** OPEN LETTER **
Date: 7th May, 2012
To: PALGN Community
From: Brian, Jason, Paul and Roland
Re: PALGN Steering Committee
To All,
In the past, PALGN operated in many cases across three distinct groups: admin, editorial and moderators.
As you all know, things went terribly awry and there was a complete breakdown in communications. For example, at a really simple level, there wasn’t a central repository of contact details so that admin staff could inform moderators of various changes.
Members of the PALGN Steering Committee include Brian, Jason, Paul and Roland. The purpose of this steering committee is to provide oversight to the new PALGN. For one, the Steering Committee is looking to build a resource for the community rather than a straightforward news and reviews site. So in these new early days, no idea is a bad idea.
We would welcome any ideas / input that you may have or would like see in the new PALGN, so please email us at admin@palgn.com.au.
The Steering Committee’s first task is to post the new PALGN Forum Guidelines.
In the meantime, we look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes,
Brian, Jason, Paul and Roland _________________

Why didn't you guys just go on the forums a bit more? Post with us and get to know us? Also what do you mean by "resource for the community"? _________________

You can private message people in bulk for a start, you can also post in the moderator forum as that what it was there for. This whole statement is utter garbage and could have easily been avoided and with more than one option.
As for ideas, get rid of the diamonds for a start, this is a tough one but try not to piss on the shattered remnants of whatever goodwill this place still has, don't talk garbage to people that know better, actually take some sort of involvement in the site beyond when some form of self wankery arises like the 18+ debate, you learn how to use the forum and it's mechanics, enough with the business management class speak.
It may not seem like it but i do wish you all good luck on this venture. _________________ kill, kill, kill.....the white man. Kill the white man, kill

^ Yep. Not being able to contact people who frequent a goddamn forum is just hilarious =)
Who are Brian and Paul?
Why do the forums need new guidelines? Did the old ones break or something? _________________

Seriously, why is this place still going. It's hilarious coming here but Roland and Co, it's dead. Leave it.

Yeah sure. Please post a link to the topic and I'll jump in.
In the past PALGN, was essentially about news and reviews. We're planning to build a new site that provides more than this. _________________

Roland: Here's some stuff
Users: logic and reason
Roland: I'm a panda lol
You can't be human, you have to be some sort of intelligent bot... YOUR COMMUNITY IS TRYING TO TALK TO YOU ASSHOLE, STOP IGNORING THEM.
Stop pretending your website is fine and that nothing has happened, it's ridiculous. Also, for a website running on a brand new shiny server that was said to be the solution to this websites terrible performance it sure is slow as ass.

I'm starting to wonder if Roland ever read the forum. Perhaps he hasn't noticed the change around here. _________________

Hey guys, I'm Brian.
Paul has just returned from overseas, but he should hopefully be with us within the next few days.
I think we've drifted a bit from the main issues here. Since we're all moving forward at this point, the focus for this thread is on the future.
The main points to take from the OP are:
- The level of communication behind the scenes between staff at PALGN is now much improved.
- A new PALGN is in the works.
- New PALGN will feature more of a community focus.
- For any suggestions or requests regarding the direction of PALGN, please email admin@palgn.com.au
We have a pretty good idea of what's in store for the site, but at the same time, any suggestions from the community would be welcome. This will after all, be your PALGN.
Thanks guys

Is it stipulated somewhere on this forum that, when given some authority, you turn into a sort of lifeless borg?

Honestly Thunder.
What problem have you with the Committee. The Committee is here for you. For me. For all of us.
Once you learn to embrace the Committee - the Committee gives you what you want.
Everything this site was. Also more. Much more. The Palgn you knew will pale in comparison to what the Committee has to offer.
I love the Committee.

The Transitional body gearing to promote PALGN into a new venture needs far more than a rebranding and change in market focus, chiefly because said transitional body has also completely and systemically ostracised itself from the former community, this community will then be aggrieved and word of mouth will spread towards the negative if it hasn't already.
The transitional body needs to be two things;
- Transparent
- Robust
Transparent to instill confidence that the correct people are making correct decisions on items they are knowledgeable about.
Robust so that when individuals are then questioned (ie Roland "please link to thread and I'll comment") said committee can say "this is why, this discussion was had, these are the merits" and etc to further back up the confidence that the right people are making the right decisions and she'll be right in the end.
At present. you have a no confidence motion from the previous community. View it as trolls and completely miss the message, view it as constructive criticism that there is a viewpoint that the committee are throwing up brick walls instead of listening to the old community on a community focused venture, entirely your call to make, you just made the wrong one.

Hardly a suprise that Furianshi or Paul is on the 'committee'. He has been the only one to
a) post regularly

So how that going for you guys? Nearly two whole weeks since it was announced, and there's still no sign of a simple and easy to create guideline for the forum. Is this going to be available as some sort of novel? If it's taking more than two weeks to post new forum guidelines, then I look forward to the relaunch of PALGN in 2020.

Sorry mate, it's been a busy couple of days...
We've received a lot of feedback and most of it is concerning the actual state of the site and new features that people would like implemented. The Forum Guidelines, while important, we've learned from the feedback that they're low on the list of priorities, so have been put on the back burner for now.

While they are considered low, I still don't think that it's something to be put on hold. You need guidelines to hold the forum together so that you've got a foundation, especially when you are dealing with people, as people are pricks at the best of times. Especially more as this 'new PALGN' is to be community driven... (because the last one wasn't?)
Without knowing what is going on in the background, it seems that all that is happening is PALGN is getting a 'reboot' and being made to be more 'community driven'. But PALGN already was 100% community driven. So if you don't mind me saying this, we are all bloody confused.
EDIT:
And so a new topic was created by someone and it was locked? Great start... Sure, it could have been a spambot, but the conversation could have sparked. And if you knew anything about PALGN and the Internet, you would know that some of the best and funniest conversations were pulled out of random topics. _________________
