entire debacle was made pretty clear towards the end.

Oh, you mean THE ENTIRE PALGN COMMUNITY?

The only people who have stayed here are users with sticks poking its dead corpse, bots and those hoping to suckhole their way into an administrative position.

The "other guy we don't really know" has shown himself to be incompetent on many occasions and has posted some material on this forum that I had/have a hard time believing it has come from an actual human it was that absurd.

One thing I find strange is that not a single piece of news or information about this new palgn or current state of the site has been posted onto the main page. How are potential readers or people that do not visit the forums going to know what is happening? All they will see is a deserted front page with no new news, no updates, and a whole lot of dead site.

If you want to see incompetent, I love the place, but check out the Australian Namco Bandai forums (formerly Atari, formerly Gamenation etc). The signup for the forums there has been broken since 2006. If the server they're using in some cobweb-ridden basement somewhere decides to die, it takes a facebook message for anyone to realise and boot it back up.

For as long as I can remember PALGN under current management has always been here. You can sign up, post and the place has functioned as it should. There's never any downtimes from bills not being paid or anything like that. There were the issues with the old server and forum code, but everything has been moved to a better server.

It wasn't management incompetence that lead us here, it was a lack of communication between staff and management.

Ramblerun wrote:

How someone personifies themselves on a forum does not define them as a person. All different types make up an online community, including manager types that you usually don't hear much from. Doesn't mean they're not real people though, with families and interests and lives.

I just did a little research and according to wikihow, the 5 keys to being a good manager are the abilities to delegate, motivate and treat everyone equally. The other two are the ability to communicate with staff and learn from mistakes. In the past, communication between management and staff here was an issue. Learning from this experience though, Roland has decided to now set up excellent communication with the current team from the get-go. So, as Reggie would say, 'all the boxes are ticked'.

Nothing on the wiki site about posting on forums or PR-type stuff. A manager usually delegates those jobs. So when he loses his team and is forced to do PR-type stuff, of course he's going to seem a bit like a fish out of water.

That's my take on it anyway, he seems like a nice bloke to me.

When there is something interesting to announce, there'll probably be some kind of update on the front page.

I'm still not convinced he isn't an absurdity spewing super drone.

What is this I don't even.
How about the fact that the site is currently undergoing major changes and will be transforming into a completely different site. Website visitors can even share fresh new ideas if they are inclined. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of PALGN.

Furianshi, that is up there with the dumbest response I have ever heard to a perfectly reasonable query. I think you should actually consider what you are saying before you spill that absolute garbage onto the page.

Yes the site has remained functional.

That being said there has been no content posted, the site is still covered in question marks, every few months there is another big 'move' towards the future.

The latest being the forum guidelines.

A list. A basic list. That got put on the back burner because of a bunch of emails - from people. or something.

You want people to take this sh*t seriously - stop bickering like an idiot and freaking well do something worth respecting.

The only way to actually prove something is to do it.

The site isn't currently undergoing anything though. Maybe I haven't been clear enough, but we are at a very early planning stage atm. Jason will be doing all of the technical work on the site by himself, and right now is a very critical time with his actual job and he's been working very long hours. So there is still going to be some time before any changes. It's a bit too early for any official announcements. Besides, the front page has been inactive for long enough now that most people who visit the site have probably learned to check the forums for what's going on.

I like the idea of involving visitors of the front page though, I'll have a word to the others and see what they think about doing something like that in the future. Cheers.

What am I supposed to be proving? That there are plans? I'm posting here unofficially, I wasn't sent out to post any announcements or anything like that. I am just personally excited about the future of PALGN.

Look - when you use terms such as 'we are' - you are speaking on behalf of the site.

If im talking about my job and use the words 'we are' im speaking from a company perspective - when i say 'i am' - i am talking from my own perspective.

If you talk from the sites perspective - expect people to argue thier points against the site - at you.

As i stated - you want people to take palgn seriously - then palgn needs to do something worth taking seriously.

I directed said comment at you - because you were more or less speaking on palgns behalf.

That is your interpretation. If you're referring to my previous post, I was actually speaking on behalf of the 4 people that will be involved in the rebuild. I couldn't just take all the credit and say that I am at the planning stage.

Mick Saige wrote:

Okay, thanks for the clarification.

Mick... It sounds like you are talking as though you think PALGN's goal is for the former community to take the site seriously. I'm not too sure if that is actually a priority. The former PALGN community now have a new home. Maybe a small few of the older members will hang around because of the history here and all the time they've invested in posting on the site, but I doubt that anything that happens here will suddenly make everyone at Rocket go, 'oh, PALGN's not too bad after all, lets all go back!'. PALGN could turn out to be a great site, offer every user trips to disneyland, or free passes to the finest hookers money can buy, where fireworks shoot out your arse and rainbows fill the sky... and most of you guys would still find something to bitch about because you're all so determined for PALGN to fail.

Nah, you guys left. You're all free to post here as well if you like, but PALGN is starting over with a new community. I mean, it's sad that it happened, there were some really decent people here, but the 30-50 regulars from the previous community aren't the only Australian gamers that are active on the internet.

So what's stopping these other people from signing up and diving into the forums as they come across the site? As you pointed out, the non-printable characters are an issue. You are absolutely right, it looks dodgy and needs to be fixed. Jason is aware of it, and obviously it won't be a problem once the site is transformed and ready to go.

In the meantime though, I thought it'd be cool to give people a bit of a heads-up. You Mick, can take it seriously, not take it seriously... it doesn't matter.

To be fair, the only thing that was edited was the ability to browse beyond one page of the blog through links.

Page 1
Page 2
Page 3
Page 4
Page 5

Those links are live on the EveryonePlays website, and have been since forever. Which, you know, is pretty good if you ask me. Roland wants you to use the website as a good summary of his involvement - and according to the website, that consists of initial copy; and then a bunch of hastily thrown together blog posts after James stepped down that thoroughly lacked the quality of copy previously on display. Oh, and he had his picture taken and a quote for an article in a newspaper.

You can't accuse him of covering up anything. You can accuse him of a lack of effort on behalf of PALGN and EveryonePlays though.

Basically from what I can gather,

PALGN community and staff is betrayed,
PALGN community and staff migrates.
Rocket Chainsaw is born.
PALGN promotes random users to administrative status,
Said users suddenly care about PALGN future.
New administrators don't actually know what the hell is happening,
Ask scattered users for ideas of the new PALGN.
Talks about the future of PALGN.
There are no plans for the future of PALGN currently.

All of my what.

Seriously, who the hell would even bother paying for the hosting/server for this place? Is it only being paid for because someone forgot it was being direct debited from their account or something?
