2) QTE's to finish off bosses. If you get them wrong, the boss regains ~1/4-1/2 health back, you have to whittle down their health again and hope you input the QTE correctly next time. It's a cheap way to lengthen a fight and it only serves to piss me off. |
The worst example of this was fucking castlevania dawn of sorrows.
Those fucking seals you had to do at the end were just... fucking horrible. _________________

DoS wasn't that bad at all - I'm pretty bad at console QTE's normally, but I played through DoS only failing to correctly input a seal a few times.
Then again I'm a bit keen for the 'Metroidvania' entries in the CV catalog, so take that with a pinch of fanboy salt. _________________

oh don't get me wrong I fucking loved the rest of the game, just those seals were fucking horrible.
I usually like QTE's if they're well done. _________________

Yeah, sorry, meant to say 'DoS seals weren't that bad at all'. I thought it was way more forgiving than most QTE style systems with its preview. _________________

It was the time limit that did me in, that and the fact that the bosses were fucking hard enough as is. I'd often only just manage to get to the point of the seal, then fuck it up and die when the boss got healed. _________________

Ah yeah, now that you mention it I got fucked by that the first time I encountered a tricky one - was being slow and precise then BAM boss was all back in my face. After that I threw caution (and accuracy) to the wind. _________________

Another bullet hell game that I need to play. This one seems to have more invincibility frames though. Cheers Storm for posting that.

Okami had a fantastic final boss fight. That's one that sticks out for me.

It also strips you of all your powers, but you get them back slowly as the fight progresses. There are also a couple stages that require you to actually do something a bit different from normal. LoZ: Link's Awakening has a similar memorable boss fight. Both are TOUGH battles. |
Personally, I love a well designed boss. Those are probably my favourite two.

Yami was the greatest boss in the history of gaming. A bold statement, I know, but one I stand by.
Not only was it hella fun to fight, each form providing new and interesting challenges, but each form represented a different evil of humanity.
First Form: Humanity's desire to take from others
Second Form: Humanity's desire to burn and destroy
Third Form: Humanity's desire to gamble with life
Fourth Form: Humanity's desire to use technology for harmful means
Final Form: The hand. Our hands. The tools needed to make humanity's desires possible
He's also a representation of technology versus nature.
It wasn't just the crazy fun fight, but also those underlying themes that completely took my breath away.

First Person Shooters. I've tried, I really have, but I just don't enjoy them.

Resident Evil 5. I don't know if everyone likes it, but all my friends do, and I just can't stand it. Controls are clunky and clumsy, and the combat is boring. _________________

Portal 2, was a good game but in my eyes no GOTY contender what so ever, only went for about 6 hours and wasn't really fun at all _________________ Solid Snake is the shit
