No. That's not what I meant.

It's the fact that he bases his decisions based on his religion.

As a high end politician, if your decision is majority based on your religeous viewpoint and stance, you shouldn't fucking be there.

ie. I'm all for some sort of gay marriage. Most politicians aren't because it's against there 'religious stance'. Well good for them, but that shouldn't hold as an answer. It's not there decision. It's the peoples. And that is whats those politician cunts forget.

I think Abbot comes off as a bit of an extremist because of his religious viewpoints, but I also think it's a bit of a stretch for people to assume it'll actually have a noticable impact of party policy.

To be fair, that's only because the Liberals would actually need to have policies in the first place. Abbott's ridiculous "we oppose this because we are the opposition and it is our duty to oppose everything the Government does" stance makes it hard to take him seriously.

And if you need an example of what happens when a policy-free opposition gets elected, just look at the pompous git who runs Victoria now.

Definitely, but saying an individual can't be a politician because they happen to be a part of a religion is just daft.

11 years of John Howard disagrees with you.

As the Rudd camp kept saying yesterday, down at Liberal HQ enough material has been recorded in the past 24 hours to make lethal attack ads for every day of the next election campaign.

Aren't most politicians against gay marriage? It's not just an Abbott thing. What other decisions has Abbott made based on his religion?

Half agree. I think the problem with letting religion get in the way when your a pollie is that you listen to minority groups like the Australian Christian Lobby too closely.

The other thing is, if a country has an official religion (Australia doesn't) then I have no problem with them making policy decisions based on that religion. If there is no official religion, then policy decision ought to be kept seperate from religios views, and more in line with what the people want.

Finally, in Australia, keep legality and religion seperate when talking about Gay marriage, IMO. Make it legal, but also include a bit that says If your religion doesn't believe in gay marriage, you don't have to let homosexuals get marries in your church/mosque/whatever.
